Changes of Blood Chemical Values and Vit. E Concentration in Calves Born from Hanwoo Dams Administrated Se and Vit. E at Late Pregnancying Periods (임신말기에 Se과 Vit. E 투여 후 태어난 한우 송아지의 혈액성분과 Vit. E 농도의 변화)

  • The objective of this study were to investigate the effects of Se and Vit. E administration on blood chemical values and Vit. E concentrations of serum in calves born from Hanwoo dams injected Se and Vit. E at late pregnancying periods. The effects of Se and Vit. E administration of blood chemical values in calves born from Hanwoo dams injected Se and Vit. E at the last month of pregnancying periods were examined. In albumin concentration of blood, the Vit. E 2000IU group were slightly higher than other groups and the cholesterol concentrations were also higher in Vit. E 15001u group than other groups. But, another components examined of blood chemical values were not significantly different in all experimental groups. The blood chemical values in calves born from Hanwoo dams administrated Se and Vit. E at two months before parturition were examined. However, there were not significantly different in all experimental groups in concentrations of albumin, cholesterol, BUN, creatinine, glucose, inorganic phosphorous, calcium, total protein and triglycerides. The concentrations of serum Vit. E in calves born from Hanwoo dams administrated Se and Vit. E at 30 and 15 days before parturition were examined. The concentrations of Vit. E in serum were higher in treatment groups than in control group(P>0.05). The concentrations of serum Vit. E in calves born from Hanwoo dams administrated Se and Vit. E at 60 days before parturition were examined, the concentrations of Vit. E in serum were slightly higher in groups administrated than in control group(P>0.05), but there were not significantly difference in all experimental groups.

  • To identify an antioxidant system, Se and Vit. E were administered into Hanwoo young sire and the effects of administration on blood components(Se, Vit. E, chemical values, estradiol-17 $\beta$, testosterone) were examined. The 16 heads ranging from twenty to thirty two months of age were randomly assigned to control group, Se-administered group(Se-group), Vit. E-administered group(Vit. E-group) and Se and Vit. E administered group(Se and Vit. E-group). Each reagent (Se : 0.1 mg, Vit. E . 1,500IU, Se+vit. E : 0.1 mg+1,500IU per kg of body weight, respectively) administered 3 times every 30days by intramuscular injection. Se concentration in serum was higher in Se-group and Se and Vit. E-group than in control group and Se and Vit. E-group also was higher than Vit. E-group(p<0.05). Although all Se-, Vit. E-administered groups were a little higher than control group, the injection of Se and Vit. E were not significant effect on Vit. E concentration in serum(p>0.05). All groups showed significant variance by periods, but there were not significantly different among groups in blood chemical values. The estradiol-17 $\beta$ concentrations of all Se-, Vit. E-administered groups were a little higher than those of control group, but there were not significant(p>0.05). There have no significant difference among groups in testosterone concentration. These results indicate that the administration of Se, Se + Vit. E increase Se concentration in Hanwoo young bull.

Effects of Dietary Vitamin E and Selenium Supplementation on Meat Color Stability of Hanwoo(Korean Native Cattle) Bull Beef during Retail Display (Vitamin E와 Selenium의 급여가 비거세우육의 진열저장중 육색 안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of dietary vitamin E and selenium(Se) supplementation on meat color stability in M. Longissimus of Hanwoo(Korean native cattle) bull beef during retail display(5$^{\circ}C$, 1,200 lux) were investigated. Experimental groups were divided into control(Vit E 27 IU/head/day, Se 0.09 mg/head/day), Vit E (2,500 IU/head/day), Se(20 mg/head/day), Vit E+Se(Vit E 2,500 IU/head/day, Se 20 mg/head/day) groups. CIE a*(redness), chroma(C*) values, oxymyoglobin(%) and R630-R580 were significantly (p<0.05) decreased among the 4 treatment groups during retail display, in particular, those values decreased more rapidly in the control group. The metmyoglobin (%) of 0 day(before storage) was not significantly (p<0.05) different among the 4 treatment groups. However, the rate of metmyoglobin accumulation during storage increased more rapidly in the control group. Therefore, discoloration in the control group was more accelerated compared to the other groups. TBARS(thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) which represent lipid rancidity was significantly(p<0.05) lower in Se and Vit E+Se groups than in the control and Vit E groups. Reducing ability of 0 day(before storage) was significantly lower in the control group than in the other groups, and it decreased more rapidly in the control group after 3 days of storage. Consequently, Se-supplemented groups(Se and Vit E+Se groups) were more resistant to lipid oxidation than were the control and Vit E groups. The stability of meat color and myoglobin forms(%) were significantly (p<0.05) higher in Vit E, Se and Vit E+Se groups than in the control group, but there were no difference among Vit E, Se and Vit E+Se groups.

  • To determine the preventive effects of selenium and/or vitamin E on placenta retention in Holstein dairy cows. The cows were divided six groups ; control, Se, vit.E 1x, vit.E 3x, Se + vit./E 1x and Se + vit.E 3x in Cooong Nam province. 50mg of Se as sodium selenite and 700 IU of vit. E as dl-${\alpha}$ tocopherol acetate were injected 21 day perior to expected calving date, and 700 IU vit.E was injected 3 times at 21, 14 and 7 days perior to expected calving date in vit.E 3x groups. The cows which did not expelled their placenta until 12 hours post-parturient were termed as cow of placenta retention. The i.m. injection of a single dose of selenium and vit.E has significantly(P<0.05) affected the incidence of retained placenta by 7.0% versus 25.6% of controls, but a single injection of selenium or vit.E and a combination of selenium 1x and vit.E 3x has not significantly affected. But they affected neiher subsequent reproductive performances nor milk yields.

The Effects of Vitamin E and C on Serum Cholesterol and Antioxidative enzyme in ovariectomized rat (난소 절제 흰쥐의 혈청 콜레스테롤 및 항산화효소에 미치는 비타민 E와 비타민 C의 효과)

  • In order to observe the bioactivity of ovariectomized rats, ovariectomized group (Ovx), nonovariectomized group (Sham), ovariectomized Vitamin C-treat group (Ovx+Vit C), ovariectomized Vitamin E-treat group (Ovx+Vit E) and ovariectomized Vitamin C+Vitamin E-treat group(Ovx+Vit C+E) were made. Lipidperoxides of liver and kidney, serum total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were investigate as follows. Lipidperoxides of liver and kidney in Ovx group were 1.78 times and 1.61 times increased compared to Sham group respectively. But, they were significantly decreased in Ovx+Vit C group, Ovx+Vit E group, Ovx+Vit C+E group compared to Ovx group. Serum total cholesterol in Ovx group was increased 2.57 times compared to Sham group. Injections of each substance such as ascorbate, tocopherol, mixture (C+E) make data of Cholesterol become low. When especially Vit C is injected, the data of cholesterol lowed by about 94%. Serum HDL-cholesterol in Ovx group decreased 36.7% compared to Sham group. And as the result of the measurement of SOD, Catalase, and GPx which are antioxidant enzyme, SOD and Catalase activities in Ovx group much higher than in Sham group. Based on the results, it is supposed that more produced free radicals increased antioxidant enzyme. And it is also thought that vitamin can inhibit aging by reducing antioxidant enzyme.

  • 본 연구는 Se과 Vit. E 투여수준이 한우 종빈우 번식효율에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위하여, 한우 종빈우의 임신말기에 적정량의 Se와 Vit .E를 투여하여, 종빈우의 혈액화학치 변화 및 혈중 Vit. E 농도변화를 규명하였다. 1. 분만 1개월 전 Se 과 Vit. E 투여가 한우 종빈우의 혈액성분에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과, 평균 혈중 albumin 과 calcium 함량은 각각 투여구가 대조구보다 유의적으로 높았으며 (P<0.05), 평균 혈중 IP 함량은 각각 Se 과 Vit. E 혼합투여구가 여타구보다 높은 성적을 나타냈다 (P<0.05). 그러나 평균 혈중 BUN, creatinine, glucose, cholesterol 및 triglycerides 의 함량은 처리구간 유의적인 차이가 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 2. 분만 2개월 전 Se과 Vit. E 투여가 한우 종빈우의 혈액성분에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과, 혈중 평균 albumin, BUN, cholesterol, creatinine, glucose, IP, TP, triglycerides 및 Ca 함량은 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 3. 한우 종빈우의 분만 l 개월전 Se 및 Vit. E 투여가 한우 종빈우의 혈중 Vit. E 농도에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과, 평균 혈중 Vit. E 농도는 투여구가 대조구보다 다소 높은 농도를 나타냈으나, 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 4. 한우 종빈우에서 분만 2 개월전 Se 및 Vit. E 투여가 혈중 Vit. E 농도에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과, 평균 혈중 Vit.   • 본 실험은 한우 종빈우의 임신말기에 Se과 Vit. E 투여가 종빈우의 분만 후 번식기능에 미치는 요인을 검토하였고, 임신말기 Se과 Vit. E 를 투여한 한우 종빈우에서 태어난 송아지의 발육능력을 조사하고, 혈액화학치와 혈중 Vit. E 농도에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 1. 분만 l 개월전 Se과 Vit E 을 투여한 한우 종빈우에서 태어난 송아지의 발육성적을 조사한 결과, 생시체중은 투여구가 대조구보다 높은 성적을 나타냈다 (P<0.05). 또한 이유시 체중과 일당증체량도 투여구가 대조구 보다 다소 높은 성적을 나타냈으나 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 한편 종빈우의 번식능력을 조사한 결과, 투여구가 대조구보다 초발정이 빨리 도래하였고, 수태 당 인공수정 횟수도 적었으나, 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 2. Se과 Vit. E를 분만 2 개월전 4 회 투여한 한우 종빈우로부터 태어난 송아지의 발육성적을 조사한 결과, 생시체중, 이유시체중 및 일당증체량은 투여구가 대조구보다 높은 성적을 나타냈으나, 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 한편, 한우 종빈우의 번식능력을 조사한 결과, 분만 후 초발정은 투여구가 대조구보다 초발정 발현이 빨랐으며 수태 당 인공수정 횟수는 투여구가 대조구에 비해 적었으나 처리구간 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다 (P>0.05). 3. Se과 Vit. E를 분만 1개월전 2 회 투여한 한우 종빈우에서 태어난 송아지의 혈액성분에 미치는 영향을 검토한 결과, 평균 혈중 albumin 은 Vit. E 2000IU 투여구가 여타구보다 높은 성적을 나타냈으며 (P<0.05), 평균 혈중 cholesterol이 함량 또한 Vit. Effects of selenium and vitamin E administration on semen characteristics in Hanwoo young bulls (한우 후보종모우에 selenium과 vitamin E 투여가 정액성상에 미치는 영향)

  • To improve the semen production, the selenium(Se) and vitamin E(Vit. E) were administrated into Hanwoo young sire for intensification an antioxidant system and the taurine were supplemented into semen extender for improving the semen characteristics. The 16 heads ranging from twenty to thirty two months of age were randomly assigned to control group, Se-admistrated group(Se-group), Vit. E-administrated group(Vit. E-Group) and Se and Vit. E administrated group(Se and Vit. E-group). Se and Vit. E dministrated 3 times every 30 days by intramuscular injection. The administration of Se, Vit. E, and Se and Vit. E didn't affect on semen volume, sperm concentration, and total sperm number among all groups(p>0.05). Adiministration of Se improved sperm motility and viability. Motility of Se-group and control were 26.01% and 19.20%, respectively(p<0.05). Viability of Se-group(47.07%) was higher than control group(35.73%), Vit. E group(36.55%)(p<0.05). The administration of Se and Vit. E didn't affect sperm capacitation and acrosome reaction. The 100mM taurine supplement into semen extender increased the motility of frozen/thawed semen in the Vit. E-group(p<0.05) and had a beneficial effects on decreasing abnormality of frozen/thawed semen in all groups(p<0.05). These results indicate that Se administration improve sperm motility and viability, and the taurine supplement into semen extender decrease abnormality in Hanwoo young sire.

  • The present study was designed to examine the effects of selenium(Se), vitamin E(Vit. E) and recombinant Bovine Somatotropin(rBST) administration on the selenium and vitamin E concentrations of blood in Hanwoo sires Hanwoo sires were randomly assigned to five groups; 1. control, 2. rBST, 0.09mg/kg body weight (BW) 3. Vit E, 1,500IU/kg BW, 4. Se 0.lmg/kg BW, 5. Vit E, 1.500IU plus Se 0.1mg/kg BW. rBST, Vit. E and Se for each experimental group were given 6 times at 15 days interval by intramuscular injection. Blood samples were collected 10 times for experimental periods, separated the serum by centrifugation, and stored at -7$0^{\circ}C$. Se and Vito E concentrations in blood were measured by fluorophotometer and HPLC. Se concentrations of blood in control, rBST, Vito E, Se and Se plus Vito E groups were 64.55, 65.50, 68.15, 73.11 and 74.09 ppb/$m\ell$, respectively. Se concentration in Vit. E plus Se group was significantly higher than in control and rBST groups (P<0.05), but Vito E group was not significantly different in control and rBST groups(P>0.05). The Vit. E concentrations of blood in control, rBST, Vit. E, Se and Se plus Vit. E groups were 2.27, 2.32, 2.80, 2.58 and 2.75 ppm/$m\ell$, respectively. Vit. E and Vit. E plus Se groups were slightly higher than those of any other groups, but not significantly difference in 외 I experimental groups(P<0.05). These results indicate that Se and Vit. E concentrations of blood were slightly increased with the injection of Se and Vit. E in Hanwoo sires.

The Effects of Dietary Sulfur and Vitamin E Supplementation on the Quality of Beef from the Longissimus Muscle of Hanwoo Bulls

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary sulfur (S) and vitamin E (Vit E) supplementation on the quality of beef from longissimus muscle of Hanwoo bulls. Eleven, 29 months-aged Hanwoo bulls were randomly divided into three feed supplementation groups (S (n = 4), Vit E (n = 4) and S+Vit E (n = 3)). S was given as much as 12 g/head/d and Vit E was given as much as 1,200 IU/head/d; both supplements were given for 3 months prior to slaughter. At 24 h post-slaughter, the carcasses were weighed and evaluated by official grader for carcass traits. At 48 h post-slaughter, the M. longissimus from each carcass was collected and stored at $4{\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. There were no significant differences in yield and quality grades of carcass and proximate composition, physical properties and aroma pattern of meat among all groups. At 5 days of storage, the TBARS value of meat from cattle with S+Vit E supplementation was significantly lower (p<0.05) than other groups; and at 10 days of storage, the TBARS value of meat from cattle with Vit E and S+Vit E supplementations was significantly lower (p<0.05) than from cattle with S supplementation. At 5 days of storage, MetMb concentration of meat from cattle with S+Vit E supplementation was significantly lower (p<0.05) than from cattle with Vit E supplementation; and at 10 days of storage, MetMb concentration of meat from cattle with S+Vit E supplementation was significantly lower (p<0.05) than from other groups. At 10 days of storage, the redness value of meat from cattle with S supplementation was significantly higher (p<0.05) than from cattle with Vit E supplementation and the hue-angle value of meat from cattle with S and S+Vit E supplementations was significantly lower (p<0.05) than from cattle with Vit E supplementation. Dietary Vit E supplementation had a better effect on lipid stability whereas dietary S supplementation had a better effect on OxyMb stability. The dietary combination of S and Vit E created the highest protection for beef from myoglobin oxidation and thus improved the color stability of meat.
