  • Vibration of railway vehicle has harmful effect to dynamic performances of railway represented to stability, safety and ride comfort. Hence reduction of vibration has been discussed as an important problem and has been widely investigated. A new technology of vibration control, energy regenerative control, is introduced. Energy regenerative damper using this new vibration control converts vibration energy into other kind of energy that we can utilize. In this paper, this energy regenerative damper is applied to the dynamic absorber and vehicle suspension. And it is evaluated whether the energy regenerative railway vehicle suspension is possible.

  • Tire vibration modes are known to play a key role in vehicle ride and comfort characteristics. Inputs to the tire such as impacts, rough road surface, tire nonuniformities, and tread patterns can potentially excite tire vibration. In this study, experimental modal analysis on the tire with ground contact are performed by impacting the tire in the radial direction at the center of contact patch. To investigate which modes of tire influence the vibration of wheel and axle when the tire is in contact with ground, the vibration characteristics such as frequency response functions, natural frequencies and their mode shapes from tire to wheel/axle are examined.

  • As customer's demand for vehicle comfort is getting increased, vibration problem is very important issue in vehicle development. Engine is the main factor causing vehicle vibration, so that we should isolate detrimental transmitted excitation from engine. In order to solve this problem engine mounting system was properly optimized. Simulation was performed not only rigid body mode analysis but also flexible body mode analysis. We obtained the optimal locations and stiffness of engine mounts from simulation results, and had reasonable results from considering flexible body mode than only rigid body mode analysis.

  • Thirteen taxi drivers as the subject in the experiment were exposed to vertical vibration which is controlled on a rigid seat reflecting vibration on passenger vehicle. They were employed not only to get human response of objective measurement but also to make subjective evaluation of the vibration. The subjective evaluation was estimated using the absolute discomfort threshold of the controlled vibration, which was achieved with the three-down one-up method that is widely used in the field of psychophysics. As the result, apparent mass and apparent eccentric mass as objective human response tend to gradually decrease when frequency of the vibration increases. The absolute discomfort threshold was increased in case of increasing the frequency. Concludingly, the subjective discomfort evaluation is highly correlated with the objective human responses at the range of idle vibration on passenger vehicle.

  • This paper addresses what amount of whole-body vibration is exposed to pilots of UH60 helicopters during flight. To measure the whole-body exposed from the feet and seat, the 12-axis vibration measurement system was used. It enables simultaneous measurement of vibration exposure from the body contact area of the feet, hip and back. The measured 12-axis vibration signals are exploited to the comfort level of UH60 helicopters during flight. It is shown that the evaluated ride value is close to $0.74{\sim}0.79m/s^2$ and that it is equivalent to the semantic scale of 'fairly uncomfortable'. To assess the health effects of whole-body vibration exposed to pilots of UH60 helicopters during their flight, the rms-based and VDV(vibration dose value)-based evaluation results of measured four-axis vibration signals are shown in this work. The fatigue-decreased proficiency limit, whose level is half of the exposure limit, is expected to come after the two-hour flight. The exposure limit is shown to reach after the 10-hour flight.

  • Shock vibrations are usually experienced in vehicles excited by impulsive input, such as bumps. The frequency weighting functions of the current standards in ISO 2631 and BS 6841 are to help objectively predict the amount of discomfort of stationary vibration. This experimental study was designed to develop frequency weighting shape for shock vibration having various fundamental frequencies from 0.5 to 16Hz. The specks were produced from the response of single. degree-of-freedom model to a half-sine force input. Fifteen subjects used the magnitude estimation method to judge the discomfort of vertical shock vibration generated on the rigid seat mounted on the simulator. The magnitudes of the shocks, expressed in terms of both peak-to-peak value and un-weighted vibration dose values (VDVs) , were correlated with magnitude estimates of the discomfort. The frequency weighting shapes from the correlation were developed and investigated having nonlinearity due to the magnitude of the shock.

  • To improve the riding comfort of high speed trains, it needs active suspension system for railway more and more. In Japan, the high speed train, Shinkansen has adopted semi active suspension system and now it is running in the main trunk. In Korea, Koeran Train Express (KTX) is opened to commercial traffic and Korea High speed Railway (HSR350) is being developed. So the vibration control of the high speed train becomes important. In this paper, we introduce technical skill of Japanese semi active suspension Shinkansen to be helpful to the related researcher.

  • Tire flat spot is a deformation which occurs around the contact patch during long-period parking and does hardly recovered even after driving. The deformation makes a tire self-excited and ride comfort gets worse. In this study, it is shown that the flat spot can be evaluated by measuring change in radial run out or force. Its effects on vibration at vehicle floor and steering wheel are also revealed. Finally it is shown that the flat spot is likely to occur if the inflation pressure is low and the tire is suppressed by a heavy load at a high temperature.

  • Shock absorber has a great influence on the performance of the vehicle(ride comfort, manipulation, noise, vibration, turning, stability). Therefore, in this study we consider theoretically about general damper, variable damping oil damper, the control of vehicle Characteristics for the suspension, and undesirable phenomenon. And we measured the vibration/noise characteristics of shock absorber for the real car experimentation, strain change, and noise characteristics of shock absorber using experimental equipment. The study of domestic company and research institute on the vehicle shock absorber is active, but that of basis is not. So we think that they should be accomplished actively. Therefore, this paper will develop theoretical system on the vibration/noise characteristics of shock absorber by theoretical consideration and experimental result analysis of dynamic characteristics of shock absorber that were accomplished in this study. Then we will use it as the optimistic design data for shock absorber development.
