Analysis on Community Consciousness of Leaders and Members of Rural Village Community Organizations by types - Case Study on Yesan Gun - (농촌 마을 공동체 유형에 따른 의식조사 - 충남 예산군을 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct an analysis of rural village's community status and consciousness through a questionnaire survey of community leaders and members. Nine types of rural village communities were selected in Korea through a pre-survey of amenity resources data from the Rural Development Administration. Survey items that could determine characteristics of rural village communities were derived from a literature survey of rural village community systems. A questionnaire survey was conducted for 12 Eup-Myeon in Yesan Gun and responses were gathered from 66 community leaders and 1,222 community members. The results derived from the data collected from the community leaders show that 50% percent of rural village communities have been operating for over 25 years, and that community works such as group purchases are carried out based on emotional sympathies between residents. The results derived from the data collected from community members show that on average, community activities are carried out at places that are between 30 and 60 minutes away. Most members are satisfied with regard to the status of their rural village community. A correlation analysis showed that the rural village community satisfaction depended on travel time, community fee, and activity time.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify challenges related to social, economic and environmental change for fishing villages and suggest the developmental direction of fishing village to actively respond to new changes. This study mainly focuses on fishing village fraternities. Its current problems are summarized as follows: shortage of labor, population aging, entry barrier against newcomers, insufficient guidance and supervision functions, lack of funds of new projects and inadequate statistics and data. The fishing village community in the modern meaning of the term can be understood as an economic and flexible social-cultural community based on openness, cooperation instead of exclusiveness and closeness, which aligns fisheries with local industries. Thus, in order for the fishing village community to improve, the followings areas required. First, strengthening capacity of the fishing village community. Second, establishing the database system and the third, reorganizing the fishing village community into a sea village community.

Residents' Interaction and Community Consciousness in the Urban Village Community - The Case of Sungmisan Village - (도심 마을공동체 내 거주자의 상호작용과 공동체의식 - 성미산마을을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest factors for village activation and maintenance of urban village community, based on the survey of residents' interaction (neighbors relationship, using community facilities, and community activities) and their community consciousness of Seongmisan village, a successful case in Seoul. 171 residents answered the questionnaire, and the data were analyzed by the SPSS program. Major findings are as follows. 1) Families got social with neighbors, caused by common use of community facilities, nearness of houses, and kids' friendship; the number of neighbors to be expected to give help was mostly under 5. 2) Facilities used by residents more than 3 times a week were cooperative association and cafe 'Little Tree'. Facilities considered to be important by residents were living cooperative association('Doore'), kids daycare center, village school, cafe, and education center. 3) 'Village News' was mostly interested community activities; 'Village Festival' and 'Village Sports Day' were also mostly participated. 4) As for the village consciousness factors, more than 3 points of 5 marked in all the 3 categories; emotional intimacy, neighbor homogeneity, and village attribution. The village consciousness, however, showed statistically meaningful difference in residents' motivation to move into village, number of family members, age, income, period of residence, neighbors relationship, whether they participate in group activities and events or not.

  • In this study, the effectiveness of the method for the promotion council to make rehabilitation community development plan with rural villages to continue community development is investigated in Ota-district, which is affected by chuetu earthquake. Initially, Ota-district made the acting contents of the plan based on the village's request, which is considered resident life and problems in village. Next, Ota-district made the vision of plan based on the acting contents. This plan procedure has been effective to compliment the village community facilities and running on village event, in addition to setting the village's community to continue to manage community facilities and event. As a result, this way has helped good management of village event using the facilities and interchanging among residents. Also, the use of acting contents by request of the promotion council and village's community, while respecting both, has been effective in that the promotion council assists the village event after the rehabilitation community development plan is finished.

  • The purpose of this study is that suggest space composition in rural village so that it can had foundations for Activation of regional community by analysis and re-organization of rural community places based on regionality and historicity. First, this study have been investigated about changes of overall space configuration and community places that has been lost or were ongoing in rural village. Factors of changes were changes in lifestyle, rural policy, social and political system, economic principles and ect. Therefore, This study focused on understanding basic principles of rural village space configuration and inherited it. Second, basic principle of the space configuration of rural village were entryway and center that improve community cohesion in the community space. This study figured out improving of "Ma-Dang" and functional mix-use community hall was important for more efficient management. Third, This study set direction according to characteristic of space configuration of each village and suggested detail plans.

  • This study is an exploratory case study of a humanity community building process in a rural area context, particularly in the villages of Eoro-ri, Chilgok-gun, and Gyeongsangbuk-do. Chilgok-Gun has institutionalized support systems for a humanity community building, and has implemented some programs for four years. This article uses a qualitative approach to analyze the process of community buildings, such as in-depth interviews and observations. The analysis is based on the process of discovering, vitalization, and self-governing for community buildings, and give some implications for future community buildings in a rural area context as follows. First, the village leader constantly needs to be cultivated. The village leader is not a simple representative of the village. He constantly needs to make efforts to communicate with the villagers. Second, learning through constant self-reflection is necessary for the villagers. It is important to make community programs and residents' small meetings to facilitate reflection. In community buildings, the process of communication and consultation for villagers is more important. The process that creates a new value of the village in the learning process takes place. Third, talented village people who can develop the village should be educated. This is a virtuous circle for Village Development. Aging in rural areas has been deepening, which will affect the future of local communities that can meet in accordance with various crises and responses. There is a need for complex research on sustainable ways to reinvent itself as a community.

A Research on Improving Leisure Activities for Elders in Rural Areas: Based on Using Village Community Centers (농촌노인의 여가생활 실태와 개선방안에 대한 인식 -성별 마을회관 활용을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this research is to examine how the village community centers are being used and find how to improve leisure activities of elders in rural areas by using them. In order to achieve the purpose of this research, we did convenience sampling from elders using 92 village community centers in one of the counties in Gyeong-gi province, and did field survey to 343 persons. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS 18 program, and the results are as follows: The survey on population sociological peculiarity of elders using village community centers shows that most of elders are over 70 years old. As for health conditions, there are more elders who are physically weaker than healthy elders. And the survey shows that most of the elders are suffering from illness such as hypertension, arthritis, neuralgia, and indigestion so such programs related to health are critically required. First, the survey on using village community centers by elders in rural areas shows that they think the village community centers are important for them and use them often. Most of respondents said that they use the village community center so as to meet friends, to enjoy leisure, and to spend time in rural areas where they have difficulty enjoying cultural facilities. Meanwhile, some people dislike to use the village community centers mainly because there is few programs for leisure or each one has a different personality or they don't have enough money to pay for the membership fee. Second, according to the survey on leisure for the elders in village community centers, there are few leisure programs. For men, they spend time by playing Baduk, Janggi, Hwatu and drinking. Meanwhile, women spend time by meeting with friends, listening to radio and TV watching. There are almost nothing to improve leisure activities such as hobby, recreation and health etc. Male elders using centers are suffering from health problems, economic difficulty, and lack of leisure activities, meanwhile, female elders are suffering from loneliness, health problems, and economic difficulty. Third, according to the survey on improving the leisure program of village community center, elders preferred health related programs to improve leisure activities. The most necessary leisure activities in village community center are hobby classrooms, health programs and group travelling. They preferred health related programs for leisure in village community center. Based upon the reality described above, improving the village community centers as leisure facilities is considered to be important for the welfare well of elders in rural areas.

A Study on the Classification of Type for the Village Community Center (마을회관 유형 분류에 관한 연구)

  • Changes in society organization of rural villages in our country are caused by aging society and lessening of economic activity population aggravates the economy of rural villages. With this, it joins in with the aging of village community center, the representative center space of the rural village and therefore, it is a point of view where the change is necessary in the size and the side of function. The research which it sees is made on-the-spot inspection and literature investigation compensate in behalf of 25 administrative village community centers led in the object by grasping present status and drew up the layout sketches and plane surface degrees of the village community centers. By referring to the photographs and the topographical maps taken in the spot, it was able to divide the village community centers into side of arrangement, side of plane surface and side of form and managed to seize the characters, problems and improvable directions of each of them. The research result could be used as a guidable provision and be applied in the fundamental research in developing model of village community centers during space planning in the future.

Efficient Usage Plan of Village Community Center for the Welfare of the Elderly in Rural Areas - Evaluation of the Alternatives of Village Community Center by Elderly Residents - (농촌노인의 복지향상을 위한 마을회관의 공간활용방안(2) - 마을회관 대안에 대한 노인의 평가 -)

  • The study was intended to suggest the design alternatives and guidelines of village community center as a common living space for the elderly in rural area. First, two design alternatives were derived from the previous research which examined the conditions and old persons' needs of village community center. Then, the design guidelines were proposed on the basis of the previous research and the elderly's evaluation for those two alternatives. The subjects were 85 old residents who were more than 60 years old and lived in rural area in Gyungnam. The interview was carried out using a questionnaire, models, and isometrics of two alternatives. The subjects evaluated positively both of two alternatives. The design guidelines of village community center were derived as follows: Both of two alternatives can be used as a model of village community center. The dining and living space in the center should be opened and large. Both of indoor and outdoor toilet should be arranged in village community center. Also, each toilet for man and woman should be separated.

  • In the village, the community consciousness of members appears as a landscape characteristic according to the passage of time. In addition, when the landscape of the village is stabilized, the relationship between members is strengthened. Urban villages change and become outdated depending on social conditions. So, it investigates and analyzes the landscape data of the village and the status of the community. The Jeonju Hanok village, which is the subject of the study, was restored from an slum urban village through urban regeneration projects. The village is a tourist attraction with more than 10 million tourists. However, as the commerce in the village was strengthened, the function of the village was weakening. Also, the existing village landscape was changing for commercial purposes. The current village is in a situation where the restored landscape can be changed again. Therefore, efforts are needed to maintain the landscape of the village and restore its function. Jeonju Hanok village needed a member's perspective, not a resident's perspective. Lastly, the relationship between members can be strengthened only when the village landscape is stable.
