  • The development of wireless communication MAC layer is usually released as SoC which is a combination in hardware and software. In this system development environment, an environment for software development and verification is necessary because the hardware development takes a lot of time priori to completion. In integrated development of hardware and software, simulation environment of hardware and software provided by hardware modeling using HDL at RTL and ISS respectively. By increasing the development complexity of system, ESL design modeling systems at higher abstraction level than RTL has already prompted. The ESL design is divided untime model and time model. This paper present design and implementation of MCU for untime model simulation, not time model. Proposed MCU can optimize the system at early step of system development and move up the development completion time by verifying the system function easily and rapidly than part required exact time in untime model. In this paper, we present an MCU module based on SystemC and UC/OS-II Module providing real-time operate system.

  • In order to reduce the number of installation processes and the cost, a unified ball valve and polyethylene-steel pipe is proposed and tested. An integrated design approach is carried out such that a virtual manufacturing based on finite-element analysis is first performed in order to examine contact conditions under exaggerated temperature variations (${\Delta}T\;=\;60^{\circ}C$ and $-50^{\circ}C$ for summer and winter, respectively). From the final design configuration, it was predicted that the maximum contact pressures are 71 and 8.1 MPa for summer and winter, respectively, at relatively larger contact surface. Based on this observation, a prototype model is fabricated to go through an actual leakage test. The prototype pipe passed a hydrostatic strength test successfully, showing no leakage at even much higher (54 MPa) than the operational pressure (0.25 MPa).

  • Recently, the distance education has been rapidly proliferated with the rapid growth of the Internet and high speed networks. There has been relatively much research with regard to online lecture (teaching and studying) tools for the distance education, compared to the virtual laboratory tools (for self-study and experiments). In this paper, we design and implement a web-based simulation tool, named as SimDraw, for the virtual laboratory in the distance education. To apply the web-based simulation technology into the distance education, some requirements should be met; firstly, the user interface of the simulation should be very easy for students. Secondly, the simulation should be very portable to be run on various computer systems of remote students. Finally, the simulation program on remote computers should be very thin so that students can easily install the program onto their computers. To meet these requirements, SimDraw adopts the client/server architecture; the client program contains only model development and animation functions so that no installation of a client program onto student's system is required, and it can be implemented by a Java applet in Web browsers. The server program supports client programs by offering the functions such as remote compiling, model storing, library management, and user management. For the evaluation of SimDraw, we show the simulation process using the example experimentation of the RIP(Routing Information Protocol) Internet routing protocol.

  • In this study, potential defects of ring-type cast products during the mold-filling stage of the casting process were investigated using computer simulation. The main focus was on the effects of runner extension and ingates. During the mold filling the molten metal flowed from the bottom to the top of the mold in two curved paths along the ring-type cavity. The fluid fronts in the two paths did not show the identical velocity during the mold filling stage. This difference in the filling speeds may cause defects such as voids and local contractions. The present model contained virtual fluid detectors at various positions inside the mold. When the molten metal passed those points, the volume of fluid jumped up from zero to one. The moments were measured to compare the speeds of the fluid fronts. We attempted various combinations of runner extensions and ingates to stabilize the flow and then to optimize the casting mold design.

  • In these days, the management and visualization of 3D geo-spatial information is regarded as one of an important issue in GiS and remote sensing fields. 3D GIS is considered with the database issues such as handling and managing of 3D geometry/topology attributes, whereas 3D visualization is basically concerned with 3D computer graphics. This study focused on the design and implementation for the OpenGL API-based rendering system for the complex types of 3D geo-spatial features. In this approach 3D features can be separately processed with the functions of authoring and manipulation of terrain segments, building segments, road segments, and other geo-based things with texture mapping. Using this implementation, it is possible to the generation of an integrated scene with these complex types of 3D features. This integrated rendering system based on the feature-based 3D-GIS model can be extended and effectively applied to urban environment analysis, 3D virtual simulation and fly-by navigation in urban planning. Furthermore, we expect that 3D-GIS visualization application based on OpenGL API can be easily extended into a real-time mobile 3D-GIS system, soon after the release of OpenGLIES which stands for OpenGL for embedded system, though this topic is beyond the scope of this implementation.

  • Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) are tools widely used in the context of the construction industry. While BIM is used to represent the physical and functional characteristics of a facility, DES models are used to represent its construction process. Integrating both is beneficial to those interested in the field of construction management since it has many potential applications. Game engines provide a human navigable 3D virtual environment in which the integrated BIM and DES models can be visualised and interacted with. This paper reports the experience obtained while developing a simulator prototype which integrates a BIM and a DES model of a single construction activity within a commercial game engine. The simulator prototype allows the user to visualise how the duration of the construction activity is affected by different input parameters interactively. It provides an environment to conduct DES studies using the user's own BIM models. This approach could increase the use of DES technologies in the context of construction management and engineering outside the research community. The presented work is the first step towards the development of a serious game for construction management education and was carried out to determine the suitable IT tools for its development.

  • Design and application of hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) for design of CNC-controlled machine tool feed drives is discussed. The CNC machine tool is a complex mechatronics system where the complexity results from the software-based controller composed of a variety of functionalities and advanced control algorithms. Therefore, using a real CNC controller in the control simulation has merits considering the efforts and accuracy of the simulation modeling. In this paper challenges in HILS for a CNC controlled feed drive, such as minimization of time delay and transmission error that are caused by discretization of the feed drive model, is elaborated. Using an experimental HILS setup of a machine tool feed drive applications in controller gain selection and CNC diagnostics are presented.

  • In this paper, we present a Web-enabled product data sharing system for the support of RPD (Rapid Product Development) process by incorporating STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) with Web technology such as VRML (Virtual Reality Markup Language), SGML (Structured Generalized Markup Language) and Java. Extreme competition makes product life cycle short by incessantly deprecating current products with a brand-new one, and thus urges enterprises to devise a new product faster than ever. In this environment, an RPD process with effective product data sharing system is essential to outstrip competitors by speeding up the development process. However, the diversity of product data schema and heterogeneous systems make it difficult to exchange the product data. We chose STEP as a neutral product data schema and Web as an independent exchange environment to overcome these problems. While implementing our system, we focused on the support of STEP AP 203 UoF (Units of Functionality) views to efficiently employ STEP data models that are maximally normalized, and therefore very cumbersome to handle. Our functionality-oriented UoF view approach can increase users'appreciation since it facilitates the modular usage of STEP data models. This can also enhance the accuracy of product data. We demonstrate that our view approach is applicable to the configuration control of mechanical assemblies.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a circuit complexity optimization ILP algorithm of high-level synthesis system for new multiprocessor design. We have analyzed to the operator characteristics and structure of datapath in the most important high-level synthesis. We also introduced the concept of virtual operator for the scheduling of multi-cycle operations. Thus, we demonstrated the complexity to implement a multi-cycle operation of the operator, regardless of the type of operation that can be applied for commonly use in the ILP algorithm. We have achieved is that standard benchmark model for the scheduling of the 5th digital wave filter, it was exactly the same due to the existing datapath scheduling results.

  • Manual 3D pipeline modeling from LiDAR scanned point cloud data is laborious and time-consuming process. This paper presents a method to extract the pipe, elbow and branch information which is essential to the automatic modeling of the pipeline connection. The pipe geometry is estimated from the point cloud data through the Hough transform and the elbow position is calculated by the medial axis intersection for assembling the nearest pair of pipes. The branch is also created for a pair of pipe segments by estimating the virtual points on one pipe segment and checking for any feasible intersection with the other pipe's endpoint within the pre-defined range of distance. As a result of the automatic modeling, a complete 3D pipeline model is generated by connecting the extracted information of pipes, elbows and branches.
