Flow pattern of air-water two phase flow depends on the conditions of pressure void fraction and channel geometry. We classify the flow pattern by measuring the output signal of the conductivity probe. under the classified flow pattern we mount a visualization equipment on the test section and take pictures. We vary the concentration of pure solvent and polymer to measure local void fraction. We know that the maximum point position of local void fraction distribution move from the center of the pipe to the wall of the pipe as JSL increase when JSA is constant in two phase flow. But we find that the maximum point position of local void friction move from the wal of the pipe to the center of the pipe when polymer concentration increase.
This paper presents the results of investigating the change in welding residual stresses of the core shroud, which is one of subcomponents in reactor vessel internals, performing finite element analysis. First, the welding residual stresses of the core shroud were calculated by applying the heat conduction based lumped pass technique and finite element elastic-plastic stress analysis. Second, the temperature distribution of the core shroud during the normal operation was calculated by performing finite element temperature analysis considering gamma heating. Third, through the finite element viscoelastic-plastic stress analysis using the calculated temperature distribution and setting the calculated residual stresses as the initial stress state, the variation of the welding residual stresses was derived according to repeating the normal operation. In the viscoelastic-plastic stress analysis, the effects of neutron irradiation on mechanical properties during the cyclic normal operations were considered by using the previously developed user subroutines for the irradiation agings such as irradiation hardening/embrittlement, irradiation-induced creep, and void swelling. Finally, the effect of neutron irradiation on the welding residual stresses was analysed for each irradiation aging. As a result, it is found that as the normal operation is repeated, the welding residual stresses decrease and show insignificant magnitudes after the 10th refueling cycle. In addition, the irradiation-induced creep/void swelling has significant mitigation effect on the residual stresses whereas the irradiation hardening/embrittlement has no effect on those.
Local two-phase flow parameters of subcooled flow boiling in inclined annulus were measured to investigate the effect of inclination on the internal flow structure. Two-conductivity probe technique was applied to measure local gas phasic parameters, including void fraction, vapor bubble frequency, chord length, vapor bubble velocity and interfacial area concentration. Local liquid velocity was measured by Pilot tube. Experiments were conducted for three angles of inclination; 0$^{\circ}$(vertical), 30$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$. The system pressure was maintained at atmospheric pressure. The range of average void fraction was up to 10% and the average liquid superficial velocities were less than 1.3 m/sec. The results of experiments showed that the distributions of two-phase How parameters were influenced by the angle of channel inclination. Especially, the void fraction and chord length distributions were strongly affected by the increase of inclination angle, and flow pattern transition to slug flow was observed depending on the How conditions. The profiles of vapor velocity, liquid velocity and interfacial area concentration were found to be affected by the non-symmetric bubble size distribution in inclined channel. Using the measured distributions of local phasic parameters, an analysis for predicting average void fraction was performed based on the drift flux model and flowing volumetric concentration. And it was demonstrated that the average void fraction can be more appropriately presented in terms of flowing volumetric concentration.

The relative density of soil indicate loose and dense state of sand. Because sand is low compressibility, initial relative density of sand is important effect factor of compression and shear behavior. To measure exactly relative density, the exactly maximum and minimum void ratio was determinated by laboratory tests. Generally, vibrating table method is adapted for minimum void ratio(KS F 2345). However KS F 2345 is not consider the particle break during the vibrating table test. In this study, The minimum void ratio is compared with a method of Pluviation and Vibrating table test results using the K-7(crushed sand). It is concluded that the K-7 sand particles were crushed during the vibrating table test and vibrating table test is not a suitable test for a crushed sand $e_{min}$.

Particle size of tailings in different areas of dams varies due to sedimentation and separation. Saturated hydraulic conductivity of high-stacked talings materials are seriously affected by void ratio and particle breakage. Conjoined consolidation permeability tests were carried out using a self-developed high-stress permeability and consolidation apparatus. The hydraulic conductivity decreases nonlinearly with the increase of consolidation pressure. The seepage pattern of coarse-particle tailings is channel flow, and the seepage pattern of fine-particle tailings is scattered flow. The change rate of hydraulic conductivity of tailings with different particle sizes under high consolidation pressure tends to be identical. A hydraulic conductivity hysteresis is found in coarse-particle tailings. The hydraulic conductivity hysteresis is more obvious when the water head is lower. A new hydraulic conductivity-void ratio equation was derived by introducing the concept of effective void ratio and breakage index. The equation integrated the hydraulic conductivity equation with different particle sizes over a wide range of consolidation pressures.
The main goal was to evaluate effectiveness of a modified TSE sequence compared with DIR (double inversion recovery) sequence in acquisition of fast flow brain vessel images using signal void effect. 32 healthy volunteers (10 men and 22 women; mean age of 31 years; ranging between 28-43 years) who underwent black blood DIR sequence (group A) and the modified TSE sequence (group B) were enrolled in our study. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) of the internal carotid arteries' lumen were compared in T1 and T2 weighted images for both group A and B. The images obtained from group B showed lower SNR values in internal carotid artery than the group A in both of the T1 and T2 weighted images (11.49% and 13.66% respectively). While the CNR values were higher in the group B than the group A in both of the T1 and T2 weighted images (8.69% and 7.55 % respectively). The qualitative score of all categories were not significantly different between the two groups. Furthermore approximately 49% of the total scan time was reduced from group B. Our study is to shorten the scanning time and minimize the inconveniences of the patients in acquisition of the black blood images of brain by using the signal void effect in the modified TSE technique while keeping the diagnostic value of the test.
The effect of bonding condition on tensile properties of joints diffusion bonded spheroidal graphite cast iron, FCD60 to Cr-Mo steel, SCM 440 was investigated. Diffusion bonding was performed with various temperatures, holding times, pressures and atmospheres. All tensile specimens were fractured at the bonding interface. The tensile strength and elongation was increased with increasing bonding temperature. Especially, tensile strength of joints bonded at 1123K was higher than that of a raw material, FCD60, and tensile strength of joints bonded at 1173K was equal to that of a raw material, SCM440, but elongation of all joints was lower than those of raw materials. There was little the effect of holding time on the tensile properties. In comparison with bonding atmosphere, the difference of tensile strength was not observed, but elongation of joint bonded at vacuum(6.7mPa and 67mPa) was higher than that of Ar gas. Higher the degee of vacuum, elongation increased. Tensile properties of diffusion bonds depended on microstructures of cast iron at the interface and void ratio. Microstructures of cast iron at interface changed with temperature, because decarburizing and interdiffusion at the interface occurs and transformation of austenite-1 ferrite + graphite occurs on the cooling process. The void ratio decreased with increasing temperature, especially, effected on the elongation.
Flow-induced voids during resin impregnation and poor fiber wetting give serious effects on the mechanical properties of composites in resin transfer molding process. In order to better understand the characteristics of resin flow and to investigate the mechanism of void formation, flow visualization experiment for the resin impregnation was carried out on plain weaving glass fiber mats using silicon oils with various viscosity values. The permeability and the capillary pressure for the fiber mats of different porosities were obtained by measuring the penetration length of the resin with time and with various injection pressure. At low porosity and low operating pressure, the capillary pressure played a significant role in impregnation process. Video-assisted microscopy was used in taking the magnified photograph of the flow front of the resin to investigate the effect of the capillary pressure on the void formation. The results showed that the voids were formed easily when the capillary pressure was relatively high. No voids were detected above the critical capillary number of 2.75$\times$$10^{-3}, and below the critical number the void content increased exponentially with decrease of the capillary number. The content of void formed was independent of the viscosity of the resin. For a given capillary number, the void content reduced with the lower porosity of the fiber mat.
In this study, a trapezoidal hollow ball is used, instead of a spherical hollow ball commonly used in void slab, to secure the high hollow ratio in the deck type void slab. The bending and shear performance was measured with consideration for the shape change of the hollow ball. And to confirm the effect of deck plate and truss wire on shear performance, experiments were performed depending on the installation directions of the one-way deck plate. As a result, the bending performance of the deck type void slab with a trapezoidal hollow ball was similar to that of the void slab with a spherical hollow ball. However, according to the data of shear strength examined, the contribution of shear performance enhancement of the truss wire had a more effect on the shear performance of deck type void slab, rather than the influence by changing of the shape of hollow ball. In the previous studies, the shear strength is reduced to about 60%, due to the reduction of the effective section of concrete by installation of hollow ball. But in this experiment, the maximum load of specimen, in which the deck was installed in horizontal direction, so expected to have no influence on the shear performance, was only reduced to about 87%, due to the truss framework of truss wire.
The formation mechanism of void defect which deteriorate composite's property is various according to each composite process. In this paper, void formation and growth mechanism is analyzed by thermal analysis and GC/MS. We made a vacuum chamber for observing pressure effect. Thermal analysis has been done in various condition. Elements of volatiles during resin curing were turned out by GC/MS. The most of volatiles of polyester were composed of styrene (over 80%) and a small quantity of toluene. In case epoxy resin, butyl glycidyl ether was the main element of volatiles (over 90%). We concluded that the original sites of void growth existed in resin and they were eliminated by vacuum and heating process. And the growth of void was influenced by water, diluents, solvent, and reactants in resin.
