  • LAVA-ERVC experiments have been performed to investigate the effect of insulation design features on the coolability in case of the external reactor vessel cooling (ERVC). All the 4 tests have been performed using Alumina iron thermite melt as a corium simulant. Due to the limited steam venting through the insulation, steam binding occurred inside the annulus in the KSNP case simulation. On the contrary, in the tests which were performed for simulating the APR1400 insulation design, sufficient water ingression and steam venting through the insulation lead to effective cool down of the vessel characterized by nucleate boiling. It could be found from the experimental results that modification of the insulation design allowing sufficient ventilation could increase the positive effects of the external reactor vessel cooling.

  • DNV crane criteria are specially designated for the vessel equipped with lifting crane to cover the risk during the crane operation. Based on the DNV crane criteria, the crane performance shall be decided. The weight control has great importance in the management of vessel's design for crane vessel. To evaluate limitation of lightship weight and the effect of design changes sufficiently, the lightship allowable VCG curve was used. The optimization process was carried out for generation of the lightship allowable VCG curve due to the difficulty coming from the characteristic of DNV crane criteria. This paper includes the introduction to the DNV Crane criteria and optimization process for evaluation in aspect of lightship weight and VCG.

  • Existing elastic analysis methods cannot be adhered to in order to assess the structural integrity of a reactor vessel and internals for a beyond design basis earthquake. Elasto-plastic analysis methods are required, and the factors that affect the elasto-plastic behavior of reactor materials should be taken into account. In this study, a material behavior model was developed that considers the irradiation embrittlement effect, which affects the elasto-plastic behavior of the reactor material. This was used to perform the elasto-plastic time history analyses of the reactor vessel and its internals for beyond design basis earthquake. For this investigation, appropriate beyond design basis earthquakes and reliable finite element models were used. Based on the analysis results, consideration was given to the load reduction effect and the margin change. These were transferred to the internals due to the plastic deformation of the reactor vessel.

  • R/V EARDO, commissioned in 1992, has successfully carried out ocean research campaigns in Korean jurisdictional and adjacent waters, including continental margins and coastal zones within the Korean Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), for 29 years. However, it will soon be reaching the end of its useful service life. A replacement for R/V EARDO is urgently needed to ensure the safety of vessel itself and its crews, and efficient ship operation and maintenance, as well as to meet modern scientific mission requirements (SMRs). Basic specifications for a replacement ship have been devised and reviewed over the past nine months. A test of the proposed hull form was also performed. The total tonnage of the proposed vessel is approximately 740 tons, and the overall length and width are 62.0 and 11.6 m, respectively. The new ship will thus be 73% larger than the current R/V EARDO; in particular, the research workspace will be 4.4 times larger. The major design priorities are the propulsion system, efficiency of radiated noise and vibration control, and the dynamic positioning system. An environmentally friendly emission system, meeting International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III regulations, will be installed in the third exhaust pipe. Various wet and dry lab spaces as well as 32 different scientific instruments have also been considered in the ship design.

  • In this paper the scenario based optimization of the bulbous bow of the KRISO Container Ship (KCS) is presented. The optimization of the parametrically modeled vessel is based on a statistically developed operational profile generated from noon-to-noon reports of a comparable 3600 TEU container vessel and specific development functions representing the growth of global economy during the vessels service time. In order to consider uncertainties, statistical fluctuations are added. An analysis of these data lead to a number of most probable upcoming operating conditions (OC) the vessel will stay in the future. According to their respective likeliness an objective function for the evaluation of the optimal design variant of the vessel is derived and implemented within the parametrical optimization workbench FRIENDSHIP Framework. In the following this evaluation is done with respect to vessel's calculated effective power based on the usage of potential flow code. The evaluation shows, that the usage of scenarios within the optimization process has a strong influence on the hull form.

  • In this paper, a controller based on repetitive learning control is designed to control an unmanned surface vessel with nonlinear characteristics and unknown parameters. First, we define the equations of motion and error system of the unmanned vessel, and then design an repetitive learning controller composed of system error and estimated unknown parameters based on repetitive learning control and adaptive control. The stability of the unmanned vessel model controlled by the designed controller is verified through the analysis of the Lyapunov stability. Simulation shows that the error converges asymptotically to zero with semi-global result, confirming that the unmanned vessel is moving toward a given ideal path, and verifies that the controller is also feasible.

  • The hot forming process of an exhaust CAM for vessel engine was designed by finite element(FE) simulation and experimental analysis. An aim of process design was to achieve the near-net shaped CAM forgings by hot forging process. Based on the compression test results of the low alloy steel, power dissipation map was generated using the the dynamic materials model(DMM). From the map, the initial heating temperature was determined as 1200oC. FE analysis was simulated to predict the formation of forging defects and deformed shape with different forging designs. Optimum process design suggested in this work was made by comparing with the CAM for vessel engine manufactured by actual forging process.

An aim of process design was to achieve the near-net shaped CAM forgings by hot forging process. Based on the compression test results of the low alloy steel, deformation processing map was generated using the superposition approach between the dynamic materials model (DMM) and flow stability and/or instability criteria. From the processing map, the initial heating temperature was determined as $1200^{\circ}C$. FE analysis was simulated to predict the formation of rolling defects and deformed shape with different forging designs. • In this paper, the authors propose a new approach to control problem of the marine vessels which are moored or controlled by actuators. The vessel control problem in the specified area is called a DPS (Dynamic Positioning System). The main objective of this paper is to obtain more useful control design method for DPS. In this problem, a complicate fact is control allocation which is a numerical method for distributing the control signal to the controlled system. For this, many results have been given and verified by other researchers using two individual processes. It means that the controller design and control allocation design process are carried out individually. In this paper, the authors give more sophisticated design solution on this issue. In which the controller design and control allocation problem are unified by a robust controller design problem. In other word, the stability of the closed-loop system, control performance and allocation problem are unified by an LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) constraint based on $H_2/H_{\infty}$ mixed design framework. The usefulness of proposed approach is verified by simulation with a supply vessel model and found works well.
