Video Quality Metric Using One-Dimensional Histograms of Motion Vectors (움직임 벡터의 1차원 히스토그램을 이용한 비디오 화질 평가 척도)

  • This paper proposes a novel reduced-reference assessment method for video quality assessment, in which one-dimensional (1-D) histograms of motion vectors (MVs) are used as features of videos. The proposed method is more efficient than the conventional methods in view of computation time, because the proposed quality metric decodes MVs directly from video stream in the parsing process instead of reconstructing the distorted video at the receiver. Moreover, in view of data size, the propose method is efficient because a sender transmits 1-D histograms of MVs accumulated over whole input video sequences. Here, we use 1-D histograms of MVs accumulated over the whole video sequences, which is different from the conventional methods that assessed each image independently. For testing the similarity between histograms, we use histogram intersection and histogram difference methods. We compare the proposed method with the conventional methods for 52 video clips, which are coded under varying bit rate, image size, and frame rate. Experimental results show that the proposed method is more efficient than the conventional methods and that the proposed method is more similar to the mean opinion score (MOS) than conventional algorithms.

  • Currently, The terrestrial MMS(Multi Mode Service) is considering to be adapted in the Korea. The objective and subjective video quality test was carried out to verify the current TV channel's video quality degradation by the MMS. In the objective assessment, MMS system showed better PSNR than current system. In the subjective assesment result, It's hard to find the perceive video quality degradation at overall assesment. Even though, The MMS's video quality will be improved at the documentary and entertainment genre. Comparing with the previous research at 2006 and 2008, It's the time to give the benefit of broadcasting technology to the people.

Blind Image Quality Assessment on Gaussian Blur Images

  • Multimedia is a ubiquitous and indispensable part of our daily life and learning such as audio, image, and video. Objective and subjective quality evaluations play an important role in various multimedia applications. Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) is used to indicate the perceptual quality of a distorted image, while its reference image is not considered and used. Blur is one of the common image distortions. In this paper, we propose a novel BIQA index for Gaussian blur distortion based on the fact that images with different blur degree will have different changes through the same blur. We describe this discrimination from three aspects: color, edge, and structure. For color, we adopt color histogram; for edge, we use edge intensity map, and saliency map is used as the weighting function to be consistent with human visual system (HVS); for structure, we use structure tensor and structural similarity (SSIM) index. Numerous experiments based on four benchmark databases show that our proposed index is highly consistent with the subjective quality assessment.

Analysis on Subjective Image Quality Assessments for 4K-UHD Video Viewing Environments (4K-UHD 비디오 시청환경 특성분석을 위한 주관적 화질평가 분석)

  • In this paper, we perform subjective visual quality assessments on UHD video for UHD TV services and analyze the assessment results. Demands for video services have been increased with availabilities of DTV, Internet and personal media equipments. With this trend, the demands for high definition video have also been increasing. Currently, 2K-HD ($1920{\times}1080$) video have been widely consumed over DTV, DVD, digital camcoders, security cameras and other multimedia terminals in various types, and recently digital cinema contents of 4K-UHD($3840{\times}2160$) have been popularly produced and the cameras, beam projects, display panels that support for 4K-UHD video start to come out into multimedia markets. Also it is expected that 4K-UHD service will appear soon in broadcasting and telecommunications environments. Therefore, in this paper, subjective assessments of visual quality on resolutions, color formats, frame rates and compression rates have been carried to provide basis information for standardization of signal specification of UHD video and viewing environments for future UHDTV. As the analysis on the assessments, UHD video exhibits better subjective visual quality than HD by the evaluators. Also, the 4K-UHD test sequences in YUV444 shows better subjective visual quality than the 4K-UHD test sequences in YUV422 and YUV420, but there is little perceptual difference on 4K-UHD test sequences between YUV422 and YUV420 formats. For the comparison between different frame rates, 4K-UHD test sequences of 60fps gives better subjective visual quality than those of 30fps. For bit-depth comparison, HD test sequences in 10-bit depth were little differentiated from those in 8-bit depth in subject visual quality assessment. Lastly, the larger the PSNR values of the reconstructed 4K-UHD test sequences are, the higher the subjective visual quality is. Against the viewing distances, the differences among encoded 4K-UHD test sequences were less distinguished in longer distances from the display.

  • In the present paper, a new framework, which is called visual SSIM (VSSIM), is proposed by incorporating crucial human factors into the SSIM. The human factors are foveation, luminance, frequency and motion information. Subjective quality test compliant with the Video Quality Expert Group (VQEG) multimedia group test plan shows that the visual SSIM is more correlated with the subjective quality result than the conventional SSIM.

  • Most of multimedia video coding algorithms are lossy schemes and several kinds of spatial and temporal artifacts are inevitable. Flickering, which is the most typical coding artifact in time domain, is mainly due to fact that the quality of coded sequence fluctuates as the quantization parameter is adjusted for rate control. In this paper, we analyzed the effect of quality variation according to the characteristics of video sequence when the I-frames are periodically inserted. And we proposed the FR(Full Reference)-based assessment algorithm to measure the amount of flickering artifacts in the coded video. It is discovered that the flickering becomes critical when the level of quality is intermediate and is affected by the amount of detail or movement, the size of object, and camera parameters. The proposed measurement algorithm shows is well consistent with HVS(Human Visual System).

  • 2012년 12월 31일을 기점으로 지상파 아날로그 방송이 종료되고 디지털 방송으로 전환되게 되어, 아날로그 방송에서는 크게 느껴지지 못했던, HDTV 영상 화질에 대한 문제가 대두되고 있다. 방송에서 쓰이는 영상의 경우 대부분 원본은 Tape형식이고, 이를 디지털방송에 맞는 형식으로 압축하여 인코딩한 이후 방송에 적합한 형태로 가공하여 서비스하게 되는데, 이때 MPEG압축 방식에 의해 발생하는 블로킹과 같은 새로운 증상에 대한 문제점이 나타나게 된다. 본 논문에서는, HDTV 영상 화질에서의 일반적으로 인간의 시각이 민감하게 반응하는 블록형 잡음에 대하여, 원본비참조 방법으로, 블록들에 대한 객관적인 점수화 방법에 대하여 연구한다. 본 연구를 통해 HDTV의 고품질화와 정보통신 영상 발전에 기여 할 것이다.

Analysis of Major Factors Related to Smartphone Addiction According to Gender Differences in Health College Students (보건계열 대학생들의 성별 차이에 따른 스마트폰 중독 관련 주요 요인 분석)

  • Purpose : This study was to compare and analyze major factors related to smartphone addiction according to the gender of health-related college students. Methods : 720 people who voluntarily participated and agreed to fill out the questionnaire were randomly sampled. Smartphone addiction was measured using the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Version (SAS-SV), sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), anxiety symptoms were measured using the self-assessment anxiety scale (SAS), and depression symptoms were measured using the self-assessment depression scale (SDS). In addition, the age of each individual and the main function of smartphone use were also investigated. Results : The prevalence of smartphone addiction was higher among female students than male students (p<.05), while male students mainly played games and female students mainly used multimedia (video/music) viewing and social networking services (p<.05). In addition, male students showed a high association with smartphone addiction in the group where games were the main function of smartphone use, the group with low sleep quality, and the group with anxiety symptoms (p<.05), but for female students, multimedia (video/music) Or, the group in which social networking service is the main function of smartphone use, the group with low sleep quality, and the group with symptoms of anxiety and depression showed a high correlation with smartphone addiction (p<.05). Conclusion : It is expected that the results of this study will be used as basic data for providing customized solutions considering the characteristics of smartphone addicts.

  • AAPM CT performance for special medical equipment quality control checks using a standard phantom for evaluation, using the evaluator's subjective assessment as to minimize errors due computerized assessment program to evaluate their usefulness. Quantitative evaluation with CT attenuation coefficient and the noise measurement, the uniformity measurement, the slice thickness measurement, contrast resolution of the measurement, a phantom image of the spatial resolution determined by the evaluation program is evaluated as self-extracting the result after processing the image, CT uniformity measurement for the evaluation that was smaller and the standard deviation of a video image processing more uniform slice thickness measurements it is difficult to evaluate due to the difference of the ratio of the measured value of the phantom image. Contrast resolution was measured cylindrical diameter 6th evaluate the shape of a circle obtained a mean value and a standard deviation of diameters, the spatial resolution of the group of source, including acceptance criteria automatically extracted result as a result of both the number of the extracted circularIt appeared. Evaluate the source image and video processing, and video to qualitative evaluation by gross were processed video image is shown excellent results. If the evaluators in order to minimize the errors of subjective judgment based on the results of the above should be done with a quantitative evaluation and qualitative evaluation utilizes a computerized assessment program is considered that further evaluation be made more efficient.

  • Performance of digital video watermarking is an assessment that hides a lot of information in digital videos. Therefore, it is required to find a way that enables to store lots of bits of data into a high quality video of the frequency area of digital contents. Hence, this paper designs a watermarking system improving security with an enhancing watermarking based on invisible watermarking and embedding an watermarking on LH and HL subband and its subband by transforming wavelet after the extraction of luminance component from the frames of video by compromising robustness and invisible of watermarking elements. The performance analysis of security of watermarking is carried out with a statistic method, and makes an assessment of robustness against variety of attacks to invisible watermarking. We can verify the security of watermarking against variety of attacks by testing robustness and invisible through carrying out general signal processing like noise addition, lossy compression, and Low-Pass filtering.
