  • This paper presents property of the squeeze mode type mount using Magneto-Rheological fluid (MR fluid). The mount can isolate multi-directional vibrations, and also effectively reduce the vibrations in a wide range of disturbance frequency by controling the applied magnetic field. The shape of the mount is the same that of squeeze film damper. In the present work, the performance of this mount was experimentally investigated according to changing the magnetic field strength.   • In the industrial motor drive systems, a torsional vibration is often generated because of the elastic elements in torque transmission. One of general methods for the system is H$\infty$ controller to suppress the torsional vibration and reject the torque disturbance. vibration and reject the torque disturbance. Moreover, the two-degrees-of-freedom controller, which includes the H$\infty$ controller, is designed in order to improve the command following property. In this paper, we propose a new H$\infty$ controller with partial state feedback. This method having simple structure satisfies with the fast command following property and the attenuation of disturbances and vibrations simultaneously, just like the complicated TDOF H$\infty$ controller

  • This study proposes a method of an equivalent bell model in order to tune the beat period of a Korean bell. In a Korean bell having a slight asymmetry, each circumferential mode splits into a mode pair which has a slight difference in frequency, and the interaction of the mode pair makes a beat in vibration and sound. An equivalent bell model which consists of an axi-symmetric bell and an equivalent point mass, has the same mode property as in a real bell. The equivalent bell model is constructed by the finite element analysis based upon the theory of a revolutionary shell Using the equivalent bell model, the beat period is predicted when the bell thickness is locally decreased to improve the beat property. The predicted result is verified by experiment on a test bell. The proposed method is useful to save the time required for tuning the beat period of a large bell.

  • The paper represents the stability of a rotor system with the squeeze film damper (SFD) using an electromagnet. The electromagnet is installed in the inner damper of the SFD. The proposed SFD has basically property of a conventional SFD and variable damping property according to variation of the applied electric current. Therefore, when the applied current controlled, the whirling vibration of the rotor system can be effectively reduced in a wide operational speed range. In the present work, the performance of the SFD was experimentally investigated according to changing the magnetic field strength. When the applied current increased, the whirling amplitude greatly reduced and the damping ratio also increased.

  • In general, the vertical vibration problems for .strength of members and serviceability of building structures are not considered in structural design process, but the prediction of the vertical vibration is very important and essential to structural design process. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of vertical vibration in terms of the transfer of horizontal directions on the rahmen building structures. In order to examine the characteristics of vertical vibration, the modal test and the impact (heel-drop and hammer) excitation experiments were conducted several times on three building structures. The results from the experiments are analyzed and compared. with the results. The results of this study suggest that the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer in horizontal way are effected from the fundamental frequency of the slabs and excitation forces.
