  • This paper proposed the voltage control of stand-alone inverter for power quality improvement under unbalanced and non-linear load. The 3-phase DC-AC inverter controls CVCF(Constant Voltage Constant Frequency) and selective harmonic eliminate method in stand-alone mode by PR controller, and the stand-lone inverter supplies stable sinusoidal voltage to balanced, unbalanced and non-linear loads. The total harmonic distortion(THD) of line-to-line load voltage($V_{LL}$) is 1.2% in the balanced load. THD of $V_{LL}$ is reduced from 5.2% to 1.4% and 6.7% to 3.5%, respectively unbalanced and non-linear load. The stand-alone inverter can be supplies sinusoidal balanced voltage to unbalanced load because the voltage unbalanced factor(VUF) of $V_{LL}$ is reduced from 5.2% to 1.4% in the unbalanced load. Feasibility of control method for a stand-alone inverter will be verified through 30kW stand-alone inverter system.

  • This paper presents a novel switching voltage model and an offset-based pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme for multilevel inverters with unbalanced DC sources. The switching voltage model under a DC voltage imbalance will be formulated in general form for multilevel neutral-point-clamped topologies. Analysis of the reference switching voltages from active and non-active switching voltage components in abc coordinates can enable voltage implementation for an unbalanced DC-source condition. Offset voltage is introduced as an indispensable variable in the switching voltage model for multilevel voltage-source inverters. The PWM performance is controlled through the design of two offset components in a subsequence. One main offset may refer to the common mode voltage, and the other offset restricts its effect on the quality of PWM control in related DC levels. The PWM quality can be improved as the switching loss is reduced in a discontinuous PWM mode by setting the local offset, which is related to the load currents. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by experimental results.

  • This paper presents a discrete wavelet transform approach for determining the beginning and end times of voltage sags. Firstly, investigations in the use of some typical mother wavelets, namely Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets and Biorthogonal are carried out and the most appropriate mother wavelet is selected. The proposed technique is based on utilizing the maximum value of Dl (at scale 1) coefficients in multiresolution analysis (MRA) based on the discrete wavelet transform. The results are compared with other methods for determining voltage sag duration, such as the Root Mean Square (RMS) voltage and Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) methods. It is shown that the voltage sag detection technique based on the wavelet transform is a satisfactory and reliable method for detecting voltage sags in power quality disturbance analysis.

  • While the matrix converter has many advantages that include bi-directional power flow, a size reduction, a long lifetime, and sinusoidal input currents, it is vulnerable to the input voltage disturbances, because it directly exchanges the input voltage to the output voltage. So, in this paper, a critical evaluation of the effect of various abnormal voltage conditions like unbalanced power supply, balanced non-sinusoidal power supply, input voltage sags and short time blackout of power supply on matrix converter fed induction motor drives is presented. The operation under various abnormal conditions has been analyzed. For this, a 230V, 250VA three phase to three phase matrix converter (MC) fed induction motor drive prototype is implemented using DSP based controller and tests have been carried out to evaluate and improve the stability of system under typical abnormal conditions. Digital storage oscilloscope & power quality analyzer are used for experimental observations.

  • Recently, the interest on power quality has been hot issue because the equipments cause voltage disturbance and become more sensitive to the voltage disturbance. The DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) is one of the Custom Power Device that can compensate the voltage. DVR operates as a series connected compensator whose output voltage can be controlled system voltage. And the magnitude of compensation voltage is limited by the characteristics of system and load. Compensation capability of DVR was simulated by EMTDC under several condition. This paper analyzed effect of DVR's compensation at power quality test center which has SSFG(Sag, swell, and Flicker Generator, CPDs(SSTS, DVR, DSTATCOM), and loads.

  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are balanced and connected to three power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, most of the loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating voltage unbalance. Voltage unbalance factor is mainly affected by load system rather than stable power system. Unbalanced voltage will draw a highly unbalanced current. As a result, the three-phase currents may differ considerably, thus resulting in an increased temperature rise in the machine. This paper presents a scheme on the characteristics of voltage and current unbalance factor under the load variation at the three phase 4-wire system. Load unbalance factor is measured by the power quality measurement apparatus and compared by the current unbalance factor. Two methods are indicated similar results. The voltage unbalance factor of the three-phase 4-wire system is approved by the field measurement. Each phase has an impedance each other by the unbalanced operation pattern and give rise to voltage unbalance.

  • Recent trend of increasing automated factories needs supply of high quality power from the utilities. Among the items of the power quality, voltage sag can be compensated by Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR). The key feature of the DVR is high response with less transient period to recover from the voltage sag due to the lightning or line-to-ground faults. In this paper we report that $H_{\infty}$ controller is very promising for the practical application to the controller of DVR. Experimental results shown in this paper was obtained by applying the control algorithm to 20 kVA DVR system. The experimental set consists of IGBT-based three phase inverter and the TMS320C32-60 DSP used for main processor of the control board. To simulate the 50% voltage sag, the SCR-based experimental set was constructed.

  • A low-voltage active CMOS inductor approach, which can improve the quality-factor(Q), is proposed in this paper. A low-voltage active inductor circuit topology with a feedback resistance is proposed, which can substantially improve its equivalent inductance and quality-factor(Q). This proposed low-voltage active inductor with a feedback resistance was simulated by ADS(Agilent) using 0.18um standard CMOS technology. Simulation showed that the designed active inductor had a maximum quality-factor(Q) of 3000 with a 1.5nH inductance at 4GHz

  • This study aims to present new chest AP examination exposure conditions through a study on the effect on image quality and patient dose by applying high tube voltage and scatter ray post-processing software during chest AP examination in digital radiography equipment. This study was used a human body phantom and in the chest AP position, the dosimeter was placed horizontally at the thoracic spine 6. The experiment was conducted by dividing into a low tube voltage (70 kVp, 400 mA, 3.2 mAs) group and a high tube voltage (100 kVp, 400 mA, 1.2 mAs) group. The collimation size (14″× 17″) and the source to image receptor distance(110 cm) were same applied to both groups. Radiation dose was presented to dose area product and entrance surface dose. Image quality was compared and analyzed by comparing the difference between the signal-to-noise ratio and the contrast-to-noise ratio of the image according to the application of the scatter ray post-processing software under each condition. The average value of the entrance surface dose in the low and high tube voltage conditions was 93.04±0.45 µGy and 94.25±1.51 µGy, which was slightly higher in the high tube voltage condition, but the dose area product was 0.97±0.04 µGy and 0.93±0.01 µGy. There was a statistically significant difference in the group mean value(p<0.01). In terms of image quality, the values of the signal-to-noise ratio and the contrast noise ratio were higher in the high tube voltage than in the low tube voltage, and decreased when the scattering line post-processing function was used, but the contrast resolution was improved. If there is a scatter ray post-processing function during chest AP examination, it is helpful to actively utilize it to improve the image quality. However, when this function is not available, I thought that applying a higher tube voltage state than a low tube voltage state will help to realize images with a large amount of information without changing the dose.

  • Cogeneration systems are seen as a significant innovation for dispersed energy generation since they are both environmentally friendly and has comparatively high degrees of efficiency. It is especially suited for the decentralized provision of electricity and heat. However, it causes operational problems such as voltage regulation, voltage variation, protection and safety. Especially, it is expected that the interconnection/disconnection operation of cogeneration system has an effect on distribution voltage regulation and variation. Recently, with the increased use of customer-owned computers and other sensitive electronic equipment, electric power quality has become an important concerns. Therefore, the voltage quality problems with cogeneration system should be investigated because the voltage quality is an important part of electrical power quality. In this paper, the momentary voltage dips associated with the interconnection/disconnection operation of cogeneration system are analyzed, including restraint solutions at the customer level. In addition, the unit capacity of cogeneration systems per feeder are evaluated from the view point of momentary voltage variations. The results of this paper are useful analysis data for interconnection standards/guidelines of cogeneration systems and dispersed generation (DG)
