With recent development of technology of high stiffness material and the structural design, the construction of high rise structures such as tall building, tower has increased. The more flexible and slender structure is vulnerable to the internal and external dynamic loads induced by earthquake, wind and traffic load. There have been great effort and many researches to minimize the influence of dynamic loads on the structure. The traditional and stable method, the application of the passive damper, is not able to comply with various dynamic loads, while the mass damper which active control technology is integrated can effectively comply with load types. Therefore, the application of active control of huge structures with AMD(Active mass damper) or HMD(Hybrid Mass damper) is increasing. Up to now, most of actuators are servomotor and hydraulic actuator. But it is known that the electromagnetic actuator applies non contacting control force, which makes the control system easier with no characteristic change depending on time. In this paper, Hybrid mass damper with electromagnetic actuator was designed and applied to building scaled structure. The performance of designed HMD tested by shake table test is included.
The effect of dead loads on dynamic responses of uniform elastic beams is examined by means of a governing equation which takes into account initial bending stress due to dead loads. First, the governing equation of beams which includes the effect of dead loads is briefly presented from the author's paper (Takabatake 1990). In the formulation the effect of dead loads is considered by strain energy produced by conservative initial stresses produced by the dead loads. Second, the effect of dead loads on dynamical responses produced by live loads in simply supported beams and clamped beams is confirmed by the results of numerical computations with the Galerkin method and Wilson-${\theta}$ method. It is shown that the dynamical responses, like dynamic deflections and bending moments produced by dynamic live loads, are decreased in a heavyweight beam when the effect of dead loads is included. Third, an approximate solution for dynamic deflections including the effect of dead loads is presented in closed-form. The proposed solution shows good in agreement with results of numerical computations with the Galerkin method and Wilson-${\theta}$ method. Finally, a method reflecting the effect of dead loads for dynamic responses of beams on the magnitude of live loads is presented by an example.
In this paper, the result of application of vibration method to the orthotropic plates with free edges supported on elastic foundation and with a pair of opposite edges under axial forces is presented. Such plates represent the concrete highway slab and hybrid composite pavement of bridges. The reinforced concrete slab can be assumed as a special orthotropic plate, as a close approximation. The highway slab is supported on elastic foundation, with free boundaries. Sometimes, the pair of edges perpendicular to the traffic direction may be subject to the axial forces. The plate is subject to the concentrated load/loads, in the form of traffic loads, or the test equipments. Finite difference method is used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for vibration analysis. The influence of the modulus of the foundation, the aspect ratio of the plate, and the magnitudes of the axial forces and the concentrated attached mass on the plate, under the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.
A study on the free vibration and linear buckling analyses of thick plates is described in this article. In order to determine the natural frequencies and buckling loads of plates, a plate element is developed by using isogeometric approach. The Non-uniform B-spline surface (NURBS) is used to represent both plate geometry and the unknown displacement field of plate. All terms required in isogeometric formulation are consistently derived by NURBS definition. The capability of the present plate element is demonstrated by using several numerical examples. From numerical results, it is found to be that the present isogeometric element can predict accurate natural frequencies and buckling loads of plates.
This study aims at the structural analysis of vibration and fatigue according to the tie rod configuration. The maximum displacement amplitude is happened at 156Hz by harmonic vibration analysis, this tie rod model can be broken as the weakest state. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sine wave' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sine wave' with the average stress of 0MPa and the amplitude stress of 570MPa, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 70%. This stress state can be shown with 140 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design on tie rod by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.
This study analyzes about front axle through the analyses of stress, fatigue and vibration. Maximum equivalent stress is shown with the frequency of 60Hz in case of the harmonic vibration analysis applied with force. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sample history' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sample history' with the average stress of 0 to $-2{\times}10^5MPa$ and the amplitude stress of 0 to $-2{\times}10^5MPa$, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 3%. This stress state can be shown with 6 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE Bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design of front axle by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.
Koreasat-3 was successfully launched by an Ariane IV launch vehicle on September 5, 1999. Although the primary purpose of the satellite is to replace Koreasat-l, it also can extend its communication service coverage over the Asia-Pacific region. A spacecraft is subjected to severe dynamic loads during launch period. To verify the safety of spacecraft under the launch environment, dynamic tests should be performed such as sine sweep, acoustic and separation shock tests. This paper presents the launch environment test results of Koreasat-3. A total of 188 acceleration responses was measured and compared with the design requirements of components and spacecraft. Dynamic characteristic change was also investigated by comparing between low-level pre/post vibration results. From the review of test results, it is concluded that Koreasat-3 was designed and manufactured with the margin of safety enough to survive the launch loads of Ariane IV.
