  • The turbine flowmeter is selected for high precision and reproducibility at the time of flow rate measurement but causes various uncertainty factors of measurement in the difference between the standard environmental condition at calibration and the environmental condition at the site. Also, a reliable interpolation method is required for use in sections other than calibrated measurement values. Therefore, in this paper, in order to improve the reliability of the flow rate measurement, we designed and manufactured a device that accurately measures the output signal of the turbine flowmeter, interpolates the value of the calibrated result value, and corrects the temperature change in real time We confirmed the reliability of the measurement at the site to carry out the performance verification.

  • Design engineering process for field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based reactor trip functions are developed in this work. The process discussed in this work is based on the systems engineering approach. The overall design process is effectively implemented by combining with design and implementation processes. It transforms its overall development process from traditional V-model to Y-model. This approach gives the benefit of concurrent engineering of design work with software implementation. As a result, it reduces development time and effort. The design engineering process consisted of five activities, which are performed and discussed: needs/systems analysis; requirement analysis; functional analysis; design synthesis; and design verification and validation. Those activities are used to develop FPGA-based reactor bistable trip functions that trigger reactor trip when the process input value exceeds the setpoint. To implement design synthesis effectively, a model-based design technique is implied. The finite-state machine with data path structural modeling technique together with very high speed integrated circuit hardware description language and the Aldec Active-HDL tool are used to design, model, and verify the reactor bistable trip functions for nuclear power plants.

  • The majority of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems in today's nuclear power plants (NPPs) are based on analog technology. Thus, most existing I&C systems now face obsolescence problems. Existing NPPs have difficulty in repairing and replacing devices and boards during maintenance because manufacturers no longer produce the analog devices and boards used in the implemented I&C systems. Therefore, existing NPPs are replacing the obsolete analog I&C systems with advanced digital systems. New NPPs are also adopting digital I&C systems because the economic efficiencies and usability of the systems are higher than the analog I&C systems. Digital I&C systems are based on two technologies: a microprocessor based system in which software programs manage the required functions and a programmable logic device (PLD) based system in which programmable logic devices, such as field programmable gate arrays, manage the required functions. PLD based systems provide higher levels of performance compared with microprocessor based systems because PLD systems can process the data in parallel while microprocessor based systems process the data sequentially. In this research, a bistable trip logic in a reactor protection system (RPS) was developed using very high speed integrated circuits hardware description language (VHDL), which is a hardware description language used in electronic design to describe the behavior of the digital system. Functional verifications were also performed in order to verify that the bistable trip logic was designed correctly and satisfied the required specifications. For the functional verification, a random testing technique was adopted to generate test inputs for the bistable trip logic.

The Determinants of Listed Commercial Banks' Profitability in Vietnam

  • The study investigates the factors affecting the profitability of listed commercial banks in Vietnam. Survey data for this research were collected from 10 Vietnamese listed commercial banks for the period from 2008 to 2018. In the study, we have built a model of econometric regression with the dependent variable being listed commercial banks' profitability results measured through ROA. The research methods used include descriptive statistics, IV regression and OLS regression analysis, and the authors carried out the model verification with Stata 14 software. The results showed that operating efficiency, loans size, retail loans ratio, state ownership, inflation rate, and GDP growth are factors that have a positive impact on profitability On the other hand, variables such as capital size, credit risk, liquidity risk, bank size, and revenue diversification are statistically insignificant; hence, these variables are not statistically adequate to indicate the influence of those independent variables to banks' profitability. The findings of this study suggest that the quality of assets should be considered in the context that bad debt risks come from lending heavily to the real estate sector. Meeting Basel II's capital compliance requirements is relatively difficult for small listed commercial banks compared to bigger listed commercial banks in Vietnam.

A Study on the Practical Use of an Active Control System to Reduce Ship Superstructure Vibration (선박 상부구조 진동 저감을 위한 능동형 제어장치의 실용화 연구)

  • Active control is regarded as one of the most efficient and economic countermeasures to reduce excessive vibration of ship superstructure. However, it is difficult to find its practical application in real ships in spite that many studies on such systems have been done. In this study, for the practical use of an active control system to reduce ship superstructure vibration, we have developed an active vibration compensator consisting of a mechanical actuator having compact size and expected lifetime over 20 years, its control panel including exclusive signal processing and computing board, sensors to detect phase and vibration, and its operation software providing various user-interface functions. From the performance verification test of the system at a 5,500 TEU container carrier, we have confirmed the system could reduce ship superstructure vibration of a harmonic component of main engine rotating frequency up to 0.1 mm/s.

  • Multi-axle driving vehicles that are used in special environments require high driving performance, steering performance, and stability. Among these vehicles, 6WS/6WD vehicles with middle wheels have structural safety by distributing the load and reducing the pitch angle during rapid acceleration and braking. 6WS/6WD vehicles are favored for military use in off road operations because of their high maneuverability and mobility on extreme terrains and obstacles. 6WD vehicles that using in-wheel motor can generate the independent wheel torque without other mechanical parts. Conventional vehicles, however, cannot generate an opposite driving force at each side wheel. Using an independent steering and driving system, six-wheel vehicles can show better performance than conventional vehicles. Using of independent steering and driving system, the 6 wheel vehicle can improve a performance better than conventional vehicle. This vehicle enhances the maneuverability under low speed and the stability at high speed. This paper describes an independent 6WS/6WD vehicle, consists of three parts; Vehicle Model, Control Algorithm for 6WS/6WD and Simulation. First, vehicle model is application of TruckSim software for 6WS and 6WD. Second, control algorithm describes the optimum tire force distribution method in view of energy saving. Last is simulation and verification.

Basic Design of Deep Subsea Manifold Frame Structure for Oil Production (심해저 원유 생산용 매니폴드 프레임 구조 기본 설계)

  • Amanifold is one of the essential subsea oil and gas production components to simplify the subsea production layout. It collects the production fluid from a couple of wellheads, transfers it to onshore or offshore storage platforms, and even accommodates water and gas injection flowlines. This paper presents the basic design procedure for a manifold frame structure with novel structural verification using in-house unity check codes. Loads and load cases for the design of an SIL 3 class-manifold are established from a survey of relevant industrial codes. The basic design of the manifold frame is developed based on simple load considerations such as the self weights of the manifold frame and pipeline system. In-house software with Eurocode 3 embedded, called INHA-SOLVER, makes it possible to carry out code checks on the yield and buckling unities. This paper finally proves that the new design of the manifold frame structure is effective to resist a permanent and environment load, and the in-house code is also adaptively combined with the commercial finite element code Nastran.

  • 소프트웨어의 개발 단계에서는 검증을 위한 V&V(Verification & Validation) 프로세스를 통해 체계적인 개발 활동이 가능하도록 지원하고 있다. 이에 반해 소프트웨어 요구사항 분석 이전에 수행되는 연구 단계는 그렇지 못하며, 또한 소프트웨어 연구 사업의 평가 시 구체적인 기준의 부재, 평가 시간과 수집된 자료의 부족 등의 문제가 제기 되었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 연구자의 연구 활동과 연구 평가자의 연구 평가 활동을 지원하기 위해 소프트웨어 관련 국제 표준에서 추출한 요구사항을 바탕으로 하여 목표 구조, 평가 메트릭을 도출하고, 평가 시나리오와 그것을 해설해주는 가이드라인을 생성하는 방법을 제안한다. 우리의 연구는 연구 평가를 위한 메트릭 가이드라인인 라이덴 선언에 일부 부합하는 것을 확인하였다. 연구 결과는 연구 평가의 효율화와 자동화를 위한 향후 연구의 기초가 될 것이다.

Improving Collision Energy Absorption In High Speed Train By Using Thin Walled Tubes

  • The purpose of this paper is investigating the effect and influence rates of utilizing thin walled energy absorption tubes for improving crashworthiness parameter by increasing energy absorption of the body in high speed railcars. In order to find this, a proper profile of available tubes is chosen and added to the structure of selected high speed train in Iranian railway network (Pardis Trainset) and then examined in the scenario of impact with other moving rolling stock. Because of the specific features of LS-DYNA 3D software at collision analysis, the dynamic simulation has been performed in LS-DYNA 3D. The results of the analysis clearly indicate the improvement of train crashworthiness as the energy absorption of structure increases more than 30 percent in comparison with the original body. This strategy delays and reduces the shock to the structure. The verification of the simulation is by using ECE R66 standard.

Method of Multi Thread Management based on Shader Instruction for Mobile GPGPU (GPGPU를 위한 쉐이더 명령어기반 멀티 스레드 관리 기법)

  • This thesis is intended to design multi thread mobile GPGPU optimized in mobile environment, and to verify an effective thread management method of the multi thread mobile processor. In thread management, there is no management hardware and implement with software instructions. For the verification of the multi thread management method, Lane detection algorithm was implemented to compare nVidia's CUDA Architecture and the designed GPGPU in terms of thread management efficiency. The number of thread is normalized to 48 threads. An implemented Land Detection Algorithm is composed of Gaussian filter algorithm and Sobel Edge Detection algorithm. As a result, the designed GPGPU's thread efficiency is up to 2 times higher than CUDA's thread efficiency.
