This paper presents the primary conceptual design results of Smart Harbor. As the world trade becomes active, so container cargo volume is increasing constantly. Since the coming of very large container ships, It's necessary that a harbor handles many containers more than before. Therefore, we designed the new concept of SMART HARBOR which overcomes land site problem for port expansion and geographic constraints of very large container ships in harbor.
The major goal of this research is to develop an optimal route search algorithm for an intelligent route guidance system, one sub-area of ITS. ITS stands for intelligent Transportation System. ITS offers a fundamental solution to various issues concerning transportation and it will eventually help comfortable and swift moves of drivers by receiving and transmitting information on humans, roads and automobiles. Genetic algorithm, and fuzzy logic are utilized in order to implement the proposed algorithm. Using genetic algorithm, the proposed algorithm searches shortest routes in terms of travel time in consideration of stochastic traffic volume, diverse turn constraints, etc. Then using fuzzy logic, it selects driver-preference optimal route among the candidate routes searched by GA, taking into account various driver's preferences such as difficulty degree of driving and surrounding scenery of road, etc. In order to evaluate this algorithm, a virtual road-traffic network DB with various road attributes is simulated, where the suggested algorithm promptly produces the best route for a driver with reference to his or her preferences.

There has been a tremendous need for dual homing cell switch assignment problems where calling volume and patterns are different at different times of the day. This problem of assigning cells to switches in the planning phase of mobile networks consists in finding an assignment plan which minimizes the communication costs taking into account some constraints such as capacity of switches. This optimization problem is known to be difficult to solve, such that heuristic methods are usually utilized to find good solutions in a reasonable amount of time. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary approach, based on the genetic algorithm paradigm, for solving this problem. Simulation results confirm the appropriateness and effectiveness of this approach which yields solutions of good quality.
In this paper, the polarization of piezoelectric materials is considered to improve actuation since the piezoelectric polarization has influences on the performance of the actuator. The topology design of compliant mechanism can be formulated as an optimization problem of material distribution in a fixed design domain and continuous approximation of material distribution (CAMD) method has demonstrated its effectiveness to prevent the numerical instabilities in topology optimization. The optimization problem is formulated to maximize the mean transduction ratio subject to the total volume constraints and solved using a sequential linear programming algorithm. The effect of CAMD and the performance improvement of actuator are confirmed through Moonie actuator and PZT suspension design.
An integrated heuristic approach based on genetic algorithms (GAs) is proposed for solving the container selection and loading problems. The GA for container selection solves a two-dimensional knapsack problem, determining a set of containers to minimize the transportation or shipment cost. The GA for container loading solves for the weighted coefficients in the evaluation functions that are applied in selecting loading positions and boxes to be loaded, so that the volume utilization is maximized. Several loading constraints such as box orientation, stack priority, stack stability, and container stability are also incorporated into the algorithm. In general, our computational results based on randomly generated data and problems from the literature suggest that the proposed heuristic provides a good solution in a reasonable amount of computational time.
In this paper, we propose the high-risk group detection model for patients with high blood pressure using case-based reasoning. The proposed model can be applied for public health maintenance organizations to effectively manage knowledge related to high blood pressure and efficiently allocate limited health care resources. Especially, the focus is on the development of the model that can handle constraints such as managing large volume of data, enabling the automatic learning to adapt to external environmental changes and operating the system on a real-time basis. Using real data collected from local public health centers, the optimal high-risk group detection model was derived incorporating optimal parameter sets. The results of the performance test for the model using test data show that the prediction accuracy of the proposed model is two times better than the natural risk of high blood pressure.
One of various main jobs in the design of a new tactical vehicle is to develop the lightest chassis parts satisfying the required durability target. In this study, the analytic methods to reduce the size and weight of a lower control arm and chassis frame of a Korean light tactical vehicle are presented. Topology optimization by ATOM (Abaqus Topology Optimization Module) is applied to find the optimal design of the suspension arm with volume and displacement constraints satisfied. In case of chassis frame, the light-weight optimization process associated with design sensitivity method is developed using Isight and ABAQUS. By these analytic methods we can provide design engineers with guides to where and how much the design changes should be made.
Recovery of end-of-life (EOL) products is an environmentally and economically sound way to achieve many of the goals of sustainable development. Many product recovery systems are dependent upon destructive disassembly such as shredding, which undesirably causes a large volume of shredder dust and makes parts reuse impossible. Although non-destructive disassembly has been considered as an alternative for solving the problems, the classification of disassembled items has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper, we propose a model that mathematically optimizes the disassembly and classification of EOL products. Based on the AND/OR graph that illustrates all possible disassembly sequences of a given product, we identify the physical properties that are considered as constraints in the model. As a result of the solution procedure, the recovery problem can be transformed into a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model. We show an example that illustrates the concept of our model.
We develop a nonlinear integer programming model which minimizes the total cost with the optimal number of operators to hire and their optimal allocation to the tasks under the diverse constraints such as the weekly, daily, and hourly maximum allowable abandonment rates for the time-varying inbound call volume. We present a case study based on actual data at a call center, in order to prove the validity of applying the optimization method proposed. By the one-sample two-tailed t-test, we confirm that the expected abandonment rates resulting from the optimization method are identical with the ones from the discrete-event simulation within specified confidence intervals.
Recently, ESS became efficient device to stabilize electric power supply system with the development SG related technology. In fact. there are some constraints to supply ESS, because of the high cost and required space, but rapid technology development for ESS will make it more useful soon. So, through this paper, we analyzed the benefit and demand effect when the battery is applied the building based on the measured energy consumption. After that, we got the conclusion that there is a volume limit in ESS application, in a benefit view point. And we realized that there is a demand violation, and the Cost-based BEMS is the best solution to enhance the effect of ESS application.
