An Efficient Transmission Plan for Multimedia Data Transmission (멀티미디어 데이터 전송을 위한 효율적인 전송 계획)

  • Smoothing is a transmission plan where variable rate video data is converted to a constant bit rate stream. Among them are CBA, MCBA, MVBA, e-PCRTT and others. e-PCRTT algorithm, which was improved from PCRTT, restricts the number of rate changes with fixed-size run. This causes unnecessary rate changes when run size is small and buffer size is large. In this paper, to overcome a shortcoming of e-PCRTT algorithm, a smoothing algorithm is proposed, which is improved from e-PCRTT, where a transmission rate transmits more intervalsl as possible. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed algorithm outperformed e-PCRTT algorithm. In order to show the performance, various evaluation factors were used such as the number of transmission rate changes, peak rate, transmission rate variability and so on.

Streaming RFID: Robust Stream Transmission over Passive RFID

  • This paper proposes the streaming radio frequency identification (RFID) protocol to support robust data streaming in a passive communication, which is extended from the ISO18000-6 Type C RFID standard. By observing and modeling the unique bit error behavior through detailed analysis in this paper, we found that performance is significantly limited by inaccurate and unstable link frequencies as well as low SNR which are inevitable for passive devices. Based on the analysis, we propose a simple and efficient protocol to adaptively insert extra error control sequences in a packet for tolerating tough link condition while maximizing the throughput and preserving the minimal implementation cost. To evaluate effectiveness of our proposal in real-time streaming applications, we experimented on real-time H.264 video streaming and prototyped the system on FPGA. To our best knowledge, our paper is the first work to take analytical approach for maximizing the throughput and demonstrate the possibility of the realtime multimedia streaming transmission in the passive RFID system.

Comparative Analysis of Day and Night Time Video Accuracy to Calculate the Flood Runoff Using Surface Image Velocimeter (SIV) (표면영상유속계(SIV)를 활용한 홍수유출량 산정 시 주·야간영상의 정확도 비교분석)

  • This study analyzed the velocimetry of runoff and measured the flood discharge by applying the SIV (Surface Image Velocimetrer) to the daytime and nighttime flow image data with special reference to Seong-eup Bridge at Cheonmi stream of Jeju during the flow by the severe rainstorm on May 27, 2013. A 1000W lighting apparatus with more than 150 lux was installed in order to collect proper nighttime flow image applied to the SIV. Its value was compared and analyzed with the velocity value of the fixed electromagnetic wave surface velocimetry (Kalesto) at the same point to check the accuracy and applicability of the measured velocity of flow. As a result, determination coefficient $R^2$ values were 0.891 and 0.848 respectively in line with the velocity distribution of the daytime and nighttime image and the flow volume measured with Kalesto was approximately 18.2% larger than the value measured with the SIV.

An efficient VLSI Implementation of the 2-D DCT with the Algorithm Decomposition (알고리즘 분해를 이용한 2-D DCT)

  • This paper introduces a VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit) implementation of the 2-D Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) with an application to image and video coding. This implementation, which is based upon a state space model, uses both algorithm and data partitioning to achieve high efficiency. With this implementation, the amount of data transfers between the processing elements (PEs) are reduced and all the data transfers are limitted to be local. This system accepts the input as a progressively scanned data stream which reduces the hardware required for the input data control module. With proper ordering of computations, a matrix transposition between two matrix by matrix multiplications, which is required in many 2-D DCT systems based upon a row-column decomposition, can be also removed. The new implementation scheme makes it feasible to implement a single 2-D DCT VLSI chip which can be easily expanded for a larger 2-D DCT by cascading these chips.

Implementation of efficient multi-view system through function distribution in digital multi-channel broadcasting service

  • In recent digital broadcasting, up to 250 channels are multiplexed and transmitted. The channel transmission is made in the form of MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) and transmits one channel (Video, Audio). In order to check if many broadcast channels are transmitted normally, in multi-channel multi-view system, ability of real-time monitoring is required. In order to monitor efficient multi-channel, a distributed system in which functions and load are distributed should be implemented. In the past, we used an inefficient system that gave all of the functionality to a piece of hardware, which limited the channel acceptance and required a lot of resources. In this paper, we implemented a distributed multi-view system which can reduce resources and monitor them economically through efficient function and load balancing. It is able to implement efficient system by taking charge of decoding, resizing and encoding function in specific server and viewer function in separate server. Through this system, the system was stabilized, the investment cost was reduced by 19.7%, and the wall monitor area was reduced by 52.6%. Experimental results show that efficient real-time channel monitoring for multi-channel digital broadcasting is possible.

  • Recently the performance of GPU is increasing much faster compared to GPU and GPU is used for various application programs. In this paper, MPEG-2 Decoder is implemented based on a GPU programming language, CG. The proposed methodology is to perform block rendering with texture data according to video standard with very high parallelism by using the pipeline of GPU which is a stream processing structure. To reduce the data bandwidth between system memory and GPU, local memory is used for graphic card. According to the experiment, the proposed scheme shows performance improvement by more than 2 times compared to CPU based scheme.

  • A realization for digital multimedia receiving system using Conditional Access System is presented in this paper. The key word for descrambling is make from smart card and Conditional Access System, a Stabilization is grow up in the method. It is possible to decoding that of average 15 fame/second of H.264 video format and that 24Khz${\sim}$48Khz audio sample rate using dual processor that of high performance DSP and RISC. This system is evaluated correct descrambling procedure in test stream added that signed user data.

  • 본 논문에서는 HDTV(High Definition TV) 방송수신을 위한 DSP기반의 HD급 비디오/오디오 디코더 시스템을 개발하고 그 성능을 확인하였다. DSP 플랫폼은 TI사의 TMS320C6415를 대상으로 하였으며 TI의 DSP RTOS인 DSP/BIOS를 이용하여 방송스트림인 TS (Transport Stream)을 분리하기 위한 TS Demuxer, MPEC-2 비디오 디코더 및 AC-3 오디오 디코더 알고리즘을 통합하였으며, 각각의 알고리즘은 대상 DSP 플랫폼인 TMS320C64x에 맞게 고정소수점 구조화 및 최적화를 실시하였다. 테스트를 위한 시스템은 스트리밍을 위한 호스트 PC와 PCI버스를 통해 연결된 DSP보드로 구성하였으며 실제 HDTV방송용 스트림과 SD급 스트림을 이용하여 성능을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 PC 환경에서 지상파 디지털 멀티미디어 방송(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, DMB)을 수신할 수 있는 PC 기반 지상파 DMB 수신기용 백엔드 시스템 개발에 대해 서술한다. 지상파 DMB는 기존의 지상파 아날로그 또는 디지털 TV에 비해 탁월한 이동 수신 성능을 보인다. 본 논문에서는 국내 지상파 DMB 표준안에 부합하는 수신기의 백엔드 (back-end)를 PC 환경에서 소프트웨어로 구현하였다. 지상파 DMB는 유럽의 디지털 오디오 방송(Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB) 표준인 EUREKA-147을 기반으로 MPEG-4 표준에 의한 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공한다. 지상파 DMB의 멀티미디어 서비스는 MPEG-4 AVC(Advance Video Coding) 압축 비디오와 BSAC(Bit Slice Arithmetic Coding) 압축 오디오를 MPEG-4 시스템의 SL(Sync Layer) 표준으로 패킷화 후 MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream)에 실어 DAB의 스티림 모드를 통해 전송하는 방식을 사용한다. 본 논문에서는, 지상파 DMB 수신을 위한 프론트엔드(front-end)는 외장형 기기를 이용하고, 이로부터 USB 인터페이스를 통해 기저대역 다중화 스트림을 PC 상으로 업로드한 뒤, 소프트웨어에 의해 역다중화하고 압축을 푼 후, 오디오와 비디오를 재생하는 지상파 DMB 백엔드 시스템을 구현하고 이를 검증하였다.

Scene Change Detection in MPEG-1 Video Stream using MAcroblock Information (매크로블록 정보를 이용한 MPEG-1 비디오 스트림의 장면 변화검출)

  • 비디오 데이터를 이용한 응용 프로그램을 개발하기위해서 비디오 데이터베이슬ㄹ 구축하고자하는 경우에는 비디오의 내용(Content)에 따라 자동으로 장면 변화를 검출(Scene Change Detection)하는 기술이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-1 형식으로 저장된 비디오 데이터에 대하여 장면의 변화를 자동적으로 검출할 수 있는 방법을 제안하고 실험을 통하여 그 유용성을 보인다. 제안한 검출 방법에서는 B 프레임의 각 매크로 블록들에 대하여 시간적으로 과거 B 프레임의 대응되는 매크로블록의 타입과 비교를 하고, 이런 각 매크로블록들에 대한 비교 결과의 합이 입계치보다 큰 경우에 장면이 변한 것으로 판단한다. 제안한 방법에서는 입력 비디오 스트림에서 B 프레임의 매크로블록층 정보만을 이용하여 I프레임과 P 프레임의 장면 변화 검출도 가능하므로 정교한 검출이 가능하다. 또한 이런 검출 방법은 단순히 한 B 프레임안의 매크로 블록개수만을 조사하여 장면 변화여부를 검출하는 기존의 방법에 대하여 각 매크로블록의 타입 정보뿐만 아니라 위치 정보도 이용하기 때문에 장면 변화 검출이 견고하다. MPEG-1 형식으로 부호화한 뉴스 및 영화 비디오 데이터에 대한 실험에 의하면, 본 논문에서 제안한 검출 방법은 95% 이상의 정확성을 보임을 알 수있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 MPEG-1 비디오 장면변화검출방법은 MPEG-1 형식의 비디오 데이터를 이용한 디지털 라이브러리 등의 구축등에 유용하게 사용될수 있을 것이다.
