The major focus is given to the differences between maternal verbal control patterns and children's recognition against those. The purspoe of this study were; 1) to investigate the maternal verbal control patterns recognized by children according to their family and personal surroundings; 2) to investigate the verbal control patterns in mother's response according to the differences of family and personal surroundings; 3) to find the differences between children's recognition and maternal verbal control patterns; 4) How the maternal verbal control patterns recognized by children are? The materials of this study were 81(37; boys, 44; girl)) from kindergarten in Seou. The sample of age used in this study was 5 to 7 years old. The test about maternal verbal environment used the question sheet for reaction between mother and children by Gumperz. The kids got interviews with same questions as mothers with question sheet. The statistical tools used is the analysis of the data were frequency, crosstab, and t-test. The result of the study were summarized as follows; 1) The maternal verbal control patterns recognized by children had differences according to whether living with grand-parent or not. Living with grand-parent are more person-oriented than without grand-parent group. 2) The maternal verbal control patterns of mother response show the differences within mother's academic background, present situation of child, and parent's expection to child. The imperative verbal control pattern was more frequently used of low academic background who just fraduate the middle or high school. The personal verbal control pattern was more frequently used of high educational background's like university graduate or more educated group. 3) The differences between maternal verbal control patterns with children's recognition and with mother response is that mother responseis more person-oriented than children's. 4) The imperative verbal control pattern used command, verbal purnishment, and physical purnishment. the status-oriented verbal control pattern used univesal positional appeals and limited positional appeals. The person-oriented verbal control pattern used child-oriented cognitive affective appeals.
For this study of the writing performance of verbally gifted elementary and middle school students and its relations to home literary environment, reading attitude, perceived verbal ability, and preference for verbal expression, a sample of 101 verbally gifted children was recruited from classes in a gifted education institute in P metropolitan area. Results of path analyses show that verbally gifted children's home literary environment affects reading attitude and perceived verbal ability; reading attitude and perceived verbal ability affects preference for verbal expression; and preference for verbal expression directly affects writing performance. Results imply that the indirect relations of home literary environment to verbally gifted children's writing performance are an important foundation for developing preference for verbal expression and writing skills.
The purpose of this research is to delineate the effect of maternal variables of the verbal abuse. Such variables as the mother's age, her education level, and maternal parenting stress have been chosen for the analysis. The sample subject were 659 pairs of fifth/sixth grade of elementary school and firs/second grade of middle school, and their mothers. The major findings of the research are as follows: first, looking at the correlation between the mother's age/education level and the verbal abuse, the verbal abuse factor shows difference correlating to the mother's age/education level. Second, looking at the correlation between the material parenting stress level and the verbal abuse, the verbal abuse factor shows difference correlating to the maternal parenting stress level. Third, the result of multiple regression analysis on the effects of the maternal variables to the verbal abuse indicates that material parenting stress is the significant contributing factor. All in all, the maternal variables account for 9% of the verbal abuse score.
This study examined the characteristics of the relationship of environmental variables that is HOME socio-demographic variables and children's verbal ability at age five. Especially this study investigated causal relationships among the variables which are supposed to affect children's verbal ability. The subjects of this study were 60 children at age five and their mothers. Instruments included inventory of home stimulation(HOME) inventory of socio-demographic variables inventory of the children's verbal ability and intelligence test. The results obtained from study were as follows: 1. For the most part environmental variables had a significant positive correlation with children's verbal ability 2. The variables that significantly predicted boy's verbal ability were aspects of physical environment breadth of experienc. And the variables that significantly predicted girls' verbal ability were developmental stimulation economic status of the home. 3. The results of the analysis of the causal model showed that the kind of variables that affected boy's verbal ability directly were indirect stimulation direct stimulation. And the kind of variables that affected girls' verbal ability directly were direct stimulation econmic status of the home inditect stimulation. 4. Another causal model of the environmental variables affecting children's verbal ability were formulated by exogenous variables(socio-demographic variables) and by endogenous variables (HOME, children's intelligence). The results of the analysis of the causal model showed that only HOME variables significantly affected boy's and girls' verbal ability directly.
This study investigated the relationships between experiencing verbal violence and the emotional responses and coping behaviors of dental hygienists who worked in Jeonju between February 24 and March 18, 2017 to prepare strategies for managing verbal violence and establish a healthy working environment for dental hygienists. The following findings were obtained in this study. The dental hygienists primarily experienced verbal violence from patients and guardians (1.67 points). The most common verbal violence type was, "Someone treated me impolitely." The most common emotional response to verbal violence was "anger" (3.52 points). The coping style of most dental hygienists was problem-focused coping (3.28 points), followed by emotion-focused coping (2.75 points). Most hygienists with the problem-focused coping style stated that they resolve the problem through dialogue (3.51 points), while most hygienists with the emotion-focused coping style responded that they just ignore the situation (3.78 points). The relationship between experiencing verbal violence and the emotional responses and coping behaviors of dental hygienists showed a statistically significant positive correlation (p<0.05) with emotional responses and problem- and emotion-focused coping associated with experiencing verbal violence from dentists, patients, and guardians. These findings confirm the need to reduce verbal violence, control emotional responses after exposure to verbal violence, and use more problem-focused coping measures. Dental hygienists must develop interpersonal skills and communication techniques and promote professionalism in their workplace to protect themselves from verbal violence at work.
