The rheological measurement of polypropylene (PP) has been performed using a rheometer, an intrinsic viscometer, and an MI machine to predict the molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution. Also, GPC has been used for the determination of the molecular structure. The distribution broadness parameter using modified Carreau model has been used to make the correlation between the rheological parameter and the molecular structure instead of the rheological PI (polydispersity index) which is determined from the cross of modulus from the dynamic oscillatory measurement. Even though the rheological PI is useful to determine the molecular weight distribution of the PP using controlled rheology, which has narrow and uniform molecular weight distribution, but not suitable to determine the molecular weight distribution of the PP made from direct polymerization which has broad and various molecular weight distribution. However the distribution broadness parameter which determined from the index of the shear thinning of the PP melt well predicts the molecular weight distribution of PP.

Bio-based nylon 6-morpholinone random copolymers were prepared by the anionic ring opening polymerization of ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactam and morpholinone, both of which were prepared from lysine and glucose, respectively. From this work, a new biomass based nylon 6 with improved hydrophilicity was prepared. Optimizing the polymerization condition, copolymer with a viscosity-average molecular weight of 30000 g/mol was prepared, with a yield of 80%. It was possible to improve the hydrophilicity of nylon 6 by its copolymerization with morpholinone. The prepared nylon 6-morpholinone random copolymers were then characterized using several analytical methods such as DSC, TGA, XRD, viscosity measurement with U-shaped glass capillary viscometer and contact angle measurement.
Aluminum magnesium silicate was synthesized by reacting the mixed solutions of sodium aluminate and magnesium chloride with sodium silicate solution in this study. The optimal synthesis conditions based on the yield of the product has been attained according to Box-Wilson experimental design. It was found that the optimal synthetic conditions of aluminum magnesium silicate were as follows: Reaction temperature=$69~81^{\circ}C$; concentration of two reactants, sodium aluminate and magnesium chloride= 13.95~14.44 w/w%; molar concentration ratio of the two reactants, [NaAlO$_{2}$]/MgCl$_{2}$]=3.63~4.00; reaction time= 12~15 min; drying temp. of the product=$70~76^{\circ}C$. Aluminum magnesium silicate synthesized under the optimal synthesis condition was dispersed in 0.75, 1.0 and 1.5w/w% aqueous solution or suspension of six dispersing agents, and the Theological properties of the dispersed systems prepared have been investigated at $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ using Brookfield LVT Type Viscometer. The acid-consuming capacity of the most excellent product was 272~278 ml of 0.1N-HCl per gram of the antacid. The flow types of 5.0 w/w% aluminum magnesium silicate suspension were dependent upon the kind and concentration of dispersing agents added. The apparent viscosity of the suspension was generally increased with concentration of dispersing agents and was not significantly changed or decreased as the temperature was raised. A dispersing agent, hydroxypropyl cellulose suspension, exhibited an unique flow behavior of antithixotropy. The flow behavior of the suspension dispersed in a given dispersing agent not always coincided with that of the dispersing agent solution or suspension itself.

Ruthenium(Ru)-doped $TiO_2$ nanofibers were prepared using electrospun Ru-$TiO_2$/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) fibers and subsequent annealing for 1 h at temperatures in the range of $500^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$ in air. The properties of the Ru-$TiO_2$ fibers were characterized as a function of the Ru content and calcination temperature using X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetry with differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and viscometer, pycnometer and dynamic tensiometer measurements. Although the diameter of the fiber decreased slightly with increasing calcination temperature, no dramatic changes were observed with respect to the ruthenium content. The XRD and FT-IR results revealed that anatase phase and ruthenium metal began to be formed after calcination at temperatures above $500^{\circ}C$. Anatase and rutile phases and ruthenium metal coexisted in the fibers calcined above $600^{\circ}C$. No anatase phase was detected in the fibers containing ruthenium when they were calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$. The morphology of the fibers changed from smooth and uniform to porous with increasing temperature. The experimental results suggest that the calcination temperature and Ru content were influential in determining the morphology and structure of the fibers.

Thermal entrance lengths of turbulent tube flow for viscoelastic polymer solutions are investigated experimentally in the recirculating flow system with tubes of inside diameters 8.5mm(L/D=710) and 10.3mm(L/D=1158), respectively. In the present system, the hydrodynamic and thermal boundary layers develop simultaneously from the beginning of the test section. To provide the boundary condition of constant heat flux at the wall, the test tubes are heated directly by electricity. The polymer solution used in the current study is 1000 wppm aqueous solution of polyacrylamide(Separan AP-273). The apparent viscosity of the polymer solutions circulating in the flow system are measured by the capillary tube viscometer at regular time intervals. Thermal entrance lengths vary due to the rate of degradation. The entrance lengths of degraded polymer solutions are about 500~600 times the diameter. However, the entrance lengths of fresh polymer solutions are greater than the lengths of the test tubes used in this study suggesting that thermal entrance lengths for viscoelastic polymer solutions are greater than 1100 tube times the diameters. Friction factor is almost insensitive to the degradation, but the heat transfer $j_{H}$-factor is affected seriously by degradation. Based on the present experimental data of fresh solutions a correlation for the heat transfer $j_{H}$-factor is presented.ted.
Rheological properties of gelatinized rice starch solutions (5%) were examined with a Brookifield viscometer. Gelatinized rice starch solutions showed pseudoplastic flow having yield stress, i.e., Binghamplastic flow behavior. The yield stress of gelatinized rice starch solutions was reduced by the phosphate. Phosphate increased the pseudoplasticity of gelatinized nonwaxy rice starch solutions. but decreased that of gelatinized waxy rice starch solution. The yield stress of gelatinized nonwaxy rice starch solutions held for one hour at $90^{\circ}C$ was slightly decreased, but that of waxy starch solution was reduced by 10-fold. Phosphate reduced the yield stress for both gelatinized nonwaxy and waxy rice starch solutions. Phosphate decreased the consistency index, but did not affect the flow behavior index of the gelatinized rice starch solutions.
Purpose: To develop fat-free dressing containing a resistant starch (RS) as a dietary fiber, the viscosity and stability of various type RSes prepared from wheat, maize, potato, rice, waxy rice, and amaranth starches were investigated by using Brookfield viscometer. The shape of RS granule in the dressing during storage was also observed. Methods: The viscosity of fat free dressing with different retrograded RS3 (RS3V) prepared from waxy rice starch with 0.1% lemon vinegar and ascorbate mixed solution had higher RS3 that was maintained constant during storage. Annealing and heating prior to cross-linking, and heating after cross-linking increased RS level of RS4 type starches. Results: The viscosities and stabilities of dressings with RS were different depending on starch sources and RS preparation conditions. The heated RS4 (HRS4) increased in viscosity and stability with RS4 addition. Especially the fat-free dressings with HRS4 prepared from rice and waxy rice starches maintained stability regardless of separation after one month storage with only 7% separation after 6 month storages. The shape of RS4 granule in acidic medium of dressing did not change until 6 months. Conclusion: In this study, RS4 made by the rice and waxy rice starches showed high viscosity and maintained stability of the fat-free dressings during storage.

Rheological properties of gelatinized chestnut starch solution were investigated with a narrow gap rotational viscometer. The starch solutions at 1.2-1.8% concentration showed pseudoplastic behaviour with yield stress. At higher concentrations (1.65 and 1.8%), the starch solution showed more pseudoplastic tendency and time-dependent characteristics. Values of yield stress were small and independent of concentrations 1.2, 1.35 and 1.5%. Significant increase of yield stress was observed at 1.65% concentration. Consistency index was exponentially dependent on concentration and temperature. The activation energy for 1.65% starch solution was about 5 Kcal/g.mol.

Flow properties of heated edible oils, such as soybean, rapeseed, rice bran, corn and perilla oils, were measured with Maron-Belner type capillary viscometer. These oils were heated at $180{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ (general cooking temperature) for $5{\sim}20$ hours except soybean oils ($5{\sim}40$ hours). Fluidities of these heated oils except rice bran oil were decreased according to heating time and decreasing ratio of fluidity was outstanding after 15 hour heating in corn oil and 20 hours heating in soybean and perilla oils. All the oils examined in this experiments except rice bran oil showed non-Newtonian motion after 15 hour hinting at high shear stress and Newtonian motion at less than 10 hour heating. In the soybean oil non-Newtonian flow property was outstanding after 30 hour heating at $180{\pm}5^{\circ}C$. Rice bran oil exhibit characteristic flow property, that is, non heated rice bran oil has lowest fluidity but heated one has highest fluidity compared to other oils examined in this experiment. Change of fluidity with extension of heating time was not detected and non heated rice bran oil showed non-Newtonian motion.

Functional properties of mucilage and pigment extracted from Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten were determined at various temperatures, pHs and alcohol concentrations. The crude mucilage extracted from pickly pear showed pH 4.2, 0.14% total acidity and 8.1% total soluble solid content(w/w, wet basis). Polysaccharide was purified from mucilage extract by isopropanol precipitation. Intrinsic viscosity of polysaccharide was 18.1dl/g and decreased with increasing KCl concentration. Relative viscosity and color stability of mucilage extract were determined with capillary viscometer and spectrophotometer at 534nm, respectively. In additions of 1~20%(v/v) ethanol, the red pigment of mucilage extract was very stable, but relative viscosity, increased gradually. For heating above 7$0^{\circ}C$, the stability of red pigment decreased drastically, but rheological property of mucilage was not changed. During storage, the red pigment was extremely unstable at above pH 8.3. At both pH 3.0 and pH 4.2, the red pigment was the most stable at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 18 days. In the case of storage at 37$^{\circ}C$, pigment of mucilage extract at pH 3.0 was destroyed more quickly than that at pH 4.2. Natural mucilage extract(pH 4.2) showed the good stability of red pigment at 3$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 days.
