  • 'Hwan So Dan(還少丹)' is Chinese patent medicine which has been used for shortage of vitality and asthenia in Korea. It consists of 14 kinds of powdered crude drugs. In powdered crude drugs, it is hard to identify each component by chemical analysis or morphological examination. However, the method of identification of powdered crude drugs has not been clearly established. For the identification of individual crude drugs in such powdery mixtures, microscopic method may advantageously be used as it requires only a small amount specimens. In this study, it is demonstrated that the microscopic method is very effective for the identification of 14 crude drug ingredients in Hwan So Dan.

  • Method of diagnosis in oriental medicine, the unbalance of the physiological function of the five viscers and six bowels of the human body is determined from time immemorial with the condition of blood circulation which is performed through blood vessels by the vitality of the heart. In oriental medicine, treatment is largely attempted by adjusting this unbalance. The analysis of pulse wave, which mainly measures the changes in blood flows, is to evaluate the shapes of a pulse wave rather than the quantitative changes like rates and strength of the pulse. This paper presents the development of Hardware System and Pulse Diagnosis Algorithm for automatic diagnosis of the pulse wave. This system makes the precise diagnosis and the objective recording possible.

  • In satellite spectra, Though the magnitude varies with intensity of sunstroke, dip angle of land so on, the shape is less deformed with these effects. from this point of view, we have developed a spectral shape-dependent analysis utilizing a normalization procedure by the spectral integral and applied it to Landsat/TM spectra. Inevitable topographic and atmospheric effects can be suppressed. The correction algorithm is very simple and timesaving and the suppression of topographic effects is especially effective. Normalized band 4 is almost linear to NDVI values, and is available to the vegetation index.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine cluster types according to the playfulness factors of young children and to predict the character strengths of young children which have an influence on the types of children's playfulness. Methods: Playfulness and character strength tests were administered to 237 young children. The playfulness groups were classified by cluster analysis and the logistic regression analysis. It was used to find the character strengths of young children that have a effect on the types of children's playfulness. Results: First, the children's playfulness groups were divided into a high playfulness group and a low playfulness group. Second, there was a significant difference in all character strengths according to the children's playfulness cluster, and the high playfulness group was statistically significantly high in all character strengths. Third, the children's character strengths influencing the high playfulness group were vitality and positivity, self-regulation, self-esteem, and sensibility. Conclusion/Implications: Based on these results, the necessity of supporting these character strengths was discussed in order to improve the playfulness of children in the education field.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze photoplethysmographic waveforms from pulse oximeter using raw data of red and infrared light and investigate the reference values of parameters (Height, Width50, Maximum slope, Minimum slope, Area) for evaluating pulpal blood flow in maxillary central incisors with normal pulp vitality in children. The study was performed in 30 pediatric patients, aged 7-16 years old, using pulse oximeter (MEKICS Co., Ltd, Korea) combined with a custom-made sensor. The raw data was obtained and recorded by custom-made software and analyzed by LabChart (v.7.3, ADInstruments, Germany) offline. In this study, we analyzed photoplethysmographic waveforms from pulse oximeter applied to maxillary central incisor for assessment of pulpal blood flow and suggested several reference values of young permanent maxillary central incisor with normal pulp. On average, the waveform of red light was higher, stiffer and wider than that of infrared light. Future studies about reference values for other normal teeth and the teeth with impaired pulp vitality are needed.

First, it was identified that the level of happiness, ego resilience, and job engagement of early childhood teachers were high. Secondly, happiness, ego resilience, and job engagement of early childhood teachers had a statistically significant correlation. Thirdly, the explanation power of happiness for ego resilience was 18% and self-acceptance, a subfactor of ego resilience, had an effect. Also, the explanation power of happiness for job engagement of early childhood teacher was vitality of 23%, and it was found to affect the subfactors of vitality of job engagement in the order of self-acceptance, positive personal relationship, and control over the environment. • This paper builds a system of indicators representing rural regional development level. Indicators were classified into two groups, that is, living environment indicator group and regional vitality indicator group. Living environment indicator group consists of four indicators including housing, road, water supply, and sewage system, while regional vitality indicator group consists of five indicators including regional economy, public finance, and demography. Real data of the year 2002 and 2006 were used to do the basic statistical analysis and estimate the suitable statistical distributions for each indicator. Data were applied for the three city/county type, general city, urban-rural combined city, and county. General cities have the strongest urbanization tendency among the three types, while counties have the weakest tendency. General cities turned out to be superior in housing condition, road density, water supply system and sewage system. Indicators of employment and local finance showed the highest levels in counties. The results of this analysis are expected to provide local governments with the appropriate reference for their rural regional development policy.
