Purpose: This study evaluated the feasibility of using a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) method as a preprocessing tool for visible/near-infrared spectroscopy (VIS/NIRS) with a spectroscopic transmittance dataset for predicting the internal quality of cherry tomatoes. Methods: VIS/NIRS was used to acquire transmittance spectrum data, to which a DWT was applied to generate new variables in the wavelet domain, which replaced the original spectral signal for subsequent partial least squares (PLS) regression analysis and prediction modeling. The DWT concept and its importance are described with emphasis on the properties that make the DWT a suitable transform for analyzing spectroscopic data. Results: The $R^2$ values and root mean squared errors (RMSEs) of calibration and prediction models for the firmness, sugar content, and titratable acidity of cherry tomatoes obtained by applying the DWT to a PLS regression with a set of spectra showed more enhanced results than those of each model obtained from raw data and mean normalization preprocessing through PLS regression. Conclusions: The developed DWT-incorporated PLS models using the db5 wavelet base and selected approximation coefficients indicate their feasibility as good preprocessing tools by improving the prediction of firmness and titratable acidity for cherry tomatoes with respect to $R^2$ values and RMSEs.
Nanoparticles are known for their outstanding properties such as particle size, surface area, optical and electrical properties. These properties have significantly boasted their applications in various surface phenomena. In this work, calcium oxide nanoparticles were synthesized from periwinkle shells as an approach towards waste management through resource recovery. The sol gel method was used for the synthesis. The nanoparticles were characterized using X-Ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier Transformed Infra-Red Spectrophotometer (FTIR), Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and ultra violet visible spectrophotometer (UV-visible). While DLS and SEM underestimate the particle diameter, the BET analysis reveals surface area of 138.998 m2/g, pore volume = 0.167 m3/g and pore diameter of 2.47 nm. The nanoparticles were also employed as an adsorbent for the purification of dye (methyl orange) contaminated water. The adsorbent showed excellent removal efficiency (up to 97 %) for the dye through the mechanism of physical adsorption. The adsorption of the dye fitted the Langmuir and Temkin models. Analysis of FTIR spectrum after adsorption complemented with computational chemistry modelling to reveal the imine nitrogen group as the site for the adsorption of the dye unto the nanomaterials. The synthesized nanomaterials have an average particle size of 24 nm, showed a unique XRD peak and is thermally and mechanically stable within the investigated temperature range (30 to 70 ℃).

In order to quantitatively estimate the nonlinear destructive interaction of wave load with wind load, which is very vital for the optimal design of offshore wind energy converter, we carried out a hydraulic model test and wind tunnel test. As a substructure of offshore wind energy converter, we would deploy the monopile, which is popular due to its easiness in construction. Based on the simulation using Monte Carlo simulation using Kaimal spectrum and cross spectrum, the instantaneous maximum wind velocity is adjusted to 10 m/s. And, considering the wave conditions of the Western Sea where a pilot wind farm is planned to be constructed, $H_s=0.1m$, 0.15 m, 0.2 m is carefully chosen. It turns out that the nonlinear destructive interaction between the wind and wave loads acting on the offshore wind energy converter is more clearly visible at rough seas rather than at mild seas, which strongly support our deduction that a Large eddy, a swirling vortex developed near the bumpy water surface in the opposite direction of the wind, is the driving mechanism underlying nonlinear destructive interaction between the wind and wave loads.
In this study, we was measured the radiance reflectance by using multi-spectral image of low resolution camera(LRC) which will be loaded in the multi-purpose satellite(KOMPSAT) to use the data in analyzing water pollution. Also we investigated the possibility of extraction of water quality factors in rivers and water body by using high resolution remote sensing data such as Airborne MSS. Especially, we tried to extract the environmental factors related with eutrophication, and also tried to develop the process technique and the radiance feature of reflectance related with eutrophication. The results were summarized as follows: First, the spectrum of sun's rays which reaches the surface of the earth was consistent with visible rays bands of 0.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$~0.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and about 50% of total quantity of radiation were there. And at around 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of green spectral band in visible rays bands, the spectrum was highest. Second, as a result of the radiance reflectance Chlorophyll-a represented high spectral reflectance mainly around 0.52${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of green spectral band, and suspended sediments and turbidity represented high spectral reflectance at 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and at 0.57${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ each. Third, as a result of the water quality analysis by using Airborne MSS, Chlorophyll-a could have a distribution chart when carried out ratio of B3 and BS to B7. And Band 7 was useful for making the distribution chart of suspended sediments. And when we carried out PCA, suspended sediments and turbidity had distributions at PC 1 , PC 4 each similarly to ground truth data. Above results can be changed according to the change of season and time. Therefore, in order to analyze more exactly the environmental factors of water quality by using LRC data, we need to investigate constantly the ground truth data and the radiance feature of reflectance of water body. Afterward in this study, we will constantly analyze the radiance feature of the surface of water in water body by measuring the on-the-spot radiance reflectance and using low resolution satellite image(SeaWiFs). Besides, we will gather the data of water quality analysis in water body and analyze the pattern of water pollution.

Radiometric calibration is a fundamental step in ocean color remote sensing since the step to derive solar radiance spectrum in visible to near-infrared wavelengths from the sensor-observed electromagnetic signals. Generally, satellite sensor suffers from degradation over the mission period, which results in biases/uncertainties in radiometric calibration and the final ocean products such as water-leaving radiance, chlorophyll-a concentration, and colored dissolved organic matter. Therefore, the importance of radiometric calibration for the continuity of ocean color satellites has been emphasized internationally. This study introduces an approach to improve the radiometric calibration algorithm for the visible bands of the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GOCI-II) satellite with a focus on stability. Solar Diffuser (SD) measurements were employed as an on-orbit radiometric calibration reference, to obtain the continuous monitoring of absolute gain values. Time series analysis of GOCI-II absolute gains revealed seasonal variations depending on the azimuth angle, as well as long-term trends by possible sensor degradation effects. To resolve the complexities in gain variability, an azimuth angle correction model was developed to eliminate seasonal periodicity, and a sensor degradation correction model was applied to estimate nonlinear trends in the absolute gain parameters. The results demonstrate the effects of the azimuth angle correction and sensor degradation correction model on the spectrum of Top of Atmosphere (TOA) radiance, confirming the capability for improving the long-term stability of GOCI-II data.
This study was performed to estimate forest canopy density (FCD) using airborne hyperspectral data acquired in the Independence Hall of Korea in central Korea. The airborne hyperspectral data were obtained with 36 narrow spectrum ranges of visible (Red, Green, and Blue) and near infrared spectrum (NIR) scope. The FCD mapping model developed by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) uses vegetation index (VI), bare soil index (BI), shadow index (SI), and temperature index (TI) for estimating FCD. Vegetation density (VD) was calculated through the integration of VI and BI, and scaled shadow index (SSI) was extracted from SI after the detection of black soil by TI. Finally, the FCD was estimated with VD and SSI. For the estimation of FCD in this study, VI and SI were extracted from hyperspectral data. But BI and TI were not available from hyperspectral data. Hyperspectral data makes the numerous combination of each band for calculating VI and SI. Therefore, the principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to find which band combinations are explanatory. This study showed that forest canopy density can be efficiently estimated with the help of airborne hyperspectral data. Our result showed that most forest area had 60 ~ 80% canopy density. On the other hand, there was little area of 10 ~ 20% canopy density forest.
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the pigment characteristic and changes in dying conditions on the dying properties by extracting Chelidonium majus var. asiaticum using distilled water and ethanol as solvents. Changes in dying conditions include variations in dye concentrations, dyeing temperatures and time on dye uptake, and K/S Value was compared according to these changes. Additionally, color changes were observed through mordant. Ultraviolet-visible spectrum was used to investigate the pigment characteristic, and as a result, tannin was identified in distilled-water-extract, whereas berberine and chlorophyll were identified in ethanol-extract. In FT-IR analysis, tannin in distilled-water-extract was verified as hydrolyzable tannin. For ethanol extract, chlorophyll was verified through absorption band of C-H, which is aliphatic spectrum around $2920cm^{-1}$ and $2850cm^{-1}$. From GC/MS analysis, oil components as well as terpine compounds were detected in ethanol-extract, and this, in turn, brings expectation regarding functionality. When dying in silk, dye uptake increased as concentration of the extract increased, and the optimum dyeing temperature and time were $40^{\circ}C$ and 60 minutes respectively. Dyed fabrics' colors were all basically Y-series colors, and adjustment in brightness and revelation of khaki color were also available depending on the type of the mordant. Color fastness, except for washing fastness, was good in silk dyed with distilled-water-extract. Thus, it can be concluded that by selecting the right extracting method and by doing proper dyeing and mordant according to the needs, these dyed fabrics can be used as eco-friendly, functional clothing material.

Antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) thin films were deposited at room temperature by ion-beam sputter deposition (IBSD) technique in oxidizing atmosphere utilizing Sb and Sn metal targets. Effect of Sb doping concentration, film thickness and heat treatment on electrical and optical properties was investigated. The thickness of as-deposited films was controlled approximately to $1500{\AA}$ or $2000{\AA}$, and Sb concentration to 10.8 and 14.9 wt%, as determined by SEM and XPS analyses. Heat treatment was performed at the temperature from $400^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ in flowing $O_2$ or forming gas. The resulting ATO films showed widely changing electrical resistivity and optical transmittance values in the visible spectrum depending on the composition, thickness and firing condition.

ZnO is a promising material to make high efficient ultraviolet(UV) or blue light emitting diodes(LEDs) because of its large binding energy and energy bandgap. In this study, we prepared ZnO thin films with p-type conductivity on silicon(100) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering in the mixture of $N_2$ and $O_2$. The process was accompanied by low pressure in-situ annealing in $O_2$ at $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ respectively. Hall effect in Van der Pauw configuration showed that the N-doped ZnO film annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ has p-type conductivity. Photoluminescence(PL) spectrum of the film annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ showed UV emission related to exciton and bound to donor-acceptor pair(DAP) as well as visible emission related to many intrinsic defects.
The sharp-line absorption and emission spectra of $(H_{13}O_6)${$trans-[Cr(Me_2tn)_2Br_2]$}$_2Br_2(ClO_4)\;(Me_2$tn = 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diaminopropane) have been measured between 13000 $cm^{-1}$ and 16000 $cm^{-1}$ at 5 K. The 298 K infrared and visible absorption spectra have also been measured. The nine electronic bands due to spin-allowed and spin-forbidden transitions were assigned. Using observed transitions, a ligand field analysis has been performed to probe the ligand field properties of coordinated atoms in the title chromium(III) complex ion. The zero-phonon line in the sharp-line absorption spectrum splits into two components by 286 $cm^{-1}$, and the large $^2E_g$ splitting can be reproduced by the modern ligand field theory. It is confirmed that nitrogen atoms of the Me2tn ligand have a strong $\sigma$-donor character, but the bromide has weak $\sigma$- and $\pi$-donor properties toward chromium(III) ion.
