효율적인 압축 알고리즘을 이용한 실용화 수준의 DVR 시스템 (An Industry-Strength DVR System using an Efficient Compression Algorithm)

  • 본 논문은 실용화 레벨에서의 디지털 영상기록 (Digital Video Recording: DVR) 구현을 기술한다. 또한 입력 영상을 배경과 목표물 영역의 두 가지 영역으로 분리 처리하여 분리된 영역별로 중요도를 고려하여 서로 다른 압축 기법을 적용함으로써 효율적인 압축부호화를 수행할 수 있는 방안을 제안한다. 본 알고리즘은 영상 압축 부호화 기법으로서 영역분할을 통해 Macro block 단위로 물체 영역과 배경 영역을 재구성해서 부호화에 이용하는 방식이다. 제안된 알고리즘은 매우 효율적인 압축 성능을 보여주며, 저 전송률 상황에서도 높은 질의 영상을 복원할 수 있다.

국제 무역박람회의 전시영상콘텐츠 분석 -ISE 2013을 중심으로 (An Analysis of Exhibition Video Contents in International Trade Show-Focused on the ISE 2013)

  • Recently the trade show is a massive marketing effort of a particular industry and introduces new products to potential customers, as well as the ability to elevate the brand's image and corporate identity. It is increasing its importance as a venue of communication. In these changes, the exhibition is required to have the emotional approach to enhance the dynamic and creative image of companies. Therefore, the product itself as well as the importance of various visual contents of the exhibition is increasing positive effect of the image and marketing on their products. In this sense, this study analyzes video contents of the exhibition that was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Europe's largest display show 'ISE (Integrated Systems Europe)' in 2013, focusing on the domestic company, Samsung, LG Electronics and other four foreign companies. The analysis is based on the Herbert Zettl's applied media aesthetics related to the video contents, through which we can find the way to the development of exhibition video contents making for Trade show.

  • In one VTR(Video Tape Recorder), two or more heads are used to record or reproduce video signals. To obtain a uniform quality of a VTR, video heads should have similar charcteristics such as geometrical shapes and electro-magnetic performances. This research is aimed to develop a visual inspection system that can measure four geoemtrical parameters;HO, HI, Tw and Cw. To obtain a high realable results, DSP based image board and target based image processing algorithms were used. A series of experiments was performed for one thousands of video heads. From observation of the experimental results, the system is found to show good performance for inspection of video heads.

An Efficient Requantization for Transcoding of MPEG Video

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient transcoding of MPEG video. Transcoding is the process of converting a compressed video format to another different compressed video format. We propose an simple and efficient transcoding by requantization in which MPEG coded video at high bit-rate is converted into MPEG bitstream at lower bit-rate. To reduce a image quality degradation, we use HVS(Human Visual System) that is the effect that visibility of noise is less in high activity regions than in low activity regions. By using the effect, the part of image in high activity region is coarsely quantized without seriously degrading the image quality. Experimental results show that the proposed method can provide good performance.

Study on 3 DoF Image and Video Stitching Using Sensed Data

  • This paper proposes a method to generate panoramic images by combining conventional feature extraction algorithms (e.g., SIFT, SURF, MPEG-7 CDVS) with sensed data from inertia sensors to enhance the stitching results. The challenge of image stitching increases when the images are taken from two different mobile phones with no posture calibration. Using inertia sensor data obtained by the mobile phone, images with different yaw, pitch, and roll angles are preprocessed and adjusted before performing stitching process. Performance of stitching (e.g., feature extraction time, inlier point numbers, stitching accuracy) between conventional feature extraction algorithms is reported along with the stitching performance with/without using the inertia sensor data. In addition, the stitching accuracy of video data was improved using the same sensed data, with discrete calculation of homograph matrix. The experimental results for stitching accuracies and speed using sensed data are presented in this paper.

  • 본 논문은 사용자의 인터랙션(user interaction)을 고려하여, 사용자가 관심을 가지는 영역에 대해서 최적화된 비디오 콘텐츠를 제공받을 수 있는 비디오 서비스 시스템을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 사용자 인터랙티브티를 고려한 서비스 시스템은 SVC(Scalable Video Coding)의 다중 ROI를 사용한다. 또한 제안된 시스템에서는 다양한 방식의 비디오 품질과, 다중 ROI에 대한 선택 과정에서 콘텐츠 소비 주체와 시스템간의 쌍방향 제어 수단을 개발하고 콘텐츠의 관심 영역 지정 과정에서 사용자의 인터렉션 정보를 이용하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템의 유효성을 테스트하기 위해 사용자의 인터랙션에 의해 변환하는 SVC 콘텐트를 만들었고, 사용자 단말에 인터렉션 기능으로 SVC 콘텐츠를 디코딩하는 시스템을 구현하여 유용성을 검증하였다.

  • As multimedia application services on high-speed information network have been rapidly developed, the need for the video information management system that provides an efficient way for users to retrieve video data is growing. In this paper, we propose a video data model that integrates free annotations, image features, and spatial-temporal features for video purpose of improving content-based retrieval of video data. The proposed video data model can act as a generic video data model for multimedia applications, and support free annotations, image features, spatial-temporal features, and structure information of video data within the same framework. We also propose the video query language for efficiently providing query specification to access video clips in the video data. It can formalize various kinds of queries based on the video contents. Finally we design and implement the query processing engine for efficient video data retrieval on the proposed metadata model and the proposed video query language.

  • Commercial video scope use CCD sensor and frame grabber for image capture and A/D interface but application limited by input resolution and high cost. In this paper we introduce portable video scope using CMOS sensor, USB pen and tuner card (low frame grabber) in place of commercial CCD sensor and frame grabber. Our video scope serves as an essential link between advancing commercial technology and research, providing cost effective solutions for educational, engineering and medical applications across an entire spectrum of needs. The software implementation is done using Direct Show in second version after initial trials using First version VFW (video for window), which gave very low frame rate. Our video scope operates on windows 98, ME, XP, 2000. The drawback of our video scope is crossover problem in output images caused due to interpolation, which has to be rectified for more efficient performance.

동영상 전화기용 다중 스레드 비디오 코딩 프로세서 (Multithread video coding processor for the videophone)

  • The architecture of a programmable video codec IC is described that employs multiple vector processors in a single chip. The vector processors operate in parallel and communicate with one another through on-chip shared memories. A single scalar control processor schedules each vector processor independently to achieve real-tiem video coding with special vector instructions. With programmable interconnection buses, the proposed architecture performs multi-processing of tasks and data in video coding. Therefore, it can provide good parallelism as well as good programmability. especially, it can operate multithread video coding, which processes several independent image sequences simultaneously. We explain its scheduling, multithred video coding, and vector processor architectures. We implemented a prototype video codec with a 0.8um CMOS cell-based technology for the multi-standard videophone. This codec can execute video encoding and decoding simultaneously for the QCIF image at a frame rate of 30Hz.
