  • Optimized volume production of nanoscale phosphor powders synthesized by radio frequency (RF) plasma process was developed for the application to plasma display panels. The nano powders were synthesized by feeding the both solid and liquid type precursors, and nanoparticle phosphors were characterized in terms of particle size, shape, and photoluminescence (PL) intensities. Computer simulation was performed in advance to determine the process parameters, and nano phosphors were evaluated by comparing with current commercial micron-sized phosphor powders. Practical feeding of both solid and liquid type precursor was proved to be effective for volume production. The developed process showed a potential as a production method for red, blue and green phosphor although the PL intensity still needs further improvement.

  • Characteristics of smoke emission in light duty diesel vehicles was investigated according to the year of production, engine displacement volume, and mileage. The smoke emission was measured using light extinction smoke measurement method under free acceleration test mode. Total number of the tested vehicles was 180. The year of production of the tested vehicles distributed from 2002 to 2007. The displacement volumes of the tested vehicles were categorized as 2-liter, 2.5-liter, 2.7-liter, and 3-liter. The mileage of the tested vehicles distributed from 20,000 km to 400,000 km. The more recent in the year of production of the tested vehicles did not show clearly lower in smoke emissions. Smoke emission showed different values according to driver's pedal pushing pattern. Also, smoke emission peak for each free acceleration test initially increased and reach a maximum of the peak values. Afterwards, the smoke peak gradually decreased as number of test increased. A new guide line was proposed to determine the smoke value from the light duty diesel vehicles based on smoke emission peak patterns which were obtained with several repeated free acceleration tests.

  • One of the important phytohormones produced by plant growth promoting bacteria is the auxin; indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), with L-tryptophan as the precursor. In this study, we focused on the investigation of optimal conditions for the production of IAA by Bacillus megaterium BM5. We investigated culturing conditions, such as incubation temperature, pH of the culture medium and incubation period, with varying media components such as inoculation volume, tryptophan concentration and carbon and nitrogen source. Besides, optimization study intended for high IAA production was carried out with fermentation parameters such as rpm and aeration. The initial yield of $42{\mu}g\;IAA\;ml^{-1}$ after 24 hr increased to $85{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ when 5% (v/v) of L-tryptophan was used in the culture broth. The maximum yield of $320{\mu}g\;IAA\;ml^{-1}$ was observed in trypticase soy broth (TSB) supplemented with starch and soybean meal as C and N sources with a C/N ratio of 3:1 (v/v) at $30^{\circ}C$, pH 8.0 for 48 hrs with 1.0 vvm and 250 rpm in 5 L working volume using 10 L scale fermenter. The bacterial auxin extracted from the culture broth was confirmed by thin layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography and effect on plant growth was confirmed by root elongation test.

  • This research on the present state of production and circulation of boseong-sambae, based on the materials, has been collected and arranged through the survey for one you, 2003. Boseong-sambae, the hemp fabric produced at Boseong, hold 35% of nationwide production volume and 50% of circulation volume. The products of hemp include hemp fabrics, shroud, contemporary Korean dresses and other household articles. Dried hemp skin, hemp thread and hemp fabrics are traded at the fair held in every five days, mostly by direct transactions which is trusted between the producers and consumers. A bolt of boseong-sambae includes 20 ja(a Korean foot, 60cm in length) of hemp fabrics in breadth of 35cm. The price of a bolt is approximately 2∼3 hundred thousand won. They are endeavoring to revive hemp fabric that the image was lost due to the cheap and coarse fabrics woven with Chinese thread since the latter half of 1990's. The advanced countries have invested positively in this business because hemp is an environment friendly material. Thus, a strong national support is demanded in this field facing a crisis due to the inundating of coarse hemp products from China, and the aging problem of the initiate, the reason of the discontinuation of the inherited technique. Through this research understanding tire present station and the problem of hemp production, the future research will be followed expecting the Renaissance of the Korean traditional hemp fabrics.

  • Optimal criterion for the scale-up production of schizophyllan, a fungal polysaccharide secreted by Schizophyllum commune, was investigated. For the production of the polysaccharide in a 150-l bioreactor, the culture conditions optimized in a 15-l bioreactor were applied to a 150-l bioreactor with scale-up process, by changing impeller speed and airflow rate. The optimized impeller speed in the 15-l bioreactor was 50 rpm in a technical medium based on barley. For establishment of the scale-up process, 3 kinds of criteria were used while the gas throughput number was kept constant, as follows; constant volume-related power input, constant tip speed of stirrer, and constant Reynolds number. In the 150-l bioreactor, the highest values for the maximum specific growth rate (1.17/day) and productivity (0.63 g/L${\cdot}$day) were achieved in the culture condition from constant volumerelated power input criterion.

  • This paper deals with investigation on the various effects of phosphodiesterase production of Streptomyces sp. and several properties of the enzyme. The results were as follows. 1) As a carbon source, sucrose was most effective PDase production when it was added. to the basal medium at 3% concentration. 2) These enzymes were remarkably activated by $Ca^{2+}$, Co$^{2+}$ and Mn$^{2+}$ but inhibited by Cu$^{2+}$. It was observed that concentration of metal ions, 0.1% of $Ca^{2+}$, 0.01% of Co$^{2+}$ and 0.04% of Mn$^{2+}$ were effective on the production of phosphodiesterase and phosphomonoesterase. 3) In case of the effect of aeration volume, 25 ml was very effective, that is, the more sufficient aeration, the better enzyme activity. Enzyme activity was to be found effective at 3% of inoculation volume, and comparatively more effective at 2%, 4% of inoculation volume. 4) Initial pH was 8. The enzyme activity reached to the maximum at 48 hours of cultivation time. 5) The optimum pH of phosphodiesterase was about 8 and that of phosphomonoesterase was about 9. The optimum temperature of phosphodiesterase and phosphomonoesterase was 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 5$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. respectively.

  • Research was conducted in a minirotation plantation with four different planting densities at Tatae-ri, Chongwoon-myon, Yangpyong-gun, Kyonggi-do, to investigate the relation between volume and biomass production. Nine-year-old Alnus hirsuta var. sibirica analyzed to determine volume yield and weight equations for aboveground parts. The results suggest that the most suitable harvesting or thinning period at highly dense plots, more than 6,000 trees per hectare, is five years after planting, and the most fitted regression equation model for estimating aboveground biomass or total tree biomass is $logY=b_0+b_1logd^2h$.

  • In the present study, temperature evaluations on long-term storage of radioactive waste produced in the process of isotope production were performed using two different methods. Three-dimensional analysis was carried out assuming a volumetric heat source, while two-dimensional studies were performed assuming a point source. The maximum temperature difference between the predictions of the volumetric and point source models was approximately $5^{\circ}C$. For the conceptual design level, a point source model may be suitable to obtain the overall temperature characteristics of different loading locations. For more detailed analysis, the model with the volumetric source may be applicable to optimize the loading pattern in order to obtain minimum temperatures.

  • Due to climate change, interest in crop production and distribution is increasing, and attempts are being made to use bigdata and AI to predict production volume and control shipments and distribution stages. Prediction of agricultural product imports not only affects prices, but also controls shipments of farms and distributions of distribution companies, so it is important information for establishing marketing strategies. In this paper, we create an artificial intelligence prediction model that predicts the future import volume based on the wholesale market melon import volume data disclosed by the agricultural statistics information system and evaluate its accuracy. We create prediction models using three models: the Neural Prophet technique, the Ensembled Neural Prophet model, and the GRU model. As a result of evaluating the performance of the model by comparing two major indicators, MAE and RMSE, the Ensembled Neural Prophet model predicted the most accurately, and the GRU model also showed similar performance to the ensemble model. The model developed in this study is published on the web and used in the field for 1 year and 6 months, and is used to predict melon production in the near future and to establish marketing and distribution strategies.
