The paper examines the ride performance enhancement that can be obtained by applying hydraulic semiactive vibration absorbers(SAVa) to alter the compliance characteristics of the seat/wheel suspension system. The work relies on a consistent model of the (nonlinear) hydrodynamics of the SAVA. A recently developed Lyapunov control scheme is used to provide regulation.. The performance is first examined assuming a quarter car with a seat/seat mounted mass. The paper then employs a quarter car/seat with a two mass ISO model of the seated human . The simulated results indicated that a reduction of 45% of the peak vertical acceleration is achievable with new system.
The performance of secondary suspension is one of the most important characteristics of railway vehicles in the regard of vibration and riding comfort. For this reason, the suspension shall be designed to absorb vibration energy effectively and to avoid the resonance which would be occurred by the vibration of the bogies in driving. The main factor of characteristics of suspension is spring coefficient of air spring, and this paper shows how to achieve the desired coefficient and the results of the tests of new air springs.
Railway plate girder bridges have characteristics that are not show dominant frequency in dynamic response frequencies like obtained vertical acceleration on the bridge during the train passing because the train loading relatively bigger than the bridge self-weight. This paper experimentally confirmed in FFT result has various frequencies due to inherent characteristic of railway train loading. To establish classification of dynamic frequency range in railway bridge acceleration during the train passing, vibration frequencies result from experimental test are analyzed concerning actuation vibration factors. Factors are train velocity, train type, mass ratio of vehicle/bridge, stiffness of bridge, bridge/track and vehicle/track. From the result, it is proposed that the frequencty classfication table with corresponding factors. Using the proposed table to develop rehabilitation technique of the plate girder bridge, to expect vibration reduction and comfort enhancement of the railway plate girder bridge.
A telescopic handless is a kind of construction machinery for loading, carrying and unloading various cargos. A residual vibration of the boom, however, is often caused in carrying cargos to high workplace, especially in small motion and unloading operations, even when an expert of this machine handless the boom. To solve this vibrational problem, we applied TDC and newly proposed Commandless IST to the telescopic handler, and confirmed their effectiveness through experiments. These promising results show that the proposed control schemes can improve productivity, safety and ride comfort of the telescopic handler.
This paper compares seat vibrations of a small passenger car and a SUV. The results also include the comparison of the human body accelerations and the ride values, such as the component ride values, and SEAT values of 12 axis accelerations obtained at the human body and seat track. The ride comfort evaluation is usually carried out by experiments of real cars which are expensive and sometimes may contain errors by passenger's postures. Simulations by computer, on the other hand, enable to solve these problems when the accuracy is proven. This paper, thus, also shows the correlation of human body vibration between experiments and computer simulations. For the computer simulation, korean dummy models are developed from the Hybrid III models by scaling the body data of Hybrid III to those of Korean men and women. From the comparison between the test data and simulation data, a nice correlation in trends was shown.
The vibration characteristic of tires is one of very important issues which heavily affect the noise and comfort on driving. Therefore, when the new tire is designed, the vibration characteristic of tire should be considered. In this paper, the vibration characteristic of non-pneumatic tire is investigated for geometric of NPT which is designed by cell angle of spoke. The analysis is based on the finite element method and used ABAQUS program, which is able to non-linear analysis. The material of NPT is used for the Ogden energy model, which is model of hyperelastic material. This paper investigate natural frequency and modal of NPT and compare result of NPT with it of pneumatic tire.
Dynamic vibration absorbers (DVAs) in the form of tuned sloshing dampers (TSDs) and tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are commonly used to reduce the wind-induced motion of high-rise buildings. Full-scale performance of structure-DVA systems must be evaluated during the DVA commissioning process using structural monitoring data. While the random decrement technique (RDT) is sometimes employed to evaluate the DVA performance, it is shown to have no theoretical justification for application to structure-DVA systems, and to produce erroneous results. Subsequently, several practical methods with a sound theoretical basis are presented and illustrated using simulated and real-world data. By monitoring the responses of the structure and DVA simultaneously, it is possible to directly measure the effective damping of the system or perform system identification from which the DVA performance can be evaluated.
Shocks are excited by impulsive forces and cause discomfort in vehicles. Current standards define means of evaluating shocks and predicting their discomfort, but the methods are based on research with a restricted range of shocks. This experimental study was designed to investigate the discomfort of seated subjects exposed to a wide range of vertical shocks. Shocks were produced from the responses of one degree-of-freedom models, with 16 natural frequencies (from 0.5 to 16 Hz) and four damping ratios (0.05 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4), to a hanning-windowed half-sine force inputs. Each type of shock was presented at five vibration dose values in the range $0.35\;ms^{-1.75}$ to $2.89\;ms^{-1.75}$. Fifteen subjects used magnitude estimation method to judge the discomfort of all shocks. The exponent in Stevens' power law, indicating the rate of growth in discomfort with shock magnitude, decreased with increasing fundamental frequency of the shocks. At all magnitudes, the equivalent comfort contours showed greatest sensitivity to shocks having fundamental frequencies in the range 4 to 12.5 Hz. At low magnitudes the variations in discomfort with the shock fundamental frequency were similar to the frequency weighting $W_b$ in BS 6841, but low frequency high magnitudes shocks produced greater discomfort than predicted by this weighting. At some frequencies, for the same unweighted vibration dose value, there were small but significant differences in discomfort caused by shocks having different damping ratios. The rate of increase in discomfort with increasing shock magnitude depends on the fundamental frequency of the shock. In consequence, the frequency-dependence of discomfort produced by vertical shocks depends on shock magnitude. For shocks of low and moderate discomfort, the current methods seem reasonable, but the response to higher magnitude shocks needs further investigation.
The bimodal tram was designed to drive on the dedicated track as well as on the public road. The position and speed are automatically controlled on the dedicated track by the onboard computer, whereas they are manually controlled by driver like motor vehicles on the public road. The ride comfort the passengers feel and the effect of the vibration generated during driving on the passenger's health, comfortableness and motion sickness were evaluated with driving the bimodal tram prototype in automatic and manual mode, respectively. The test was done in automatic mode on the test track with various load conditions while it was done in manual mode on the public road with empty load.
In order to compare subjective and objective assessments, a passenger car was driven at several speeds over several road profiles. To measure the acceleration signals experienced by the seated subject who provided an subjective assessment, four triaxial translational accelerometers and one triaxial gyro sensor were mounted on the steering wheel and on the passenger seat and floor, respectively. Correlations were determined between the measured accelerations and the subjective assessments of 3 expert subjects and 9 general subjects using psychophysical power law.
