  • A vibration isolation system for a large reverberation chamber (1,228 $m^3$ and 1,000 ton) has been installed and verified. The reverberation chamber generates loud noise and induces high level of vibration while performing spacecraft acoustic reliability tests. The isolation system prevents vibration transfer from the chamber to the enclosure buildings. This paper describes design process and commissioning experiments of the system. Design criteria have been derived from rigid body model of the chamber. The stiffness of neoprene pads has been selected by employing finite element analysis of the reverberant chamber and isolation system. A total of 21 neoprene pads have been installed between the chamber and supporting Pedestals. A sand bag of 800kg was dropped on the chamber floor to measure the natural frequency of the isolation system. While 136.9 dB noise is generated in the chamber, absolute transmissibility of the isolation system has been measured. The measured natural frequency of the chamber is 10.2Hz, which is 80% of the predicted value. Overall transmissibility at working frequency range (25∼10.000 Hz) is less than -12.4 dB.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of the vibration isolation system using piezoelectric actuators and sensors. The active vibration absorber system consists of 4 pairs of PZT actuators bonded on aluminum plates making s- shaped device. Hence, the active system is directly connected to the passive system. The rubber attached to the end of the beam is connected to the upper base as a structural member. It allows bending thus maximizing the vertical movement generated by the piezoceramic actuators. • The operation of a Doppler wind LIDAR in a mobile environment is very sensitive to shocks and vibrations, which can cause critical failures such as misalignment of the optical path and damage to optical components. To be able to stabilize the LIDAR and to perform wind field measurements in motion, a shock absorption and vibration isolation system was designed and implemented. The performance of the vehicle-mounted Doppler wind LIDAR was tested in motion, first in a circular test route with a diameter of about 30 m and later in regular expressway traffic. The vibration isolation efficiency of the system was found to be higher than 82% in the main vibration area and shock dynamic deflection was smaller than maximal deflection of the isolator. The stability of the laser locking frequency in the same mobile environment before and after the vibration isolation system installation was also found to be greatly improved. The reliability of the vibration isolation system was confirmed by good results of the analysis of the LIDAR data, in particular the plane position indicator of the line of sight velocity and the wind profile.

  • In general, the softer the stiffness of a linear vibration isolator the better the performance of isolation can be achieved. However, the stiffness of the isolator cannot be made too soft because it needs a sufficient stiffness to hold the load. This is the most critical limitation of a linear vibration isolator. Recently, a HSLDS (High-Static-Low-Dynamic-Stiffness) magnetic vibration isolator was proposed to overcome this fundamental limitation. The suggested isolator utilizes two pairs of attracting magnets that that introduces negative stiffness. Previously, this new type of vibration isolator was merely introduced and showed a possibility of practical use. In this paper, detailed dynamics of the HSLDS magnetic isolator are studied using computer simulations. Then, the isolation performance is examined for various design parameters to aid the practical use.

  • Pulse tube-type spaceborne cryocooler is widely used to cool down the infrared sensor of observation satellites. However, such cryocooler also generates micro-vibration which is the one of main sources to seriously affect the image quality during its on-orbit operation. Therefore, to comply with the mission requirement of high resolution observation satellite, additional technical efforts have been required. In this study, we proposed a spaceborne cryocooler passive vibration isolator using SMA mesh washer, which guarantees the structural safety of both the micro-vibration disturbance source and itself under harsh launch vibration loads without an additional holding mechanism and the micro-vibration isolation performance on orbit environment. To verify the micro-vibration isolation performance of the proposed vibration isolator, we performed the micro-vibration isolation measurement test using the dedicated micro-vibration measurement device proposed in this study.

  • Launch vehicles and satellites experience severe vibration and pyroshock during the flight phase. These severe dynamic loading could result in the malfunction of electric devices which equipped in the launch vehicle and satellite. In this paper, mesh washer isolators are applied to attenuate these severe shock and vibration and isolation performances are enhanced by applying pseudoelasitic SMA wire material. Through random vibration and ground pyroshock tests, outstanding isolation performances are studied. Especially, comparison of isolation performances due to the change of pre-compressive displacement of mesh washer itself are suggested and applicablity to the adaptive vibration control are confirmed.

  • In this study new vibration isolation system was designed so as to decouple translational motion and rotational motion of a workstation as well as to maximize an efficiency of vibration isolation. Whole motion of the workstation as well as the transmitted vibration from the floor were compared at the two conditions; with and without the cradle system. It was shown that the cradle system had a clear effect to suppress the roiling motion of the workstation.

  • Active vibration isolation systems need the following performance specifications which are different from those of existing positioning systems: usage of seismic sensors, strict suppression of phase lead/lag in signal processing for sensors and actuators, excellent control in low frequency range and so on. In consideration of such specifications, a 3-DOF precision stage for vibration isolation is designed and modeled based on the physical characteristics. Then the major parameters such as spring constants and damping coefficients are valued by the system identification method using empirical transfer function. Finite element analysis is used as a verification and simulation tool throughout this research. This paper lays the foundation for the future research on the control of the active vibration isolation system.

  • Vibration isolation equipments are mostly required in precise measurement and manufacturing system. Among all the vibration isolation equipments, air-spring is the most widely used equipment because of low resonant frequency and high damping ratio. In this study, we used Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy method to design an active vibration isolation system using air-spring, and compared the fuzzy method with passive control method and PID control method. Due to the non-linearity characteristics of air-spring, fuzzy controller was verified to be the most effective both in simulation and experiment.
