Recently, a lot of researchers focus on the sensor middleware that hide the complexity of application developments and provide the abstraction of functions to upper application layer. Although there we several factors to design sensor middleware, the attribute-based naming is considered to be an essential factor among them. However, most existing researches were not designed to reflect the characteristics of sensor networks and have the limitation of attribute-based query extension. This study adopts the concept of Virtual Counterpart to suggest the structure there attribute-based naming is supported by virtual sensor nodes of the middleware on the sink node. Unlike traditional data-centric middleware in which individual sensor nodes process attribute-based query, virtual sensor nodes mapped to physical sensor nodes are running on the middleware of the sink node and process attribute-based query as a proxy of the physical sensor. This approach enables attribute-based naming independent of physical infrastructure and easy extensibility.
In a wireless sensor network (WSN), the data transmission technique based on the cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (CMIMO) scheme reduces the energy consumption of sensor nodes quite effectively by utilizing the space-time block coding scheme. However, in networks with high node density, the scheme is ineffective due to the high degree of correlated data. Therefore, to enhance the energy efficiency in high node density WSNs, we implemented the distributed source coding (DSC) with the virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) data transmission technique in the WSNs. The DSC-MIMO first compresses redundant source data using the DSC and then sends it to a virtual MIMO link. The results reveal that, in the DSC-MIMO scheme, energy consumption is lower than that in the CMIMO technique; it is also lower in the DSC single-input single-output (SISO) scheme, compared to that in the SISO technique at various code rates, compression rates, and training overhead factors. The results also indicate that the energy consumption per bit is directly proportional to the velocity and training overhead factor in all the energy saving schemes.

Cybrid virtual plant concept is defined as a cyber plant mimicking a physical plant by using plant engineering data and sensor data coming from sensors attached to facilities of the physical plant. Cybrid virtual plant is a new concept for plant industry so that plant managers and operators' requirements need to be captured for systematic application of the concept to the plant industry. The paper proposed an architecture of the cybrid virtual plant, and provided requirement analysis results for a specific plant company. A database, named smart-cube repository, for the proposed cybrid virtual plant is also proposed and its conceptual data structure is described.

Obstacle Detection System(ODS) is a essential system for automated vehicle, such as AGV(Automatic Guided Vehicle), mobile robot. Automated vehicle must have a capability to detect and to avoid obstacles to guarantee a safe driving condition. To implement obstacle detection system, virtual bumper concept adapted. Like real bumper in a car, such as in the truck, it protects vehicle from collision using laser distance sensor. When an obstacle(such as other vehicle, building, etc) intrudes this virtual bumper area, a virtual force is calculated and produces necessary strategy to be able to avoid collision. In this paper, simplified virtual bumper concept is presented, and various problems when happens to implement are discussed.

The interaction between wireless sensors such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud is a new paradigm of communication virtualization to overcome resource and efficiency restriction. Cloud computing provides unlimited platform, resources, services and also covers almost every area of computing. On the other hand, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has gained attention for their potential supports and attractive solutions such as IoT, environment monitoring, healthcare, military, critical infrastructure monitoring, home and industrial automation, transportation, business, etc. Besides, our virtual groups and social networks are in main role of information sharing. However, this sensor network lacks resource, storage capacity and computational power along with extensibility, fault-tolerance, reliability and openness. These data are not available to community groups or cloud environment for general purpose research or utilization yet. If we reduce the gap between real and virtual world by adding this WSN driven data to cloud environment and virtual communities, then it can gain a remarkable attention from all over, along with giving us the benefit in various sectors. We have proposed a Pub/Sub-based sensor virtualization framework Cloud environment. This integration provides resource, service, and storage with sensor driven data to the community. We have virtualized physical sensors as virtual sensors on cloud computing, while this middleware and virtual sensors are provisioned automatically to end users whenever they required. Our architecture provides service to end users without being concerned about its implementation details. Furthermore, we have proposed an efficient content-based event matching algorithm to analyze subscriptions and to publish proper contents in a cost-effective manner. We have evaluated our algorithm which shows better performance while comparing to that of previously proposed algorithms.

The sensor data measured by the legged robot are used to recognize the physical environment or information that controls the robot's posture. Therefore, a robot's ambulation can be advanced with the use of such sensing information. For the precise control of a robot, highly accurate sensor data are required, but most sensors are expensive and are exposed to excessive load operation in the field. The seriousness of these problems will be seen if the prototype's practicality and mass productivity, which are closely related to the unit cost of production and maintenance, will be considered. In this paper, the use of a virtual sensor technology was suggested to address the aforementioned problems, and various ways of applying the theory to a walking robot obtained through training with an actual sensor, and of various hardware information, were presented. Finally, the possibility of the replacement of the ground reaction force sensor of legged robot was verified.
Since data-driven building technologies have been widely applied to building energy systems, the accuracy of building sensors has more impacts on the building performance and system performance analysis. Various building sensors, however, can have typical errors including a random error (noise) and a systematic error (bias). The systematic error is indicated by the difference between the mean of measurements and their true value. It may occur due to the sensor's physical condition, measured phenomena, working environments inside the systems. Unfortunately, a conventional calibration method has limitations in calibrating the systematic errors because of the difference between working environments and calibration conditions. In such situations, a novel sensor calibration method is needed to handle various sensor errors, especially for systematic errors, in building energy systems having various thermodynamic environments. This study proposes a building sensor calibration method named Virtual In-situ Calibration (VIC) and shows how it is applied into a real building system and how it solves the sensor errors.
In this study, we establish hyper-elastic haptic feedback in a virtual environment using finite element analysis techniques and develop a Force Torque (FT) sensor utilization method for application in tele-operation environments. In general, regarding haptic feedback data, in a tele-operation environment, the user is provided with feedback according to the measured force data when the model is inserted through an FT sensor. Conversely, in a virtual environment, the press-fitting model can be expressed through the spring-damper system rather than an FT sensor to provide feedback. However, unlike rigid and the elastic bodies, the hyper-elastic body represented by a spring-damper system in a virtual environment is a simple impedance model using stiffness and damping coefficients; it is limited in terms of providing actual feedback. Thus, in this study, haptic feedback was implemented using the data obtained from POD-RBF analysis results during hyper-elastic press-fitting experiments. The haptic feedback mechanism developed in this study was verified by comparing the FT sensor feedback data measured and calculated through hyper-elastic press-fitting experiments with spring-damper feedback data. Subsequently, the POD-RBF analysis feedback was compared and evaluated against the feedback mechanism of each environment through the test subject, and the similarities between the POD-RBF analysis feedback and FT sensor data feedback were verified.
