The failure of steam generators (SGs) due to corrosion is one of the most important problems in power plants. Impurities usually accumulate in the hot sides of SG and form deposits on the SG surfaces. In this paper, the sensitivity analysis of the accumulation of water impurities in the heat exchangers of nuclear power plants is presented. The convection-diffusion equation of the liquid phase on the heated surfaces is derived and then solved by the finite volume method. Also, the effects of the thermal-hydraulic parameters in the form of dimensionless numbers, such as $Pe_q$, $Pe_u$, $k_q$(relative solubility of impurity between the steam and water) on the impurities concentration are studied.

Based on the strain gradient theory (SGT), vibration analysis of an embedded micro cylindrical shell reinforced with agglomerated carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is investigated. The elastic medium is simulated by the orthotropic Pasternak foundation. The structure is subjected to magnetic field in the axial direction. For obtaining the equivalent material properties of structure and considering agglomeration effects, the Mori-Tanaka model is applied. The motion equations are derived on the basis of Mindlin cylindrical shell theory, energy method and Hamilton's principal. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is proposed to evaluate the frequency of system for different boundary conditions. The effects of different parameters such as CNTs volume percent, agglomeration of CNTs, elastic medium, magnetic field, boundary conditions, length to radius ratio and small scale parameter are shown on the frequency of the structure. The results indicate that the effect of CNTs agglomeration plays an important role in the frequency of system so that considering agglomeration leads to lower frequency. Furthermore, the frequency of structure increases with enhancing the small scale parameter.
The purpose of this study is to analyze heterogeneous distribution of branch-like structure at downstream region of inner spray. The previous many studies about diesel spray structure have yet stayed in the analysis of 2-D structure, and there are very few of informations which are concerned with 3-D analysis of the structure. The heterogeneous distribution of droplets in inner spray affects the mixture formation of diesel spray, and also the combustion characteristics of the diesel engines. Therefore, in order to investigate 3-D structure of evaporative spray the laser beam of 2-D plane was used in this study. Liquid fuel was injected from a single-hole nozzle (l/d=5) into a constant-volume vessel under high pressure and temperature in order to visualize the spray phenomena. The incident laser beam was offset on the central axis. From the images analysis taken by offset of laser beam, we examine formation mechanism of heterogeneous distribution by vortex flow at the downstream of the diesel spray. As the experimental results, the branch-like structure formed heterogeneous distribution of the droplets consists of high concentration of vapor phase in the periphery of droplets and spray tip of branch-like structure. Also the 3-D spatial structure of the evaporative diesel spray can be verified by images obtained from 2-D measurement methods.
This is the first attempt to consider the nonlinear bending analysis of porous functionally graded (FG) thick annular and circular nanoplates resting on Kerr foundation. The size effects are captured based on modified couple stress theory (MCST). The material properties of the porous FG nanostructure are assumed to vary smoothly through the thickness according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. The elastic medium is modeled by Kerr elastic foundation which consists of two spring layers and one shear layer. The governing equations are extracted based on Hamilton's principle and two variables refined plate theory. Utilizing generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM), the nonlinear static behavior of the nanostructure is obtained under different boundary conditions. The effects of various parameters such as material length scale parameter, boundary conditions, and geometrical parameters of the nanoplate, elastic medium constants, porosity and FG index are shown on the nonlinear deflection of the annular and circular nanoplates. The results indicate that with increasing the material length scale parameter, the nonlinear deflection is decreased. In addition, the dimensionless nonlinear deflection of the porous annular nanoplate is diminished with the increase of porosity parameter. It is hoped that the present work may provide a benchmark in the study of nonlinear static behavior of porous nanoplates.

Graphene Nanosheets play an important role in nanosensors due to their proper surface to volume ratio. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to consider the nonlinear vibration behavior of graphene nanosheets (GSs) under the influence of electromagnetic fields and electrical current create forces. Considering more realistic assumptions, new equations have been proposed to study the nonlinear vibration behavior of the GSs carrying electrical current and placed in magnetic field. For this purpose, considering the influences of the magnetic tractions created by electrical and eddy currents, new relationships for electromagnetic interaction forces with these nanosheets have been proposed. Nonlinear coupled equations are discretized by Galerkin method, and then solved via Runge-Kutta method. The effect of different parameters such as size effect, electrical current magnitude and magnetic field intensity on the vibration characteristics of GSs is investigated. The results show that the magnetic field increases the linear natural frequency, and decreases the nonlinear natural frequency of the GSs. Excessive increase of the magnetic field causes instability in the GSs.
Plunge milling is the fastest way to mill away large volumes of metal in the axial direction. The residual volume (inaccessible volume by the plungers) is minimized when selecting a specific direction of filling. This direction is known as the optimal inclination angle for filling of the plunged area. This paper proposes a new algorithm to calculate the optimal inclination angle of filling and to fill the plunged area with multi-plungers sizes. The proposed algorithm uses the geometry of the 2D area of the shape that being cutting to estimate the optimal inclination angle of filling. It is found that, the optimal inclination angle for filling of the plunged area is the same direction as the longer width of the equivalent convex polygon of the boundary contour. The results of the tested examples show that, the residual volume is minimized when comparing the proposed algorithm with the previous method.
To adequately analyze flows in pipe or duct network system, traditional node-based junction coupling methods require the junction loss which is specified by empirical or analytic correlations. In this paper, a new finite volume junction coupling method using a ghost junction cell is developed by considering the interchange of linear momentum as well as the important wall-effect at junction without requiring any correlation on the junction loss. Also, boundary treatment is modified to preserve the stagnation enthalpy across boundaries, such as pipe-end and the interface between junction and branch. Also, the computational accuracy and efficiency of the Godunov-type finite volume schemes are investigated by tracing the total mechanical energy of rapid transients due to sudden closure of valve at downstream end.
Maximum intensity projection (MIP) is a volume rendering method which extracts maximum values along the viewing direction through volume data. It visualizes high-density structures, such as angio-graphic datasets so that it is frequently used in medical imaging systems. We have proposed an efficient two-step MIP acceleration method that uses the recent CPUs. First, we exploited SIMD instructions to reduce conditional branch instructions which take up a considerable part of whole rendering process, so that we improved rendering speed. Second, we proposed a new method, which accesses volume and image data successively by modifying the shear-warp rendering. This method improves memory access patterns so that cache misses are reduced. Using the current CPUs, our method improved the rendering speed by a factor of 7 than that of the shear-warp rendering.

This study was conducted to present an effective control method for the common duct system to uniformly discharge volume flow rate exhausted from the kitchen and bathroom of each household in an apartment regardless of the position of household. Since the common duct system is installed vertically and the ventilator is installed in the terminal, the static pressure of each household decreases when vertical height increases. Therefore, the volume flow rate exhausted from each household is different. In order to improve such a phenomenon, a constant air volume damper shall be installed in a branch duct coupled with a common vertical duct system. The selected ventilator should also be able to handle the maximum volume flow rate considering diversity factor. Therefore, a uniform volume flow rate must be exhausted from all households where the hood is operated. This paper mainly focuses on suggestion of an optimum exhaust control method by comparing exhaust performance of each household according to the presence or absence of a constant air volume damper.

This article presents an analysis into the nonlinear forced vibration of a micro cylindrical shell reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with considering agglomeration effects. The structure is subjected to magnetic field and transverse harmonic mechanical load. Mindlin theory is employed to model the structure and the strain gradient theory (SGT) is also used to capture the size effect. Mori-Tanaka approach is used to estimate the equivalent material properties of the nanocomposite cylindrical shell and consider the CNTs agglomeration effect. The motion equations are derived using Hamilton's principle and the differential quadrature method (DQM) is employed to solve them for obtaining nonlinear frequency response of the cylindrical shells. The effect of different parameters including magnetic field, CNTs volume percent and agglomeration effect, boundary conditions, size effect and length to thickness ratio on the nonlinear forced vibrational characteristic of the of the system is studied. Numerical results indicate that by enhancing the CNTs volume percent, the amplitude of system decreases while considering the CNTs agglomeration effect has an inverse effect.
