Traffic noise estimation models are useful in evaluation of the noise pollution in current circumstances. They are helpful tools for design and planning new roads and highways. Measurement of average traffic noise level is possible when traffic speed and volume are known. The objective of this study was to devise a model for prediction of highway traffic noise levels based on current traffic variables in Iran. The design of this model was to take the impact of traffic congestion into consideration and to be field tested. This study is a library research augmented by field study conducted on Saeedi Highway located south west of Tehran. The period for the field study lasted 5 days from 7-12 February, 2013. This study examined liner and non-liner methods in formulation of its model. Liner method without a fixed coefficient was the best fit for the intended model. The proposed model can serve as a decision making tool to estimate the impact of key influential factors on sound pressure levels in urban areas in Iran.
An inverse radiation analysis is presented for the estimation of the wall emissivities for an absorbing, emitting, and scattering media with diffusely emitting and reflecting opaque boundaries. In this study, a repulsive particle swarm optimization(RPSO) algorithm which is a relatively recent heuristic search method is proposed as an effective method for improving the search efficiency for unknown parameters. To verify the performance of the proposed RPSO algorithm, it is compared with a basic particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm and a hybrid genetic algorithm(HGA) for the inverse radiation problem with estimating the wall emissivities in a two-dimensional irregular medium when the measured temperatures are given at only four data positions. A finite-volume method is applied to solve the radiative transfer equation of a direct problem to obtain measured temperatures.

An inverse radiation analysis is presented for the estimation of the boundary emissivities for an absorbing, emitting, and scattering media with diffusely emitting and reflecting opaque boundaries. The finite-volume method is employed to solve the radiative transfer equation for a two-dimensional irregular geometry. A hybrid genetic algorithm is proposed for improving the efficiency of the genetic algorithm and reducing the effects of genetic parameters on the performance of the genetic algorithm. After verifying the performance of the proposed hybrid genetic algorithm, it is applied to inverse radiation analysis in estimating the wall emissivities in a two-dimensional irregular medium when the measured temperatures are given at only four data positions. The effect of measurement errors on the estimation accuracy is examined.

A pose estimation process from medical images is calculating locations and orientations of objects obtained from Computed Tomography (CT) volume data utilizing X-ray images from two directions. In this process, digitally reconstructed radiograph (DRR) images of spatially transformed objects are generated and compared to X-ray images repeatedly until reasonable transformation matrices of the objects are found. The DRR generation and image comparison take majority of the total time for this pose estimation. In this paper, a fast DRR generation technique based on GPU parallel computing is introduced. A volume ray-casting algorithm is explained with brief vector operations and a parallelization technique of the algorithm using Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) is discussed. This paper also presents the implementation results and time measurements comparing to those from pure-CPU implementation and open source toolkit.

In order to respond to environmental problems and to efficiently recycle resources, it is important to evaluate the amount of construction waste generated. In particular, the estimation of the amount of waste generated in the demolition work was performed based on the basic unit of waste generated per floor area. This study proposes a method using drones as a method for evaluating the amount of demolition waste in a wide area. In the simulated application, the field measurement results and the proposed method were compared, and the effectiveness of the building volume calculation using drones was confirmed. It was confirmed that the building volume can be calculated quickly in the additional pilot application.
For calculating the number of lane, it is essential to gain the 30th or 100th highest design hourly volume. The design hourly volume obtained from AADT multiplied by design hour factor. In this paper, we developed the regression models fur estimating the 30th highest hour volume and 100th highest hour volume as defined by AADT 50,000 criterion based on the data obtained the 34 monitoring sites in highway. By comparing the performance of the proposed models and conventional models using MAPE, the proposed model for 30th highest design hourly volume reduced the estimator error of 11.83% than that of conventional methods for less than AADT 50,000 and decreased estimation error of 22.17% than that of conventional method for more than AADT 50,000. Moreover, the proposed model for 100th highest design hourly volume reduced the estimator error of 8.16% than that of conventional methods for less than AADT 50,000 and decreased estimation error of 15.25% than that of conventional method for more than AADT 50,000.

The aim of this study is to examine the correlation between tooth wear and age by quantitatively measuring maxillary first molar wear in children. A total of 150 maxillary dental models were analyzed in 30 subjects (male, 11; female, 19) with an age range of 6-14 years. Maxillary first molar wear were assessed based on area, volume and the shortest distance from the buccal occlusal plane to the central pit point (BCPH). The area and volume of the tooth cusps were measured at four different offset-plane heights (0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 mm). Relationship between age and the amount of wear or BCPH were statistically analyzed. Correlation and regression analyses were also performed, and age estimation was obtained with linear regression analysis. Repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed significant differences between age and the amount of wear based on area, volume, and offset-plane height. Except age of 8 and 10, 12 and 14's 0.2-mm offset-plane-measured volume, all area and volume measurement of all ages and offset-plane height showed a significant amount of increase. Wear speeds were calculated using the BCPH. Among age and measurement variables, the correlation coefficient was strongest when the volume was measured from the 0.4-mm offset-plane. As age increases, the amount of wear, as quantified by area and volume measurements, also increases. According to this study, a regression equation that can be used for age estimation is follows: Age $(y)=0.16{\times}0.4V+0.85$ ($R^2=0.490$) using volume.
A reverberation chamber should be designed and constructed so as to satisfy its purposes and available space. However, it is somewhat difficult to meet the intended design requirements due to various errors from construction process. So, the post-construction measurement of its volume and surface areas is very essential to check the actual volume and volume uncertainty of a reverberation chamber These values should be carefully calculated and accurately estimated since they are used not only to evaluate the acoustic characteristics of building materials but also to calculate uncertainties for other acoustic characteristics. In this work, the method for the calculation and uncertainty estimation of the volume of a reverberation chamber is presented. To this end, the coordinates of all corners was measured with Total Station after construction. The results showed that the calculated volume of the measured reverberation chamber differs by 5 % from the design specification. The expanded volume uncertainty was also estimated to be about 2 % of the total calculated volume.

This paper presents a method for estimating the bounding volume for image-based 3D object reconstruction. The bounding volume of an object is a three-dimensional space where the object is expected to exist, and the size of the bounding volume strongly affects the resolution of the reconstructed geometry. Therefore, the size of a bounding volume should be as small as possible while it encloses an actual object. To this end, the proposed method uses a set of silhouettes of an object and generates a point cloud using a point filter. A bounding volume is then determined as the minimum sphere that encloses the point cloud. The experimental results show that the proposed method generates a bounding volume that encloses an actual object as small as possible.
This study was carried out to estimate the stand volume for Japanese larch(Larix leptolepis) by Strand sampling method. The data collected for this study were based on the 380 sample plots from the field survey, which were distributed in the major part of Korea(Kyeongi, Kangweon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Chunbuk and Kyeongbuki), and the plotless sampling instrument such as dendrometer, spiegel relascope and tele-relascope were used. The procedure for this study is summarized briefly as follows : 1. There were not only significant differences between volume estimation by Strand sampling method and that by plot survey method, and the relationship was y=bx, where b approached nearly 1. Therefore, the stand volume of Japanese larch could by estimated by Strand sampling method. 2. The value measured by three different plotless sampling instruments did not showed any significant differences between instruments and observers, density and instruments, and ground slope and instruments. 3. With the stand volume, basal area height showed the highest correlation and stand form height, average height, basal area per ha correlated with the volume in thier orders. 4. The best fitted equation of stand volume estimation with basal area height by relascope was as follow. log V=-0.0375+0.8910 log GH-1.5946 1/GH Stand volume table also was obtained using the above estimeated equation. 5. The relationship between estimated value and actual value was Y=bx, where b was nearly 1. The correlation coefficient was very high and the percentage of estimated error was 4.5%.
