  • Animation is completed in accordance with the original planning of visual direction in the process of post-production. Especially, a variety of visualization skills to meet the planning idea are directed in editing and compositing processes such as rendering and shading in the production of 3D animation. Therefore, the studies how to implement these visual effects have been conducted since the emergence of the animation. The rendering method which appears in the recent animations so often is the effect of 2D animation style although it is applied by 3D technique. 3D animation can be classified as two types including photo realistic and non-photo realistic renderings. The former is to render the images realistically while the latter is to highlight the formative effect with analogue style free from the realism of the photographs. Visual effect of 2D animation is non-realistic, that is, non-photo realistic rendering. The animations produced by this method have the depth of 3D animation expression in terms of space and animating, and can direct the viewer-friendly analogue style visuals, which are widely used as a post-production effect. Hence in this study, we selected a short animation, 'Paperman,' one of Disney's animations, produced by cartoon rendering method which belongs to the class of non-photo rendering technique in 3D graphics, as our subject. We analyzed their techniques and visual effects of the scenes expressed by cartoon rendering method so as to understand whether they meet the original direction idea with the composition work. In addition, we expect further developments of post-production methods, exceeding the limit of graphic expression in alignment with the trend that has become more various in the types and genres of non-photo rendering.

  • Modern graphic design is creating a new area of graphic design due to the development of computer technology as it changes the existing world of graphic design with a variety of advanced style of image. It is true, however, that the basic principles and images in the modern design are influenced by the visual principles and methods elaborated and changed by the numerous creative works that is well representing the visual features of graphic design trends from the early 20th century to the mid century. The style of graphic design at the time which is generally referred to as 'modern graphic design' went through Pictorial modernism, Constructivism, De Stijl, Bauhaus after the beginning of 20C design, Art Noueau. It spread over the world in the ear of Swiss graphic design and New York graphic design that create the basic principles and styles in modern graphic design. This study examines visual features and flow of graphic design from the early years in the 20th century to the middle of the century, the foundation ear of principles in the modern graphic design. It will give a systematic and fundamental understanding of graphic design and visual features of it while it will be in a research process to create a new graphic style.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify middle school students' mental models on plate tectonics and to compare the mental models of verbal-learning-style students with those of visual-learning-style students. 94 student participants in 9th grade were requested to draw and explain three topics; generation of magma, the formation of the mountain range and the interior of the Earth. The criterions for analyzing the mental models are derived from the data of the drawing task. The research results were as follows: The mental models on the generation of magma were classified as 'unstable model,' 'partial casual model,' 'causal model,' and 'conceptual model.' On the other hand, the mental models on the interior of the Earth were classified as 'static unstable model,' 'dynamic unstable model,' and 'conceptual model.' Students holding 'unstable model' were unable to relate the plate collision and the magma generation. They showed a variety of alternative conceptions of study areas, such as 'magma is generated from the core' and 'the mountain is formed by rising of the plates themselves.' Also, visual-learning-style students showed higher proportion of conceptual models and lower proportion of unstable mental models than verbal-learning-style students on three topics. The findings revealed that the students tend to have different concepts on the plate tectonics depending on their learning style.

Second, the colors mainly used were silver, black and white, bright color, and off-color of computer animation to present future-oriented feeling. Third, the general styles used were fit and slim, simple and liner, dualistic style to express future s image. In conclusion, the phenomena of Cyberpunk in fashion were expressed in material, color and style of fashion. Cyberpunk fashion was evident in T-shirts, sweaters, jackets, or as items of ornamentation such as pins, pendants, belts, and earrings, etc.

  • Non-photorealistic Rendering(NPR) is a method that can be used to simulate a wide range of materials used in visual arts. Currently, there is lack of availability for oriental-style rendering in 3D animation in contrast to the commonly available western-style rendering. In this paper, we combine the wash drawing technique and NPR to create an oriental-style shader for 3D animation. Our approach makes use of the Maya Embeded Language(MEL) to implement this new technique.

The techniques was summarrized 'conversing-scape(聚景)', 'surround-scape', 'multiland-scape(多景)', 'far-off-scape(遠景)', and 'emptiness of Lu$.$ Chong or landscape'. The results were proved through the analysis of visual boundary, locational pattern and 'Palkyeong(eight-sceneries)'.

  • The various colors are used in our whole life as much as the modern society is called "the age of colors". The colors in the hair style express the individual taste, personality and the psychological condition, and play an important role as a visual language. The western people, who has thought that the blonde hair is a symbol of beautiful woman from the ancient times, has tried to get the blonde hair continuously even though they had not the technique of hair dyeing. On the other hand, the korean people whose hair color is usually dark brown or black, enjoy a various hair color due to the development of dyeing and decoloration technique.
