Comparison of the Performance of the VAV Dampers for the Circular Duct (원형 덕트용 VAV 댐퍼의 성능 비교)

  • The performance of the typical VAV dampers; blade type, venturi type and blade-orifice type, for the circular duct, is obtained by measuring the volume flow rate as a function of the opening degree. The performance features are discussed by comparing the volume flow rate of each damper. It is shown that the blade-orifice type damper, recently developed, is excellent in its linearity of the performance and that it is worse than the blade type but much better than the venturi type in its flow resistance.

Analysis of Diversion Rate using Expressway Traffic Data(FTMS, TCS): Focusing on Maesong~Balan IC at Seohaean Expressway (고속도로 교통데이터(FTMS, TCS)를 이용한 경로전환율 분석: 서해안고속도로 매송~발안 구간을 중심으로)

  • Due to growing interests in the distribution of traffic volume through information dissemination such as VMS and traffic broadcasting system, the research on the driver's reaction and effect of the traffic report has continued. In this study, we propose a methodology, which estimates the traffic volume of diversion and the consequential diversion rate using FTMS data and TCS data, and the estimation is based on the analysis of the national highway and IC, in which real-time FTMS and TCS data are established. We also calculate the diversion rate of actual targeted sections and analyze the changes in time and spatial diversion rate. In this study, we define a deviation (considering a deviation due to dynamic properties of traffic conditions) found when the outflow traffic volume is temporarily higher than the average outflow traffic volume on a relevant time slot after providing traffic information. The diverting volume is considered to be caused by the traffic information, and the study determines the ratio of traffic volume on highways to that of route diversion as the diversion rate. The analysis on changes in the diversion rate in accordance with the time flow, the initial change in the diversion rate on upstream IC that first acquires the report on the traffic congestion is significant. After that, the change in the diversion rate on upstream IC affects the route diversion on downstream IC with spatial and time flow, and this again leads the change in upstream IC. Thereby, we confirmed that there is a feedback-control circulation system in the route diversion.

  • The effects of the variation of proedd varibles on the flow patterns and effects of the flow patterns on the deposition rate and uniformity in the Si-epitaxy CVD with SiH4 as the source of Si were studied through the calculation by use of control volume method. The reslts showed that the natural convection was undesirable to the uniformity of deposition rate, whose effects were decreased with the dercrese with the decrese of the pressure in the reactoor and with the increase of the flow rate. However. the excessive increase of flow rate caused the movement of the unreacted gas to the substrate. Therefore it resulted in the non-uniform depositions. The rotation of substrate was apperared to improve the uniformity. The resulte of this study could used in CVD process to design the reator and to find the optimum conditions of the process variables.

  • Carboxy-guns are used for rapid and precise injection of $CO_2$ gas to the target skin area using external power source. In the design of carboxy-gun, the most important thing is how to precisely control injection volume of $CO_2$ gas. This paper deals with the control scheme of injection volume of carboxy-gun using solenoid valve. First the amount of volume that passes through the solenoid valve under on-off time ratio control is estimated based on the assumption of compressible gas flow. The flow rate of gas is experimentally measured under the varying pressure of the gas reservoir. Two results showed good correlation to each other, thus demonstrating the validity of the volume control strategy.

  • We already presented new calculation method about the temperature distribution in hot water pipe flow of the unsteady condition. In this paper, we introduce consequence of the case study to confirm appropriation of the calculation method, and case study performs to establish actual hot water use supposed two model that is; the CWV(constant water volume) and VWV(variable water volume).

  • A pedagogic model for blood flow is introduced to help medicine majors understand a simplified version of Navier-Stokes equations which is known to be a good tool for interpreting the phenomena in blood flow. The pressure gradient consists of a time-independent part known as Hagen-Poiseuille's gradient and a time-dependent part known as Sexl's, and the model formula for the volume rate of blood flow is reduced to a very simple form. For demonstration, the blood rate in human aorta system is analyzed in connection with the time-dependence of pressure gradient. It is shown for Sexl's part that the flow rate lags the pressure gradient by ${\pi}/2$, which is thought to be due to the relaxation process involved.

  • On the premise of ensuring that the automatic and quantitative discharging function of concrete conveyors is met, the accuracy of the weight forecast by the mathematical model of the screw conveying volume is improved, and the error of the weight of the concrete parts and the accumulation thickness is reduced. In this paper, the discrete element method (DEM) is used to simulate the macroscopic flow of concrete. Using the concrete discrete element model, the size of the screw conveyor is set, and establish the response model between the influencing factors (process and structure) and the concrete mass flow rate according to the design points of the screw discharging experiment. The nonlinear data fitting method is used to obtain the volumetric efficiency function under the influence of process and structural factors, and the traditional screw conveying volume model is improved. The mass flow rate of concrete predicted by the improved mathematical model of screw conveying volume is consistent with the test results. The model can accurately describe the conveying process of concrete and achieve the purpose of improving the accuracy of forecasting the weight of discharged concrete.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of Liquid-Solid Suspension Flow in a Horizontal Pipe

  • Particles in liquid-solid suspension flow might enhance or suppress the rate of heat transfer and turbulence depending on their size and concentration. The heat transfer characteristics of liquid-solid suspension in turbulent flow are not well understood due to the complexibility of interaction between solid particles and turbulence of the carrier fluid. In this study, the heat transfer coefficients of liquid-solid mixtures are investigated using a double pipe heat exchanger with suspension flows in the inner pipe. Experiments are carried out using spherical fly ash particles with mass median diameter ranging from 4 to $78{\mu}m$. The volume concentration of solids in the slurry ranged from 0 to 50% and Reynolds number ranged from 4,000 to 11,000. The heat transfer coefficient of liquid-solid suspension to water flow is found to increase with decreasing particle diameter. The heat transfer coefficient increases with particle volume concentration exhibiting the highest heat transfer enhancement at the 3% solid volume concentration and then gradually decreases. A correlation for heat transfer to liquid-solid flows in a horizontal pipe is presented.

Improvement of the CCFL Model of the RELAP5/MOD3.2.2B Code in a Horizontal Pipe

  • To demonstrate the applicability of RELAP5 to the prediction of the onset offlooding in the hot leg at the reflux condensation phase during mid-loop operation, numerical analysis is performed for the counter-current flow in a horizontal pipe with the inclined riser using the RELAP5/MOD3.2.2b code. It is found that the RELAP5, simulating the CCFL phenomena using interfacial friction along with the flow regime map in the horizontal pipe, produces unsatisfactory results. Under the CCFL condition, it is observed that large oscillation exists in the flow rate, void fraction, and etc. and the liquid flow rate is much lower than that predicted by the CCFL model measured in the experiment. The CCFL model of RELAP5 for the vertical volume is extended to the model for the horizontal and inclined volumes. The horizontal volume flow regime map and interfacial friction model coupled to the CCFL model are modified. And a new correlation developed from Kang's experiment is implemented to the CCFL model of RELAP5. With this modified RELAP5, the analysis of CCFL phenomena in the horizontal pipe and hot leg geometry is performed, and produces reasonable results in comparison with experimental data.

Analysis of Flow through High Pressure Bypass Valve in Power Plant (발전소용 고압 바이패스 밸브 내부 유동해석)

  • In the present work, flow analysis has been performed in the steam turbine bypass control valve (single-path type) for two different cases i.e., case with steam only and case with both steam and water. The numerical analysis is performed by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. The shear stress transport (SST) model and $k-{\varepsilon}$ model are used to each different case as turbulence closure. Symmetry condition is applied at the mid plane of the valve while adiabatic condition is used at the outer wall of the cage. Grid independency test is performed to find the optimal number of grid points. The pressure and temperature distributions on the outer wall of the cage are analyzed. The mass flow rate at maximum plug opening condition is compared with the designed mass flow rate. The numerical analysis of multiphase mixing flow(liquid and vapor) is also performed to inspect liquid-vapor volume fraction of bypass valve. The result of volume fraction is useful to estimate both the safety and confidence of valve design.
