The main objective of this study was to develop and evaluate a model for estimating pigs weight using computer vision for improving the management in Korean swine farms in Korea. This research was carried out in two steps: 1) to find a model that relates the projection area with the weight of a pig; 2) to implement the model in a computer vision system mainly consisted of a monochrome CCD camera, a frame grabber and a computer system for estimating the weight of pigs in a non-contact, real-time manner. The model was developed under an important assumption there were no observable genetic differences among the pigs. The main results were: 1) The relationship between the projection area and the weight of pigs was W = 0.0569 ${\times}$ A - 32.585($R^2$ = 0.953), where W is the weight in kg; A is the projection area of a pig in $\textrm{cm}^2$; 2) The model could estimate the weight of pigs with an error less than 3.5%.
This paper presents the development of estimation model and control method based on the new computer vision. This proposed control method is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of the rigid body in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model with six parameters is developed based on a model that generalizes known 4-axis scara robot kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. Based on the estimated parameters, depending on each camers the joint angle of robot is estimated by the iteration method. The method is tested experimentally in two ways, the estimation model test and a three-dimensional rigid body placement task. Three results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as assembly and welding.
This paper presents the development of real-time estimation and control details for a computer vision-based robot control method. This is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of these points in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model is developed based on a model that generalizes know 4-axis Scorbot manipulator kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. This model uses six uncertainty-of-view parameters estimated by the iteration method. The method is tested experimentally in two ways : First the validity of estimation model is tested by using the self-built test model. Second, the practicality of the presented control method is verified in performing 4-axis manipulator's assembly task. These results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as deburring and welding.
This study shows an alternative method for the determination of object's position, based on a computer vision method. This approach develops the vision system model to define the reciprocal relationship between the 3-D real space and 2-D image plane. The developed model involves the bilinear six-view parameters, which is estimated using the relationship between the camera space location and real coordinates of known position. Based on estimated parameters in independent cameras, the position of unknown object is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits data of unknown points in each of the 2-D image plane of cameras. This vision control methods the robust and reliable, which overcomes the difficulties of the conventional research such as precise calibration of the vision sensor, exact kinematic modeling of the robot, and correct knowledge of the relative positions and orientation of the robot and CCD camera. Finally, the developed vision control method is tested experimentally by performing determination of object position in the space using computer vision system. These results show the presented method is precise and compatible.
This paper presents three-dimensional robot task using the vision control method. A minimum of two cameras is required to place points on end dffectors of n degree-of-freedom manipulators relative to other bodies. This is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of these points in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model is developed based on a model that generalizes known three-axis manipulator kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. This model uses six uncertainty-of-view parameters estimated by the iteration method.
To overcome the drawbacks of the traditional contact-type sensor for structural displacement measurement, the vision-based technology with the aid of the digital image processing algorithm has received increasing concerns from the community of structural health monitoring (SHM). The advanced vision-based system has been widely used to measure the structural displacement of civil engineering structures due to its overwhelming merits of non-contact, long-distance, and high-resolution. However, seldom currently-available vision-based systems are capable of realizing the synchronous structural displacement measurement for multiple points on the investigated structure. In this paper, the method for vision-based multi-point structural displacement measurement is presented. A series of moving loading experiments on a scale arch bridge model are carried out to validate the accuracy and reliability of the vision-based system for multi-point structural displacement measurement. The structural displacements of five points on the bridge deck are measured by the vision-based system and compared with those obtained by the linear variable differential transformer (LVDT). The comparative study demonstrates that the vision-based system is deemed to be an effective and reliable means for multi-point structural displacement measurement.
We introduce an autonomous flying system using a model-helicopter. A feature of the helicopter is that autonomous flight is realized on the low-cost compact model-helicopter. Our helicopter system is divided into two parts. One is on the helicopter, and the other is on the land. The helicopter is loaded with a vision sensor and an electronic compass including a tilt sensor. The control system on the land monitors the helicopter movement and controls. We firstly introduce the configuration of our helicopter system with a vision sensor and an electronic compass. To determine the 3-D position and posture of helicopter, a technique of image recognition using a monocular image is described based on the idea of the sensor fusion of vision and electronic compass. Finally, we show an experiment result, which we obtained in the hovering. The result shows the effectiveness of our system in the compact model-helicopter.
Generally, reverse engineering means getting CAD data from unidentified shape using vision or 3D laser scanner system. In this paper, we studied unidentified model by machine vision based reverse engineering system to get information about in-processing model. Recently, vision technology is widely used in current factories, because it could inspect the in-process object easily, quickly, accurately. The following tasks were mainly investigated and implemented. We obtained more precise data by corning camera's distortion, compensating slit-beam error and revising acquired image. Much more, we made similar curves or surface with B-spline approximation for precision. Until now, there have been many case study of shape recognition. But it was uncompatible to apply to the field, because it had taken too many processing time and has frequent recognition failure. This paper propose recognition algorithm that prevent such errors and give applications to the field.
In this paper, we have proposed a new approach to the design of robot vision system to develop the technology for the automatic test and assembling of precision mechanical and electronic parts for the factory automation. In order to perform real time implementation of the automatic assembling tasks in the complex processes, we have developed an intelligent control algorithm based-on neural networks control theory to enhance the precise motion control. Implementing of the automatic test tasks has been performed by the real-time vision algorithm based-on TMS320C31 DSPs. It distinguishes correctly the difference between the acceptable and unacceptable defective item through pattern recognition of parts by the developed vision algorithm. Finally, the performance of proposed robot vision system has been illustrated by experiment for the similar model of fifth cell among the twelve cell for similar model of fifth cell among the twelve cell for automatic test and assemblig in S company.
