In this paper, semiconducting shield specimens for a DC cable os fabricated and characterized by measurement of volume resistance, tensile strength, and the coefficient of expansion to show the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the semiconducting shield. Due to the PTC phenomenon, the volume resistance at $25^{\circ}C$ increases rapidly in comparison to the volume resistance at $90^{\circ}C$. Since the compounding ration of carbon black is low, the tensile strength and density become lower and the coefficient of expansion is increased. As the general specification of the tensile strength and density is $0.8kgf/mm^2$ and 150%, respectively, the fabricated specimen in this paper has excellent mechanical characteristic.

The effect of size and volume fraction of ceramic particles with sliding velocity on the wear properties were investigated for the metal matrix composites fabricated by pressureless infiltration process. The particulate metal matrix composites exhibited about 5.5 - 6 times of excellent wear resistance compared with AC8A alloy at high sliding velocity, and as increasing the particle size and decreasing the volume fraction the wear resistance was improved. The wear resistance of metal matrix composites and AC8A alloy exhibited different aspects. Wear loss of AC8A alloy increased with sliding velocity linearly. whereas metal matrix composites indicated more wear loss than AC8A alloy at slow velocity region, however a transition point of wear loss was found at middle velocity region which show the minimum wear loss, and wear loss at high velocity region exhibited nearly same value with slow velocity region. In terms of wear mechanism, the metal matrix composites exhibited the abrasive wear at slow to high sliding velocity generally, however AC8A alloy showed abrasive wear at low sliding velocity and adhesive and melt wear at high sliding velocity.

Mechanical and property corrosion resistance of Mg-Zn-Y alloys with an atomic ratio of Zn/Y of 6.8 are investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, uniaxial tensile test and corrosion test with immersion and dynamic potentiometric tests. The alloys showed an in-situ composite microstructure consisting of ${\alpha}$-Mg and icosahedral phase (I-phase) as a strengthening phase. As the volume fraction of the I-phase increases, the yield and tensile strengths of the alloys increase while maintaining large elongation (26~30%), indicating that I-phase is effective for strengthening and forms a stable interface with surrounding ${\alpha}$-Mg matrix. The presence of I-phase having higher corrosion potential than ${\alpha}$-Mg, decreased the corrosion rate of the cast alloy up to I-phase volume fraction of 3.7%. However further increase in the volume fraction of the I-phase deteriorates the corrosion resistance due to enhanced internal galvanic corrosion cell between ${\alpha}$-Mg and I-phase.

In this paper, The experiment is performed for using reinforced building of foundation as a down conductor and a substitutional earth electrode. It is shown that earth resistance is influenced by mortar block resistance and concrete resistance more than the change of the resistance which is about steel reinforcing volume in all of the mortar block model and concrete block model.

We had designed thermally controlled superconducting switches using a general nonlinear optimized algorithm with constraints and tested its performance. Objective function was to minimize the total volume of the superconducting switch. And constraints were to have designed resistance in normal status and temperature. In order to compare performance of the optimized superconducting switch, we made another one which had geometrically different parameters but had same structure and resistance value when the superconductor part is normal status by heater. Objective function converged very rapidly. As result, volume of the adiabatic part and total volume of the switch were reduced to more than 70% and 30% respectively. Also, even if same heater power was supplied with NiCr wire heater, the optimized superconducting switch had very fast On-OFF switching performance comparing with unoptimized switch.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to get basic user guidelines of safe and efficient bag-valve-mask application on patients having abnormal pathophysiological pulmonary conditions. Methods: This study was performed by pre-qualified 35 EMS junior and senior students. Participants were instructed to compress ambulatory bag randomly about half, one-third, one-fourth within different airway resistance and pulmonary compliance. Resultant tidal volume and pulmonary wedge pressures on RespiTranier monitor were analysed in relation to pulmonary physiologic index. Results: At least over half compression of bag guaranteed minimal tidal volume regardless of pulmonary conditions. There was no increase of pulmonary wedge pressure above the level of barotrauma on half compression at any pulmonary conditions. Conclusion: Assisted ventilation with ambulatory bag on patients with pathological pulmonary conditions should be over half compressed regardless of respiratory disease entity.

In this study, the measurement of FN (ferrite volume fraction) and the solution annealing ratio at a temperature of $1130^{\circ}C$ were determined with 15A elbow fittings of shell cast SSC13, and the corrosion resistance with and without austenitizing solution annealing were investigated in comparison with AISI304. The delta ferrite phase was observed in the material due to the slow cooling effect of the shell mold casting. However, the delta ferrite phase decreased gradually with the solution annealing at a temperature of $1130^{\circ}C$. The hardness generally decreased with a heat treatment; however, its corrosion resistance was improved with the heat treatment. In addition, when a passivation treatment was applied, its corrosion ratio showed the lowest value. The pattern of general corrosion decreased due to the decrease in the delta ferrite phase with the solution annealing treatment. Consequently, it is suggested that the corrosion resistance of SSC13 elbow fittings can be improved by increasing the ratio of any solution annealing treatment used and by decreasing the ferrite phase. The relationship between the ratio of solution annealing and delta ferrite is expressed as follows: SA (solution annealing ratio,%) = 98 - FN (ferrite volume fraction, %).

Concrete incorporating high volume blast-furnace slag placed in cold weather regions might be in danger of initial frost damage because dependently on the mix proportions, the setting and the hardening would be remarkably delayed. Therefore, this study investigated to effect of the degree of frost on the strength development and the resistance to freezing and thawing of the concrete incorporating blast-furnace slag when being subjected to freeze at early age. As the experimental results, the concrete incorporating blast-furnace slag attacked by initial frost damage showed the remarkable reduction of both the compressive strength development and the resistance to freezing and thawing. Especially, the resistance to freezing-thawing of the concrete incorporating high volume blast-furnace slag became much lower than that of the normal concrete.

IEC standards do not require to limit the earthing resistance of the concrete-embedded foundation earthing electrode which is installed to a specific value. However, in Korea the value of $5{\Omega}$ and below applies to the earthing resistance for a domestic customer whose receiving voltage is 22.9kV. This paper calculates the minimum area and volume of the concrete-embedded foundation earthing electrode in order to obtain a specific value of the earthing resistance when the electrode of the building's lightning protection system and that of its power system are interconnected. It also suggested the most appropriate method of installing the foundation earthing electrode, taking the electric characteristics of concrete into account.
In this study, we processed two procedures of application test of filler for fire-resistance utility that are new application methods of aerated concrete and properties test of aerated concrete according to mixing ratio because we investigated the better use of aerated concrete as filler for fireproof safety and we proposed basic data about standardization of mixing of aerated concrete. We measured flow and volume change of aerated concrete. And if its volume doesn't change, we added measuring unit weight and compressive strength. To test application of aerated concrete as filler for fireproof safety, we filled up aerated concrete to fireproof safety according to suitable mixing ratio. Then we measured maximum temperature of inner part of fireproof safety in accordance with the standard test of fireproof. According to the results, aerated concrete as filler for fireproof safety could be possibly used. So when we make aerated concrete, we should consider using an adding agent as well as a foaming agent.
