  • The present parer outlines the system identification and vibration control performance of air traffic control tower of Yangyang international airport with tuned mass damper(TMD). From the free vibration test, natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape of tower are obtained and these values are compared with the values from numerical analysis. In the vibration control test to evaluate the vibration control performance, equivalent damping ratio increased by tuned mass damper are obtained in case the TMD is operated as passive mode. Damping ratio of tower evaluated from free vibration test is about $1.0{\%}$. It is very low value than damping ratio recommended in general code. Damping ratio of passive mode is about $5{\%}$. These equivalent damping ratio increased by TMD is enough to enhance the serviceability of tower structure under wind load.

  • This paper presents the vibration control of a flexible intelligent beam with added mass. The materials which is a glass fiber reinforced(GFR) thermoplastic composite is employed to achieve vibration characteristics according to added mass induced end of composite beam. In the experiments of forced vibration control, the -controller are employed to achieve vibration suppression in forced vibration situations. Also, in the controller design, 1st and 2nd´s natural frequencies are considered in the modeling, because robust control theory which has robustness to structured uncertainty is adopted to suppress the vibration. By designing a controller using mu-synthesis, robust performance against measurement noise, various modeling.

  • Recent past work has demonstrated that hydraulic semiactive vibration absorbers hold the promise of providing an ideal means of mitigating structural vibration. This paper examines a factor that must be treated when designing a hydraulic semiactive vibration absorber for application to a full scale structure; fluid compressibility. An expanded and consistent dynamic model of the flow process is first established. A simple feedback control is then tested on a single degree of freedom laboratory structure to verify the findings.

  • Recent advances in the field of control theory have enabled us to design active vibration control systems for various structures. In many studies, the controller used to suppress vibration has been synthesized for the given mathematical model of structure. In these cases, the designer has not been able to utilize the degree of freedom to adjust the structural parameters of the control object. To overcome this problem, so called 'Structure/Control Simultaneous Optimization Method' is used. In this context of view, this paper is concerned with the active vibration control of bridge towers, platforms and ocean vehicles etc. Simultaneous design method is used to achieve optimal system performance. Here, a general framework for the simultaneous design problem of output feedback case is introduced based on LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality). The simulation results show that the proposed design method achieves desirable control performance.

  • For free motions, vibration suppression of single flexible manipulators has been one of the hottest research topics. However, for cooperative motions of multiple flexible manipulators, a little effort has been devoted for the vibration suppression control. So, the aim of this paper is to develop a hybrid force/position control and vibration suppression control scheme for multiple cooperation flexible manipulators handling a rigid object. In order to clarify the discussion, the motions of dual-arm experimental flexible manipulator are considered. Using the developed model, we control a robotic system with hybrid position/force control scheme. Finally, Experiments are performed, and a comparison of experimental results is given to clarify the validity of our control scheme.

  • This paper investigates application of a control algorithm called model predictive sliding mode control (MPSMC) to active vibration suppression of a cantilevered aluminum beam. MPSMC is a relatively new control algorithm where model predictive control is employed to enhance sliding mode control by enforcing the system to reach the sliding surface in an optimal manner. In previous studies, it was shown that MPSMC can be applied to reduce hysteretic effects of piezoelectric actuators in dynamic displacement tracking applications. In the current study, a cantilevered beam with unknown mass distribution is selected as an experimental test bed in order to verify the robustness of MPSMC in active vibration control applications. Experimental results show that MPSMC can reduce vibration of an aluminum cantilevered beam at least by 29% regardless of modified mass distribution.

  • This paper is concerned with the vibration control of multi-layer structure for ultra-tall buildings and main tower of large bridge etc. We have modeled the multi-layer structure with the distributed mass system as the lumped mass system of two-degree-of-freedom structure and made experimental equipment. The $H_\infty$control theory was applied to the design of the control system. The designed control system was simulated by computer. As a result, the designed $H_\infty$controller showed the good vibration control performance to impulse response and frequency response.

  • Vibration isolation tables are mostly required in precise measurement and manufacturing system. Among the vibration isolation tables, an air spring is the most favorable equipment because of low resonant frequency and high damping ratio. However, it is difficult to design the air spring with the required stiffness and damping ratio. Futhermore, whenever conventional active control methods are applied to the air spring, it may be difficult to obtain effective control performance due to high nonlinearity of air spring. In this paper, the optimal design of the air spring is performed using genetic algorithm to bring out low resonant frequency and high damping ratio. Also, active control of the vibration isolation table with 3-DOF model is proposed using the adaptive control method. Through experiments, optimal design is shown to be effective. And performance of the proposed control method is verified to be better than those of the passive control method and the conventional active control methods.

  • Active vibration control of intelligent laminated composite plates is performed experimental1y Laminated composite place is modeled by the system identification method. For the system identification process, the laminated composite place is excited by two piezoelectric actuators with PRBS signals. At the same time, the displacement of the laminated composite plate is measured by a gap sensor. From these excited PRBS signals and the measured displacement sequence, system parameters of the laminated composite plate are estimated using a recursive prediction error method. Model of the laminated composite plate with two piezoeletric actuators is assumed to be the form of ARMAX. From the estimated ARHMAX model, a state space equation of the observable canonical form is obtained. With this state space equation, a controller and an observer for active vibration control is designed using the optimal control method. Controller and observer are implemented on a digital system. Experiments on the vibration control are Performed with changing the outer layer fiber orientation of intelligent composite plates.

  • This paper presents some examples of active control of flow-induced vibration using piezoelectric actuators. The flutter phenomenon, which is the dynamic instability of structure due to mutual interaction among inertia, stiffness, and aerodynamic forces, may cause catastrophic structural failure, and therefore the active flutter suppression is one of the main objectives of the aeroelastic control. Active flutter control has been numerically and experimentally studied for swept-back lifting surfaces using piezoelectric actuation. A finite element method, a panel aerodynamic method, and the minimum state space realization are involved in the development of the governing equation, which is efficiently used for the analysis of the system and design of control laws with modern control framework. The active control suppressed flow-induced vibrations and extended the flutter speed around by 10%. Another representative flow-induced vibration phenomenon is the oscillation of blunt bodies due to the vortex shedding. In general, it is quite difficult to set up the numerical model because of the strong non-linearity of the vortex shedding structure. Therefore, we applied adaptive positive position feedback controller, which requires no pre-determined model of the plant, and successfully suppressed the flow-induced vibration.
