Indoor thermal conditions greatly affect the health and comfort of humans who occupy the space in it. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of water and vegetation elements as a microclimate modifier in buildings to obtain thermal comfort through the study of thermal environment models. This research covers two objects, namely public buildings and housing in Makassar City, South Sulawesi Prov-ince - Indonesia. Quantitative methods through field surveys and measurements based on thermal and personal variables. Data analysis based on ASHRAE 55 2020 standard. The data was processed with a parametric statistical approach and then simulated with the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation method to find a thermal prediction model. The model was made by increasing the ventilation area by 2.0 m2, adding 10% vegetation with shade plant characteristics, moving water features in the form of fountains and increasing the pool area by 15% to obtain PMV + 0.23, PPD + 8%, TSV-1 - +0, Ta_25.7℃, and relative humidity 63.5 - 66%. The evaluation shows that the operating temperature can analyze the visitor's comfort temperature range of >80% and comply with the ASHRAE 55-2020 standard. It is concluded that water elements and indoor vegetation can be microclimate modifiers in buildings to create desired comfort conditions and adaptive con-trols in buildings such as the arrangement of water elements and vegetation and ventilation systems to provide passive cooling effects in buildings.
Background : Mechanical ventilation constitutes the last therapeutic method for acute respiratory failure when oxygen therapy and medical treatment fail to improve the respiratory status of the patient. This invasive ventilation, classically administered by endotracheal intubation or by tracheostomy, is associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Consequently, any less invasive method able to avoid the use of endotracheal ventilation would appear to be useful in high risk patient. Over recent years, the efficacy of nasal mask ventilation has been demonstrated in the treatment of chronic restrictive respiratory failure, particularly in patients with neuromuscular diseases. More recently, this method has been successfully used in the treatment of acute respiratory failure due to parenchymal disease. Method : We assessed the efficacy of Bilevel positive airway pressure(BiPAP) in the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). This study prospectively evaluated the clinical effectiveness of a treatment schedule with positive pressure ventilation via nasal mask(Respironics BiPAP device) in 22 patients with acute exacerbations of COPD. Eleven patients with acute exacerbations of COPD were treated with nasal pressure support ventilation delivered via a nasal ventilatory support system plus standard treatment for 3 consecutive days. An additional 11 control patients were treated only with standard treatment. The standard treatment consisted of medical and oxygen therapy. The nasal BiPAP was delivered by a pressure support ventilator in spontaneous timed mode and at an inspiratory positive airway pressure $6-8cmH_2O$ and an expiratory positive airway pressure $3-4cmH_2O$. Patients were evaluated with physical examination(respiratory rate), modified Borg scale and arterial blood gas before and after the acute therapeutic intervention. Results : Pretreatment and after 3 days of treatment, mean $PaO_2$ was 56.3mmHg and 79.1mmHg (p<0.05) in BiPAP group and 56.9mmHg and 70.2mmHg (p<0.05) in conventional treatment (CT) group and $PaCO_2$ was 63.9mmHg and 56.9mmHg (p<0.05) in BiPAP group and 53mmHg and 52.8mmHg in CT group respectively. pH was 7.36 and 7.41 (p<0.05) in BiPAP group and 7.37 and 7.38 in cr group respectively. Pretreatment and after treatment, mean respiratory rate was 28 and 23 beats/min in BiPAP group and 25 and 20 beats/min in CT group respectively. Borg scale was 7.6 and 4.7 in BiPAP group and 6.4 and 3.8 in CT group respectively. There were significant differences between the two groups in changes of mean $PaO_2$, $PaCO_2$ and pH respectively. Conclusion: We conclude that short-term nasal pressure-support ventilation delivered via nasal BiPAP in the treatment of acute exacerbation of COPD, is an efficient mode of assisted ventilation for improving blood gas values and dyspnea sensation and may reduce the need for endotracheal intubation with mechanical ventilation.

In order to evaluate and improve the performance of local exhaust ventilation systems for two TCE degreasing (A, B) and two electroplating (C, E) and one acid dipping & plating (D) operations located in Kimhae, the performance test was conducted with trace gases and a thermal anemometer (Kanomax 24-6111, Japan). For the inadequately designed systems, the improvement and redesigns in compliance with recommendation by ACGIH was suggested. The results of performance test for each system are as follows; 1. System of Workplace A was generally well-designed. Actual exhaust air flow rate was in excess of 68% above the recommended standard exhaust air flow rate. 2. System of Workplace B was very well-designed and completely enclosed. 3. All systems of Workplace C including hoods were poorly-designed and actual exhaust air flow rates were insufficient for open tanks. All systems should be upgraded according to ACGIH recommendations. 4. Supply and exhaust air flow rate of push-pull exhaust systems in Workplace D should be greatly increased. The width of flange of dipping tank hood should be increased with the value suggested. 5. System of Workplace E was well-designed. Actual exhaust air flow rate was in excess of 54% above the required.
Ventilation of the marine engine room is very important for the health of the workers as well as the normal operation of machines. To find proper ventilation conditions of this engine room, numerical simulation with standard k-${\epsilon}$ model was carried out. In the present study, the marine engine room is separated to two floors with porus horizontal partition and considered as a closed space with a heat source and forced ventilation ducts. The porosity of horizontal partition is found to be important. For the engine room with 2 supply ports & 2 exhaust ports, the increasing of the porosity of horizontal partition is effective to reduce the recirculation flow zone in the second floor. When the engine room is ventilated with three supply air ports & one exhaust port, the increasing of the porosity of horizontal partition is effective to reduce the recirculating flow zone in the exhaust air area, but there is a possibility of local extreme heating at the lower side of engine near bottom.
The underground utility tunnels are important facility as a mainstay of country because of communication developments. The communication and electrical duct banks as well as various utility lines for urban life are installed in the underground utility tunnel systems. If a fire breaks out in this life-line tunnel, the function of the city will be discontinued and the huge damages are occurred. In order to improve the safety of life-line tunnel systems and the fire detection, the behaviors of the fire-induced smoke flow and temperature distribution are investigated. In this study we assumed that the fire is occurred at the contact or connection points of cable. Numerical calculations are carried out using different velocity of ventilation in utility tunnel. The fire source is modeled as a volumetric heat source. Three-dimensional flow and thermal characteristics in the underground tunnel are solved by means of FVM (Finite Volume Method) using SIMPLE algorithm and standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model for Reynolds stress terms. The numerical results of the fire-induced flow characteristics in an underground utility tunnel with different velocity of ventilation are graphically prepared and discussed.
An interesting of desktop air-conditioning system is the Personal Environmental Module(PEM) System. The PEM system allows the occupant to choose the desired temperature, air volume and direction of the discharged air. In this study, the measurements on the age of air and the air change effectiveness, using the tracer gas method, are carried out to analyze the ventilation performance for provision of fresh air near the breathing zone by the PEM. The relations between the PEM for optimal control and other factors related to indoor air quality, and the ventilation for the PEM are examined. Also, three different supply diffuser types(desktop, floor and ceiling) are compared in view of their ability to distribute supply air to the workstation breathing zone. The desktop diffuser type could deliver air directly to the occupants breathing zone with a high degree of effectiveness. The minimum local age of air was measured in the breathing zone, which is directly supplied with air from the PEM diffusers, and the measured local air change effectiveness of the desktop diffuser in the breathing zone was about 1.13 to 1.23 times greater than that of the ceiling and floor diffusers. When the minimum outside air change rate as specified using ASHRAE Standard 62R is supplied with a desktop diffuser type, the volume of outside air can be reduced 13 to 23%, resulting in a commensurate in ventilation energy use.

Aerodynamics in a naturally ventilated multi-span greenhouse with plants was analyzed numerically by the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. To investigate the potential application of CFD techniques to greenhouse design and analysis, the numerical results of the CFD model were compared with the results of a steady-state mass and energy balance numerical model. Assuming the results of the mass and energy balance model as the standard, reasonably good agreement was obtained between the natural ventilation rates computed by the CFD numerical model and the mass and energy balance model. The steady-state CFD model during a sunny day showed negative errors as high as 15% in the morning and comparable positive errors in the afternoon. Such errors assumed to be due to heat storage in the floor, benches, and greenhouse structure. For a west wind of 2.5 m s$^{-1}$ , the internal nonporous shading screens that opened to the east were predicted to have a 15.6% better air exchange rate than opened to the west. It was generally predicted that the presence of nonporous internal shading screens significantly reduced natural ventilation if the horizontal opening of the screen for each span was smaller that the effective roof vent opening.

As the standard of living is higher, the passengers using public transportations desire better qualities of environment as well as more comfortable indoor environment. In case of train, the passengers' comfort in passenger cabin is one of the most important elements to be competitive with other transport systems. The indoor air quality of the cabin should be managed properly, because many passengers travel for a long time in the small space of $144\;m^3$. For proper management of the air quality, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is required for the ventilation of the compartment. To maintain comfortable environment in the compartment, the automatic ventilation system is needed to exchange the indoor air with fresh air or clean indoor air. In this study, we investigated the indoor air quality (PM-10, $CO_2$, and VOCs) in the compartment of train. In addition, type and pattern of PM-10 has been analyzed through the clustering analysis. Based on the analysis, we could found that the fine particulate matters in the compartment can be a serious hazard to human. To control the concentration of PM-10 and $CO_2$ air cleaners were developed. Through this study, it is expected that people who take a train will be in a more comfortable environment.

The road tunnel install a vent for the purpose of ventilation and smoke control. Ventilation equipment capacity(number of jet fans) depends on from the condition that of the pressure and ventilation resistance. Pressure and the resistance under operating vehicle have affected on the drag coefficient. The drag coefficient of the tunnel have affected by the blockage effect and slipstream effects. However, when calculating the ventilation fan, are not properly consider taking into account such effects. Therefore, ventilation force may have been slightly overestimated. This paper describes the drag coefficient through a numerical analysis to calculate the equivalent resistance area that reflects the vehicle distance, and examined the equivalent resistance area. The ventilation coefficient corresponding to the result heavy vehicle mixing ratio of the present study was not clear. Equivalent resistance area had reduced by about 86% compared to the road design handbook current standards. Also it had analyzed and reduced to 62.2% compared to Korea Highway Corporation ventilation design criteria ratio, which is the old standard.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the improvement of the guidelines and training programs regarding the cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance of bystanders who can respond to the incidents in earlier times as the first responder of the cardiac arrest incident, by reviewing the performance of basic CPR and the influencing factors after providing 70 students of Department of Emergency Medical Technology with the CPR training. For the purpose of the study, the collected data were computerized and analyzed by SPSS-WIN program(ver. 10.1). The results for this study were as follows The duration of session between the groups in the BLS CPR were 3 minutes and 36 seconds, 2 minutes and 32 seconds respectively. The average compression number per minute were 24.3 times and 33,2 times respectively(p=.000), and the average compression rate per minute were 112 times and 122 times respectively(p=.000). The average ventilation number per minute were 3.54 times and 5.1 times respectively(p=.000). The errors in compression "Too shallow" were 20.73 times(34.6%) and 23,23 times(38,7%) out of 60 times in 4 cycles with the standard of 38 nun. In CPR performance results according to gender in the first episode, males showed better results in compression depth as 41.5 mm comparing to females average 38.2 mm(p=.015). When ventilation results were compared according to the use of FS, the average ventilation number per minute, total ventilation per minute and the average volume per episode were significantly higher when FS was not used(<.040), There was no significant difference in ventilation accuracy between two groups. According to the results, we need to improve and distribute portable barrier devices, and to be familiar with those devices. We need to enforce ventilations as well as to include compressions so that faster and more accurate CPR can be performed. Additionally, we need to exclude ventilation only cases, minimize the interference time of chest compression due to inaccurate ventilation, simplify or minimize the complicatedness of CPR performance and responding time related to breathing, provide first responders with various training programs such as initial assessment and ventilations only, or initial assessment and chest compression-only CPR and than provide advanced training with AHA BLS education including CPR for more than two people according to CPR skills and target characteristics.
