Personal Computer Based Aids to Navigation Training Simulator Using Virtual Reality Modeling Language

  • This paper describes recently developed PC based Aids to Navigation Training Simulator (AtoN-TS) using Virtual Reality Modeling language (VRML). The purpose of AtoN-TS is to train entry-level cadets to reduce the amount of sea-time training. The practical application procedure of VR technology to implement AtoN-TS is represented. The construction method of virtual waterway world, according to the guidelines of International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) is proposed. Design concepts and simulation experiments are also discussed. Results from trial tests and evaluations by subject assessment, provide practical insight on the importance of AtoN-TS.

Effects of integrated simulation education among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of integrated simulations conducted by virtual simulation and in situ simulation among nursing college students during COVID-19. This study was conducted from July 7 to 9, 2020 and the participants included 126 fourth-year nursing college students. Integrated simulation consisted of virtual simulation, teledebriefing, pre-briefing, in situ simulation, and debriefing. The results showed that after the use of various simulation modules and the training of integrated simulations incorporating virtual and in situ simulation training, critical thinking (t=5.20, p=<0.001), clinical judgment (t=6.71, p=<0.001), and simulation effectiveness (t=3.53, p=0.001). These findings could help establish the direction for more diverse forms of simulation-based education and it should be conducted in future nursing simulation during this COVID-19 pandemic era.

운전자와 현장조업자의 협동훈련을 위한 플랜트 훈련시스템 플랫폼 연구 (A Study on Plant Training System Platform for the Collaboration Training between Operator and Field Workers)

  • Operator Training Simulators (OTSs) provide macroscopic training environment for plant operation. They are equipped with simulation systems for the emulation of remote monitoring and controlling operations. OTSs typically provide 2D block diagram-based graphic user interface (GUI) and connect to process simulation tools. However, process modeling for OTSs is a difficult task. Furthermore, conventional OTSs do not provide real plant field information since they are based on 2D human machine interface (HMI). In order to overcome the limitation of OTSs, we propose a new type of plant training system. This system has the capability required for collaborative training between operators and field workers. In addition, the system provides 3D virtual training environment such that field workers feel like they are in real plant site. For this, we designed system architecture and developed essential functions for the system. For the verification of the proposed system design, we implemented a prototype training system and performed experiments of collaborative training between one operator and two field workers with the prototype system.

  • This paper describes a development of rehabilitation training system for the postural balance control. A new rehabilitation training system, designated as a virtual cycling system, was developed to improve postural balance control by combining virtual reality technology with an unfixed bicycle. In this experiment, 20 normal adults were tested to investigate the influencing parameters of postural balance control. In order to evaluate the usefulness and the training effects of the system, several parameters including path deviation, cycling velocity, cycling time, center of pressure, and head movement were evaluated and analyzed quantitatively.   • Excavators are versatile earthmoving equipment that are used in civil engineering, hydraulic engineering, grading and landscaping, pipeline construction and mining. Effective operator training is essential to ensure safe and efficient operating of the machine. The virtual reality excavator based on simulation using conventional large size monitors is limited by the inability to provide a realistic real world training experience. We proposed a flexible observation method with a head tracking system to improve user feeling and sensation when operating a virtual reality excavator. First, an excavation simulator is designed by combining an excavator SimMechanics model and the virtual world. Second, a head mounted display (HMD) device is presented to replace the cumbersome large screens. Moreover, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor is mounted to the HMD for tracking the movement of the operator's head. These signals consequently change the virtual viewpoint of the virtual reality excavator. Simulation results were used to analyze the performance of the proposed system.

  • L-V-C 시뮬레이션 연동은 실병력이 실장비를 가지고 참여하는 Live 시뮬레이션 모델, 실병력이 모의된 장비를 가지고 참여하는 Virtual 시뮬레이션 모델, 그리고 모의된 시스템에 모의된 병력이 참여하는 Constructive 시뮬레이션 모델을 연결하여 통합 운용하는 개념으로써, 각각의 모델이 갖고 있는 장점을 취하고, 단점을 보완하며, 보다 실전적인 통합 훈련이 가능하도록 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 논문에서는 L-V-C 시뮬레이션 연동을 위한 연구로서, 소부대 교전훈련을 위한 Virtual-Constructive 시뮬레이션 연동개념 연구를 위한 테스트베드를 구축하여, 이를 바탕으로 V-C 시뮬레이션 연동을 위한 요구사항 및 기술을 제안 하고, 기술의 효용성을 검증하였다. 또한 본 논문의 연구 결과는 추후 임무 / 교전급 규모 부대의 L-V-C 연동을 위한 핵심기술 개발에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

가상현실 기반 국방 교육훈련체계 사업화 우선순위 선정에 관한 연구 ((A) Study on the Priority Selection for business development of the Defense Education and Training System Based on Virtual Reality)

  • 군(軍)이 가상현실 기술을 다양한 교육훈련체계에 도입을 검토하여 충분히 활용하기 위해서는 해당 기술 및 교육체계의 특성을 반영하는 사업화 특성에 대한 정확한 파악과 선별적인 적용이 중요할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 가상현실 기반의 교육훈련체계 사업화 시 고려해야 할 요인들에 대해서 AHP(Analitic Hierarchy Process)기법을 통해 평가기준을 선정하고 추진 과제들의 우선순위를 판단해보았다. 선행연구를 기초로 초기 AHP 모델을 구성하여 레벨 1의 평가 기준으로 현실성 등 6개 요소에 대한 상대적인 중요도를 분석하였다. 다음으로 레벨 2는 6개의 평가 기준에 11개 과제별 중요도의 확인을 위해 각각의 평가 기준을 대상으로 분석하여 과제별 우선순위를 선정하였다. 분석결과 레벨 1에서는 현실성 및 파급성이 다른 요소에 비해 높은 중요도를 나타내었다. 최종 상대적 중요도를 평가한 결과는 ① 비행훈련, ② 재난훈련, ③ 포탄 사격, ④ 차량 운전 순으로 우선순위가 나타났다. 본 연구에서 제시한 모델의 레벨 1과 2에서 결정된 상대적 우선순위를 바탕으로 국방 가상현실 과제 연구 우선순위의 최종 의사결정에 필요한 사업별 중요도를 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 국방 분야의 교육훈련체계 사업화에 대한 우선순위 선정에 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

가상현실을 적용한 소방교육·훈련에 관한 연구 (Study on Firefighting Education and Training Applying Virtual Reality)

  • 본 연구는 재난관리 단계와 소방학교 교육과정별로 VR 프로그램의 특성과 연관성을 고려하여 분류하고, AHP 분석 기법을 활용하여 VR 소방교육훈련 프로그램 중 우선순위를 설정하고, 소방교육훈련 분야별 구체적 교육훈련 프로그램에 대해 그 중요도와 시급도성을 감안하여 상대적 우선순위를 제시하였다. 연구의 결과, 소방교육훈련 대분류에서는 대응분야가 가장 높게 나타났으며, 중분류에서는 예방단계의 안전교육이 가장 높게 나타났다. 소분류의 상대적 우선순위는 예방단계에서 지하철역사와 같은 밀폐 공간에 화재 발생시, 대피 체험을 위한 시뮬레이션 구현이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 대비단계에서는 특수소방차량 조작 시뮬레이션이 가장 높게 나타났다. 대응단계에서는 실화재 가상현실 시뮬레이션 훈련이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 복구단계에서는 화재 데이터베이스를 토대로 화재상황을 판단하는 가상현실 훈련이 가장 높게 나타났다.
