Online Monitoring of Ship Block Construction Equipment Based on the Internet of Things and Public Cloud: Take the Intelligent Tire Frame as an Example

  • In view of the problems of insufficient data collection and processing capability of multi-source heterogeneous equipment, and low visibility of equipment status at the ship block construction site. A data collection method for ship block construction equipment based on wireless sensor network (WSN) technology and a data processing method based on edge computing were proposed. Based on the Browser/Server (B/S) architecture and the OneNET platform, an online monitoring system for ship block construction equipment was designed and developed, which realized the visual online monitoring and management of the ship block construction equipment status. Not only that, the feasibility and reliability of the monitoring system were verified by using the intelligent tire frame system as the application object. The research of this project can lay the foundation for the ship block construction equipment management and the ship block intelligent construction, and ultimately improve the quality and efficiency of ship block construction.

Serratus Anterior Plane (SAP) Block Used for Thoracotomy Analgesia: A Case Report

  • Thoracotomy is a surgical technique used to reach the thoracic cavity. Management of pain due to thoracotomy is important in order to protect the operative respiratory reserves and decrease complications. For thoracotomy pain, blocks (such as thoracic epidural, paravertebral, etc.) and pleural catheterization and intravenous drugs (such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs], and opioids, etc., can be used. We performed a serratus anterior plane (SAP) block followed by catheterization for thoracotomy pain. We used 20 ml 0.25% bupivacaine for analgesia in a patient who underwent wedge resection for a lung malignancy. We provided analgesia for a period of close to seven hours for the patient, whose postoperative VAS (visual analog scale) scores were recorded. We believe that an SAP block is effective and efficient for the management of pain after thoracotomy.

Progressive Image Transmission using LOT/CVQ with HVS Weighting (HVS가중치를 갖는 LOT/CVQ를 이용한 점진적 영상 전송)

  • A progressive image transmission (PIT) scheme based on the classified transform vector quantization (CVQ) technique using the lapped orthogonal transform (LOT) and human visual system (HVS) weighting is proposed in this paper. Conventional block transform coding of images using DCT produces in general undesirable block-artifacts at low bit rates. In this paper, image blocks are transformed using the LOT and classified into four classes based on their structural properties and further divided adaptively into subvectors depending on the LOT coefficient statistics with HVS weighting to improve the reconstructed image quality by adaptive bit allocation. The subvectors are vector quantized and transmitted progressively. Coding tests using computer simulations show that the LOT/CVQ based PIT of images is a effective coding scheme. The results are also compared with those obtained using PIT/DCTVQ. The LOT/CVQ based PIT reduces the block-artifacts significantly.

Block Based Efficient JPEG Encoding Algorithm for HDR Images (블록별 양자화를 이용한 HDR 영상의 효율적인 JPEG 압축 기법)

  • An efficient block based two-layer JPEG encoding algorithm is proposed to compress high dynamic range (HDR) images in this work. The proposed algorithm separates an input HDR image into a tone-mapped low dynamic range (LDR) image and a ratio image, which represents the quotients of the original HDR pixels divided by the tone-mapped LDR pixels. Then, the tone-mapped LDR image is compressed using the standard JPEG scheme to preserve backward compatibility and the ratio image is encoded to minimize a cost function that models the perception of each block with different quantization parameters in the human visual system (HVS). Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides better performance than the conventional method, which encodes the ratio image without any prior information of blocks.

  • Defense Acquisition Program Administration's weapon system software development and management guideline specifies the criteria of software reliability tests including static and dynamic tests mainly on C/C++ languages. Recently, Defense Acquisition Program Administration expanded the scope of software reliability test for the various languages including C#, java etc. but specific criteria for them are not established. This study suggests the reliability test procedures and standards on C# programming software in weapon system. For the static test, considering the nature of the C# which depends on .NET framework, this paper introduces applying coding rules recommended by Microsoft Corp. Visual Studio 2012. Block coverage provided by Visual Studio is applied on dynamic tests and the achievement objectives for block coverage according to the software levels(A, B, C) are suggested. Also, the software reliability test procedures and standards proposed by this paper are properly verified through the case study. The result of this study can be used for establishing the specific criteria of the software reliability test for C# programming software in weapon system.

  • For efficient transmission of 3DTV video signals, it is necessary to eliminate the inherent redundancy between the stereo image pairs. Though disparity estimation provides a powerful tool for eliminating the redundancy, it is very time consuming. This paper presents a novel disparity estimation scheme based on the human visual property. The disparity vectors of image blocks spatially adjacent to the current block are used as initial guesses fur the disparity vector of the current block. In addition, mixed-resolution coding is applied to reduce the computational complexity of disparity estimation. Through computer simulations on a stereoscopic sequence we show that the proposed method gives rise .to visually pleasing results with much reduced computational complexity.

  • Recently, the Image compression methods in cooperation with Human Visual System characteristics are being investigated lively. In this study, we propose a new block coding method using i) non-linearity of HVS in the noticeable differences, ii) spatial easting effects, and iii) HVS sensitivity curve according to spatial frequencies. For vector quantization, the third scheme was dole effective than existing ones. We have applied this method on chest images and the results have shown better subjective qualities.

  • A steganographic method using three directional data embedding for gray images is presented in this paper. Cover image is divided into non-overlapping $2\times2$ sub-blocks and the basis pixel is selected to calculate the three different values of each sub-block. Difference values are replaced by embedding the number of secret bits that is referenced by the range table. For the three pixel pairs in the sub-block, the optimal pixel adjustment is preceded to reduce the distortion of visual quality. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a good visual quality and high capacity.

An efficient frame rate up-conversion method with adaptive motion estimation and compensation for mobile projection displays

  • Recently, mobile video communication is getting more and more popular. Visual quality and computational complexity are primary factors affecting performance of video communication. Frame rate up-conversion (FRC) is necessary for achieving high visual quality in mobile projection displays. In this paper, a FRC method using motion compensation based on block matching algorithm (BMA) with adaptive block size is proposed. In order to improve the accuracy of the estimated motion vectors, the motion vector refinement technique is proposed. Experiment results indicate that the proposed technique exhibits better performance with lower hardware complexity compared to the conventional methods.

Motion-Compensated Frame Interpolation Using a Parabolic Motion Model and Adaptive Motion Vector Selection

  • We propose a motion-compensated frame interpolation method in which an accurate backward/forward motion vector pair (MVP) is estimated based on a parabolic motion model. A reliability measure for an MVP is also proposed to select the most reliable MVP for each interpolated block. The possibility of deformation of bidirectional corresponding blocks is estimated from the selected MVP. Then, each interpolated block is produced by combining corresponding blocks with the weights based on the possibility of deformation. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves PSNR performance by up to 2.8 dB as compared to conventional methods and achieves higher visual quality without annoying blockiness artifacts.
