  • This paper proposes a new voltage control method of distribution substation using fuzzy inference. The aims of distribution voltage control equipments are reducing the operation frequency of lap changers and improving the characteristics of voltage(decreasing the errors between the actual voltage and the reference voltage). However, these objectives are in a trade-off relationship. Conventional voltage control equipment does not have functions of judgement and prediction, so it turns up limitations of voltage control. Proposed voltage control method using fuzzy inference can improve voltage characteristics as it has those functions of judgement and prediction. This paper describes the design method of new voltage control method using fuzzy inference, simulates with simple voltage and current models, and compares decreased voltage errors with conventional voltage errors.

  • There arc two ways in the output voltage control method in PWM inverters. One Is double loop voltage control composed of inner current control loop and outer voltage control loop.'rho other is single loop voltage control method composed of voltage control loop only. It's characteristics shows lower performance in case of high output impedance than double loop voltage control. However, in case of low output impedance, it shows good control performance in all load ranges than double loop voltage control. In this paper, the rule and the gain of single loop voltage control have been developed analytically and these were verified through computer simulation and experiment.

  • This paper proposes the algorithm for the output AC voltage control of Z-source inverter by the detection of the input DC voltage and Z-network capacitor voltage. The actual modulation index of the proposed method is detected by the capacitor voltage in Z-network and input DC voltage of three-phase Z-source inverter. Control modulation index for the output voltage control is calculated by the detected actual modulation index and reference modulation index. And, calculated control modulation index is applied to the modified space vector modulation (SVM) for control the output voltage of Z-source inverter. To verify the validity of the proposed method, PSIM simulation was achieved and a DSP controlled 1[kW] three-phase Z-source inverter was producted. The simulation and experiment were performed under the condition that the load was changed in case of the constant input DC voltage and the input DC voltage was changed in case of the load was constant. As a result, we could know that the output phase voltage of Z-source inverter followed to the reference voltage 70[VRMS] despite the load or the input DC voltage were suddenly changed.

  • This paper presents speed control characteristics of capacitor-run SPIM(Single Phase Induction Motor) using TRIAC for comparing and analyzing four kinds of voltage control methods such as supply voltage control, main winding voltage control, auxiliary winding voltage control and auxiliary winding voltage control without starting capacitor. The computer simulations were performed using MATLAB Simulink to show control characteristics of four voltage control methods. And their control characteristics were conformed by experiments for capacitor-run 90W SPIM as a sample motor. The results of simulations and experiments show that supply voltage control method has fast dynamic response characteristics and main winding voltage control method has higher power efficiency and can be implemented at lower system cost.

  • This paper studies the voltage angle control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs). For voltage angle control, the optimum voltage angle trajectory according to the operating speed is researched while the voltage and current limit conditions are considered. Through research, two different optimum voltage angle trajectories that depend on the design of IPMSMs were found. The IPMSM drive based on a voltage angle control that follows such trajectory is proposed. Unlike the conventional voltage angle control method, which is applied only in the flux-weakening region, the proposed voltage angle control can be implemented in all operation ranges from low to high speed. The proposed method is verified by experiments using a DSC controller for 800 W IPMSM.

  • In this paper, we proposes the AC input voltage and current sensorless control scheme to control the input power factor and DC output voltage of the three-phase Z-source PWM rectifier. For DC-link voltage control which is sensitive to the system parameters of the PWM rectifier, fuzzy-PI controller is used. Because the AC input voltage and current are estimated using only the DC-link voltage and current, AC input voltage and current sensors are not required. In addition, the unity input power factor and DC output voltage can be controlled. The phase-angle of the detected AC input voltage and estimated voltage, the response characteristics of the DC output voltage according to the DC voltage references, the FFT results of the estimated voltage and current, efficiency, and the response characteristics of the conventional PI controller and fuzzy-PI controller are verified by PSIM simulation.

  • One of the major reasons for recent blackout, like August 14, 2003 blackout in the US and Canada has been insufficient voltage/reactive power support. For the stable reactive power management, a new approach for the voltage monitoring and control structure is required in the market environment. This paper proposes the effective localized-voltage control scheme using the information from pilot buses at each zone. In this paper, the steady state voltage monitoring and control (SSVMC) is adopted and illustrated for the voltage control scheme during steady state because it is thought as the systemic algorithm to explain voltage profile phenomenon before and after contingencies. And the concept of electrical distance is applied to simultaneously achieve both clustering the voltage control zone, and selecting the pilot bus as the representative node at each control zone. Applying SSVMC based on the structure with clustering and pilot bus enables system operators to monitor and understand the system condition much more easily, to monitor and control the voltage in real-time more manageably, and to respond quickly to a disturbance. The proposed voltage control scheme has been tested on the IEEE 14-bus system with the numerical analysis to examine the system reliability and structure efficiency.

  • The Buck-Boost converter consisted of two switches is more expensive than the conventional Buck converter, because of the increase of the components. However, it can control the DC voltage depending on the requested load voltage without additional circuits, because it can control the voltage under the relatively wide range of the load. Additionally, it can control the output voltage constantly under the variation of the input voltage. In the paper two control loops consisted of current and voltage control are designed. When two controllers are operated at the same time the problem of the output voltage is occurred. Therefore, the solution of the output voltage problem is proposed. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is investigated with simulated and experimental results for a prototype system rated at 1kVA.

  • This paper presents a new hybrid control scheme using Active-Clamped Class-E(ACCE) inverter for the Induction Heating (IH) jar. The proposed hybrid control scheme has characteristics, which acts as class-E inverter at lower switch voltage and ACCE inverter at higher switch voltage than reference voltage of the main switch by feeding back voltage of the switch. The proposedv hybrid control scheme also has advantage of conventional ACCE inverter such as Zero-Voltage-Switch(ZVS) of the main switch and the reduced switch voltage due to clamping cricuit. Moreover, the proposed hybrid control method using ACCE inverter has higher output power than convenional control scheme since ACCE inverter operates like class-E inverter at low input voltage condition. The principles of the proposed control are explained in detail and the validity of the proposed control scheme is verifed through the several interesting simulated and experimental results.
