This paper presents critical steps in building client/server application with UML and Visual Basic, which are derived from the implementation case of a typical order processing system. To begin with, we briefly review the software architecture, the diagrams and the object-oriened building process in the UML. In the inception phase, it is critical to define the project charter, to draw use case diagrams, and to construct a preliminary architecture of the application. In the elaboration phase, it is critical to identify classes to be displayed in the class diagram, to develop user interface prototypes for each use case, to construct sequence diagram for each use case, and finally to design an implementation architecture. Steps to construct implementation architecture are given. In the construction phase, it is critical to design both the database and components. Steps to design these components are described in detail. Additionally the way to create the Internet interface is suggested.

An integrated operation method of production control system for chemical-product job-shops is presented in this paper. A possible application of real-time control system is suggested to handle data from laboratory materials requirements to finished product shipment. A low cost intra-net is constructed to be used as the system network and applications are developed using Visual Basic. CGI programming is done to interface the applications with necessary databases.

As the construction environment has been changing all the times, the techniques for managing the construction projects have been improved accordingly. The schedule management technique, one of the construction management tools, has been evolved as well in order to be adaptable to new construction environment. Most of newly proposed scheduling techniques have been based on the Critical Path Method (CPM) that was proposed in 1956. The CPM is classified into two categories, Arrow Diagramming Method (ADM) and Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM). ADM is so good in the visual format but it cannot express the overlapping relationships between two consecutive activities. On the other hand, PDM can express the overlapping relationships but it is unsatisfactory in the visual format. Recently, as the construction environment becomes more complex and the role of schedule management becomes more and more important, the overlapping expression becomes one of critical factors for scheduling as well. Most of construction project participants prefer more comfortable visual format, however, the scheduling software based on the PDM cannot satisfy their basic requirement. Beeliner, new scheduling software based on the Beeline Diagramming Method (BDM) that was proposed in 2010, was developed in 2012, it can express more flexible overlapping relationships and has superior visual format as well. This paper presents major features and applications of Beeliner, and makes construction professionals understand new scheduling concept and its applications.

Nowadays as smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, smartphone applications are making people's life much more convenient than before. In the past, various forms of technology were developed to help visually impaired people. So the idea of how the prevalent smartphone applications could help the visually impaired to make their life better came into our mind. In this paper, we describe an application aiming at meeting the visually impaired people's basic needs in their daily life. Our application includes three basic functions, a new way of calling, date and time prompt, and emergency use.

Carlo H. Sequin, a computer scientist, became to know a sculpture of subtle space construction which was created by Brent Collins, a sculptor, and introduced it as 'Visual Mathematics' in a journal. Sequin who was able to deduce a basic logic of the construction, has developed a software which can be used for virtual modeling merely by substituting simple numerical values using a computer and supplied it to Collins. The present author who was exposed to their collaboration works through series of their papers published in the journal, Leonardo, introduces the Collins' sculptures and the author's modeling procedures of animation works both of which show many common things in visual characteristics and modeling expansion method. The author investigates the mathematical characteristics which is used as a basic motive of modeling and then supplied as a principal visual characteristics of a material. 'Modeling Development by Principle Expansion,' in which the expansion is developed on the base of space twist as for Collins whereas the space section as for the present author, is introduced in this study. With the same stream of the mutual reaction in 'arts, sciences and technology' which has been stressed with the development of sciences and technology, this modeling technology is suggested as a research theme which has a possiblity of various applications.

Holography provides a medium for creative visual experiences in space and scale. It has been firmly established as a tool for scientific and engineering studies. It could be creatively used in interior architecture and display as a practical device and as a form of art. Basic principles and features of holography are explained. Design of the holographic systems are illustrated in some interior architectural applications. It is believed that holographic elements can make a valuable contribution to interior architecture design by controlling light and creating new concepts of colour and space.
