True color images display colors similar to natural colors. This has the advantage that it is possible to monitor rapidly the complex earth atmosphere phenomenon and the change of the surface type. Currently, various organizations are producing true color images. In Korea, it is necessary to produce true color images by replacing generations with next generation weather satellites. Therefore, in this study, visual enhancement for true color image production was performed using Top of Atmosphere (TOA) data of Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) sensor mounted on Himawari-8 satellite. In order to improve the visualization, we performed two methods of Nonlinear enhancement and Histogram equalization. As a result, Histogram equalization showed a strong bluish image in the region over $70^{\circ}$ Solar Zenith Angle (SZA) compared to the Nonlinear enhancement and nonlinear enhancement technique showed a reddish vegetation area.
Drone mapping systems can be applied to many fields such as disaster damage investigation, environmental monitoring, and construction process monitoring. To integrate individual sensors attached to a drone, it was essential to undergo complicated procedures including time synchronization. Recently, a variety of composite sensors are released which consist of visual sensors and GPS/INS. Composite sensors integrate multi-sensory data internally, and they provide geotagged image files to users. Therefore, to use composite sensors in drone mapping systems, mapping accuracies from composite sensors should be examined. In this study, we analyzed the mapping accuracies of a composite sensor, focusing on the data acquisition area and pre-calibration effect. In the first experiment, we analyzed how mapping accuracy varies with the number of ground control points. When 2 GCPs were used for mapping, the total RMSE has been reduced by 40 cm from more than 1 m to about 60 cm. In the second experiment, we assessed mapping accuracies based on whether pre-calibration is conducted or not. Using a few ground control points showed the pre-calibration does not affect mapping accuracies. The formation of weak geometry of the image sequences has resulted that pre-calibration can be essential to decrease possible mapping errors. In the absence of ground control points, pre-calibration also can improve mapping errors. Based on this study, we expect future drone mapping systems using composite sensors will contribute to streamlining a survey and calibration process depending on the data acquisition circumstances.
Mean annual soil loss was calculated and critical soil erosion areas were identified for the Congaree River Basin in South Carolina, USA using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model. In the RUSLE model, the mean annual soil loss (A) can be calculated by multiplying rainfall-runoff erosivity (R), soil erodibility (K), slope length and steepness (LS), crop-management (C), and support practice (P) factors. The critical soil erosion areas can be identified as the areas with soil loss amounts (A) greater than the soil loss tolerance (T) factor More than 10% of the total area was identified as a critical soil erosion area. Among seven subwatersheds within the Congaree River Basin, the urban areas of the Congaree Creek and the Gills Creek subwatersheds as well as the agricultural area of the Cedar Creek subwatershed appeared to be exposed to the risk of severe soil loss. As a prototype model for examining future effect of human and/or nature-induced changes on soil erosion, the RUSLE model customized for the area was embedded into ESRI ArcGIS ArcMap 9.0 using Visual Basic for Applications. Using the embedded model, users can modify C, LS, and P-factor values for each subwatershed by changing conditions such as land cover, canopy type, ground cover type, slope, type of agriculture, and agricultural practice types. The result mean annual soil loss and critical soil erosion areas can be compared to the ones with existing conditions and used for further soil loss management for the area.

The rapid growth of aerial survey and remote sensing technology has enabled the rapid acquisition of very large amounts of geographic data, which should be analyzed using real-time visualization technology. The level of detail(LOD) algorithm is one of the most important elements for realizing real-time visualization. We chose the triangulated irregular network (TIN) method to generate normalized digital elevation model(DEM) data. First, we generated TIN data using contour lines obtained from a two-dimensional(2D) digital map and created a 2D grid array fitting the size of the area. Then, we generated normalized DEM data by calculating the intersection points between the TIN data and the points on the 2D grid array. We used constrained Delaunay triangulation(CDT) and ray-triangle intersection algorithms to calculate the intersection points between the TIN data and the points on the 2D grid array in each step. In addition, we simulated a three-dimensional(3D) terrain model based on normalized DEM data with real-time visualization using a Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 program in the DirectX API library and a quad-tree LOD algorithm.
Recently, there have been many attempts to develop BCI (brain computer interface) based on EEG (electroencephalogram). Measurement and analysis of EEG evoked by particular stimulation is important for the design of brain wave pattern and interface of BCI. The purpose of this study is to develop a general-purpose system that measures subject's reaction time after audio-visual stimulation which can work together with any other biosignal measurement systems. The entire system is divided into four modules, which are stimulation signal generation, reaction time measurement, evoked potential measurement and synchronization. Stimulation signal generation module was implemented by means of Flash. Measurement of the reaction time (the period between the answer request and the subject reaction) was achieved by self-made microcontroller system. EEG measurement was performed using the ready-made hardware and software without any modification. Synchronization of all modules was achieved by, first, the black-and-white signals on the stimulation screen synchronized with the problem presentation and the answer request, second, the photodetectors sensing the signals. The proposed method offers easy design of purpose-specific system only by adding simple modules (reaction time measurement, synchronization) to the ready-made stimulation and EEG system, and therefore, it is expected to accelerate the researches requiring the measurement of evoked response and reaction time.

This paper focuses on three-dimensional measurement system of micro balls on micro Ball-Grid-Array(BGA) packages in-line. Most of visual inspection system still suffers from sophisticate reflection characteristics of micro balls. For accurate shape measurement of them, a specially designed visual sensor system is proposed under the sensing principle of phase shifting moire interferometry. The system consists of a pattern projection system with four projection subsystems and an imaging system. In the projection system, four subsystems have spatially different projection directions to make target objects experience the pattern illuminations with different incident directions. For the phase shifting, each grating pattern of subsystem is regularly moved by PZT actuator. To remove specular noise and shadow area of BGA balls efficiently, a compact multiple-pattern projection and imaging system is implemented and tested. Especially, a sensor fusion algorithm to integrate four information sets, acquired from multiple projections, into one is proposed with the basis of Bayesian sensor fusion theory. To see how the proposed system works, a series of experiments is performed and the results are analyzed in detail.
With the wide usage of LiDAR data and high-resolution satellite image, 3D modeling of buildings in urban areas has become an important research topic in the photogrammetry and computer vision field for many years. However the previous modeling has its limitations of merely texturing the image to the DSM surface of the study area and does not represent the relief of building surfaces. This study is focused on presenting a system of realistic 3D building modeling from consecutive stereo image sequences using digital camera. Generally when acquiring images through camera, various parameters such as zooming, focus, and attitude are necessary to extract accurate results, which in certain cases, some parameters have to be rectified. It is, however, not always possible or practical to precisely estimate or rectify the information of camera positions or attitudes. In this research, we constructed the collinearity condition of stereo images through extracting the distinctive points from stereo image sequence. In addition, we executed image matching with Graph Cut method, which has a very high accuracy. This system successfully performed the realistic modeling of building with a good visual quality. From the study, we concluded that 3D building modeling of city area could be acquired more realistically.

Recently as large sized urban development and the city ward drifting of population are caused, the urban surface temperature is raised very seriously and rapidly. These artificial developments have destroyed the inner and outer landscapes such as topography and have changed complex local climate such as a sudden rise in temperature, the change of wind field and air pollution. In order to clarify this problem visually, the studies on extracting the thermal infrared and the characteristic analysis of local climate in urban area had been performed by using the sixth band of Landsat TM and ETM+. However, there is a need to alternate Landsat TM and ETM+ because these satellite images are not applied any more. Therefore, in this paper it is proposed to use 2 Aster image (2004.4.17 daily 2b03, 2004.10.10 night 2b03) of EOS AM and to extract the surface temperature. Also, the pattern of surface temperature in urban area and the application possibility in local climate study are proposed by verifying the correlation with A WS data. Also, IKONOS image was used to figure out the artificial development area in visual.
In post-industrial society, the ability to feel and express emotion is becoming ever more important. In diverse areas of our lives such as economic, social, political and cultural activities, we are witnessing an increased application of the emotional dimension. This paper deals with the human experiences in emotional designs. Literature reviews and case analyses have been used as the main research methods. I first examine the aspects of emotional experience in designs, and then go on to analyze the components of each aspect. Emotional experience in designs has three basic aspects : (a) initially there exist user's emotional needs (b) then these emotions are delivered through design, (c) finally, emotions expressed in designs are experienced by the user. Followings are the related components for each aspect : (a) Physiological, psychological, social and cultural factors cause one to feel emotional needs. (b) Emotion is delivered either through visual symbols, experience, interaction and participation. (c) Emotion is experienced by sensing, feeling, thinking, acting and relating.

In remote sensing, it has been a difficult task to obtain a multispectral image with high spatial resolution because of the technical limitation of satellite sensors. In order to solve these problems, various pansharpening algorithms have been tried and proposed. However, most pansharpened images created by various approaches tend to distort the spectral characteristics of the original multispectral image or decrease the visual sharpness of the panchromatic image. To minimize the spectral distortion of pansharpened image while preserving spatial information of the panchromatic image, a hybrid pansharpening algorithm based on the spatial correlation was proposed. In this paper, we analyzed the spatial and spectral distortion of the hybrid pansharpened images generated by the various spatial correlation methods. In the experiments, we proved that the method by using Laplacian filtering was more efficient than other high frequency extraction algorithms in the viewpoint of spectral distortion and spatial sharpness.
