  • In this paper, a distributed image coding scheme for multi-view video through an efficient generation of side information is proposed. A distributed video coding technique corrects the errors in the side information, which is generated with the original image, by using the channel coding technique at the decoder. Therefore, the more correct the generated side information is, the better the performance of distributed video coding. The proposed technique is to apply the distributed video coding schemes to the image coding for multi-view video. It generates side information by selectively and efficiently using both 3-dimensional warping based on the depth map with spatially adjacent frames and motion-compensated temporal interpolation with temporally adjacent frames. In this scheme the difference between the adjacent frames, the sizes of the motion vectors for the adjacent blocks, and the edge information are used as the selection criteria. From the experiments, it was observed that the quality of the side information generated by the proposed technique was improved by the average peak signal-to-noise ratio of 0.97dB than the one by motion-compensated temporal interpolation or 3-dimensional warping. The result from analyzing the rate-distortion curves revealed that the proposed scheme could reduce the bit-rate by 8.01% on average at the same peak signal-to-noise ratio value, compared to previous work.

  • There is a rapid increase in the use of digital video information in recent years. Especially, user requires the environment which retrieves video from passive access to active access, to be more efficiently. we need to implement video retrieval system including video parsing, clustering, and browsing to satisfy user's requirement. In this paper, we first divide video sequence to shots which are primary unit for automatic indexing, using a hybrid method with mixing histogram method and pixel-based method. After the shot boundaries are detected, corresponding key frames can be extracted. Key frames are very important portion because they help to understand overall contents of video. In this paper, we first analyze camera operation in video and then select different number of key frames depend on shot complexity. At last, we compose panorama images from shots which are containing panning or tilting in order to provide more useful and understandable browsing environment to users.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that distributes processor time to the tasks decoding encoded frames with a goal maximizing total QoS (quality of services) of video conference system. An encoded frame has such a characteristic that the QoS of recovered frame image also increases as the processor time given for decoding the frame gets to increase. Thus, the quality of decoded image for each frame can be represented as a QoS function of the amount of service time given to decode. In addition, every stream of video conference has close time-dependency between continuous frames belonging to the same stream. Based on the time-dependency and QoS functions, we propose an on-line frame scheduling algorithm which does not schedule all frames in the system but just a few frames while maximizing total QoS of video streams in the conference. The simulation results show that, as the system load gets to increase, the proposed algorithm compared to the existing EDF algorithm can reduce the quality of decoded frame images more smoothly and show the movements of conference attendees more naturally without short cutting.

  • This paper proposed the face tracking method which can be effectively applied to the robot's vision system. The proposed algorithm tracks the facial areas after detecting the area of video motion. Movement detection of video images is done by using median filter and erosion and dilation operation as a method for removing noise, after getting the different images using two continual frames. To extract the skin color from the moving area, the color information of sample images is used. The skin color region and the background area are separated by evaluating the similarity by generating membership functions by using MIN-MAX values as fuzzy data. For the face candidate region, the eyes are detected from C channel of color space CMY, and the mouth from Q channel of color space YIQ. The face region is tracked seeking the features of the eyes and the mouth detected from knowledge-base. Experiment includes 1,500 frames of the video images from 10 subjects, 150 frames per subject. The result shows 95.7% of detection rate (the motion areas of 1,435 frames are detected) and 97.6% of good face tracking result (1,401 faces are tracked).

  • Recently, remote sensing video applications have become increasingly important in many wireless networks. Distributed compressive video sensing (DCVS) framework in these applications has been studied to reduce encoding complexity and to simultaneously capture and compress video data. Specially, a motion compensated block compressed sensing with smoothed projected Landweber (MC-BCS-SPL) has been actively researched for one useful algorithm of DCVS schemes, However, conventional MC-BCS-SPL schemes do not provide good visual qualities in reconstructed Wyner-Ziv (WZ) frames. In this paper, the conventional schemes of MC-BCS-SPL are described and then upgraded to provide better visual qualities in WZ frames by introducing reliability estimate between adjacent key frames and by constructing efficiently motion-compensated interpolated frames. Through experimental results, it is shown that the proposed algorithm is effective in providing better visual qualities than conventional algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust blind watermarking scheme for high-definition video. In the embedding process, luminance component of each frame is transformed by 2-dimensional fast Fourier transform (2D FFT). A secret key is used to generate a matrix of random numbers for the security of watermark information. The matrix is transformed by inverse steerable pyramid transform (SPT). We embed the watermark into the low and mid-frequency of 2D FFT coefficients with the transformed matrix. In the extraction process, the 2D FFT coefficients of each frame and the transformed matrix are transformed by SPT respectively, to produce two oriented sub-bands. We extract the watermark from each frame by cross-correlating two oriented sub-bands. If a video is degraded by some attacks, the watermarks of frames contain some errors. Thus, we use an ensemble position-based error correcting algorithm to estimate the errors and correct them. The experimental results show that the proposed watermarking algorithm is imperceptible and moreover is robust against various attacks. After embedding 64 bits of watermark into each frame, the average peak signal-to-noise ratio between original frames and embedded frames is 45.7 dB.

  • In this paper, we proposed automatically video colorization method with partial color sources in first frame. The input color sources are propagated to other gray pixels with the high correlation between two pixels. To robust again the errors in portion of the weak boundary, we calculate correlation between two pixels using dual-path comparison. Video colorization method should maintain the color connectivity between frames. Accordingly, we define reliability of primarily color by compare the color of neighborhood frames. We perform the color correction by blending neighboring color when the reliability of primarily color is low. We formalize this premise with energy function, and find the color to minimize the energy function. In this way, using property of video, we reduce the error caused by propagation and get result of natural changes between frames. Through simulation results, we show the proposed method derive a natural result more than previous method.

  • The objective of this research is to develope a process of integrating video image into digital map. In order to reach the research objective, the work includes the development of georeferencing technique for video images, the development of pilot system and the assesment process. Georeferencing technique for video images is composed of DGPS positioning, filtering of abnormal points, map conflation, indexing locations for key frames via time tag and indexing locations for total frames. By using the proposed building process, we could find the result that the accuracy of image capturing test points is $92.8%({\pm}2\;frames)$. The eventual meaning of this study is that it is possible to find a new conception of digital map, which overcomes a limitation of exiting two dimensional digital map.

  • For the performance analysis and traffic control of ATM networks carrying video sequences, need an appropriate video traffic model. In this paper, we propose a new traffic model for MPEG compressed videos which are widely used for any type of video applications at th emoment. The proposed modeling scheme uses scene-based traffic characteristics and considers the correlation between frames of consecutiv GOPs. Using a simple scene detection algorithm, scene changes are modeled by state transitions and the number of GOPs of a scene state is modeled by a geometric distirbution. Frames of a scene stte are modeled by mean I, P, and B frame size. For more accurate traffic modeling, quantization errors (residual bits) that the state transition model using mean values has are compensated by autoregressive processes. We show that our model very well captures the traffic chracteristics of the original videos by performance analysis in terms of autocorrelation, histogram of frame bits genrated by the model, and cell loss rate in the ATM multiplexer with limited buffers. Our model is able to perrorm translations between levels (i.e., GOP, frame, and cell levels) and to estimate very accurately the stochastic characteristics of the original videos by each level.

  • Intensive computational complexity is an obstacle of enabling multiview video coding for real-time applications. In this paper, we present a fast macroblock (MB) mode selection algorithm for B frames which are based on the computational complexity analyses between the MB mode selection and reference frame selection. Three strategies are proposed to reduce the coding complexity jointly. First, the temporal correlation of MB modes between current MB and its temporal corresponding MBs is utilized to reduce computational complexity in determining the optimal MB mode. Secondly, Lagrangian cost of SKIP mode is compared with that of Inter $16{\times}16$ modes to early terminate the mode selection process. Thirdly, reference frame correlation among different Inter modes is exploited to reduce the number of reference frames. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can promote the encoding speed by 3.71~7.22 times with 0.08dB PSNR degradation and 2.03% bitrate increase on average compared with the joint multiview video model.
