Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) has high fluidity and self-compaction characteristics. CLSM is mainly used for backfilling the excavated road. Early-age properties of CLSM should be characterized for fast restoration of the road. In this study, shear wave monitoring and Vicat needle test are performed to investigate the early-age properties of CLSM depending on the setting time. CLSM consists of CSA cement, fly ash, silt and sand, accelerator, and water. Five fly ashes with different chemical properties are used for CLSM samples. The penetration of CLSM along setting time is obtained through the Vicat needle test. A pair of bender elements are placed in a mold for shear wave measurement, and the change in shear waves with the setting time is monitored. The experimental results show that, regardless of the type of fly ash, the penetration depth decreases and the shear wave velocity increases with the setting time. Depending on the type of fly ash, initial and final times and shear wave velocity change. After testing, the correlation between penetration and shear wave velocity is obtained with high coefficient of determination. The shear wave measurement technique using the bender element can be used to identify early-age properties.
The ob.jective of this study is to determine fracture behaviors(penetrati0n modes) and resistance to penetration duringballistic impact of Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates and anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates. Resistance to penetration is determined by $V_{50}$ ballistic limit, a statical velocity with 50% probability for complete penetration, test method. Fracture behaviors and ballistic tolerance, described by penetration modes, are respectfully observed that result from V50 test and Projectile Through Plates (PTP) test at velocities greater than $V_{50}$. PTP tests were conducted with 0" obliquity at room temperature using 5.56mm ball projectile. $V_{50}$ tests with 0" obliquity at room temperature were conducted with projectiles that were able to achieve near or complete penetration during PTP tests. Surface Hardness, resistance to penetration, and penetration modes of A1 5052-H34 alloy laminates compared to those of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates.y laminates.
In order to investigate the fracture behaviors (penetration modes) and the resistance to penetration during ballistic impact of Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates, cold-rolled Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates, anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates, and anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy after cold-rolling, a ballistic testing was conducted. In general, superior armor materials are brittle materials which have a high hardness. Ballistic resistance of these materials was measured by a protection ballistic limit (V$_{50}$), a statistical velocity with 50% probability fur incompletete penetration. Fracture begaviors and ballistic tolerance, described by penetration modes, ate observed from the results from the results of V$_{50}$ test and Projectile Through Plates (PTP) test at velocities greater than V$_{50}$, respectively. PTP tests were conducted with 0$_{\circ}$obliquity at room temperature using 5.56mm ball projectile. V$_{50}$ tests with 0$_{\circ}$obliquity at room temperature were concucted with projectiles that could achieve neat or complete penetration during PTP tests. Surface hardness, resistance to penetration, and penetration modes of Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates are compared to those of cold-rolled Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates and anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy laminates and anodized Al 5052-H34 cold-rolled alloy.

The tail flip of the decapod shrimp is a main feature in escaping behavior from the mesh of the codend in the trawl. The characteristics of tail flip in target prawn was observed and analyzed in a water tunnel in respect of flow condition and mesh penetration by a high speed video camera (500 fps). The tail bending angle or bending time in static water was significantly different than in flow water (0.7 m/s) and resultantly the angular velocity in static water was significantly higher than in flow water when carapace was fixed condition. When escaping through vertical traverse net panel in water flow the relative moving angle and relative passing angle to flow direction during tail flip, it significantly decreases the number of shrimps escaping than the case of blocking shrimp. The bending angles of tail flip between net blocking and passing through mesh were not significantly different while the bending time of shrimp passing through mesh was significantly longer than when shrimp blocking on the net. Accordingly the angular velocity of passing through mesh was significantly slower than blocking on the net although the angular velocity of the tail flip was not significantly related with carapace length. The main feature of tail flip for mesh penetration was considered as smaller diagonal direction as moving and passing angle in relation to net panel as right angle to flow direction rather than the angular velocity of tail flip.
Using the Lagrangian explicit time-integration finite element code NET3D which can treat three-dimensional high-velocity impact problems, oblique penetration processes of long rod projectile with yaw against thin plate are simulated. Through the comparison of simulation result with experimental result and other code's computational result, the adaptability and accuracy of NET3D is evaluated under the complex situation in which yaw angle and oblique angle exist simultaneously. Main research contents to be handled in this paper include the followings. First, the accuracy and efficiency estimation of NET3D code result obtained from the oblique penetration simulations of long rod projectile with yaw against thin plate. Second, the effect of increasing impact velocity. Third, the effect of initial yaw for the spaced-plate target. Residual velocities, residual lengths, angular velocities, and final deformed configurations obtained from the NET3D computations are compared with the experimental results and other code's computational results such as Eulerian code MESA and Lagrangian code EPIC. As a result of comparisons, it has been found that NET3D code is superior to EPIC code and MESA code in the prediction capability of residual velocity and residual length of penetrator. The key features obtained from the experiment can be successfully reproduced through NET3D simulations. Throughout the study, the applicability and accuracy of NET3D as a metallic armor system design tool is verified.
In order to reduce the number of casualties by improving the survivability of the combat vehicle, the vulnerability analysis of the combat vehicle is needed. However, the actual test for the vulnerability analysis requires large experimental space and expensive equipment costs long time and large expense. It is needed to develop a new method that can replace the actual test. In the paper, we suggested a new approach to analyzing the vulnerability using the M&S method instead of the actual test. To analyze the vulnerability, the shot line analysis is performed to find out which part is penetrated by the bullet. The component of the parts is simplified to "Single-Target", "Double-Target", "Air gapped-Target" and can be performed the penetration analysis using the ANSYS Explicit Dynamics. The penetration depth and the residual velocity of the bullet are calculated by analyzing penetration of each part of the combat vehicle. The penetration data calculated the penetration analysis can be used to define the damage level of the combat vehicle. The purpose of this paper is to collect penetration data for various targets and bullets. And "7.62mmAP" is used as the bullet, "7075-T6" is used as a target.
When two layers of carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays are loaded to mate, the free ends of individual CNTs come into contact at the interface of the two layers. This leads to a higher contact resistance due to a smaller contact region. However, when the free CNT ends of one array penetrate into the mating array, the contact region increases, effectively lowering the contact resistance. To explore the penetration of mating CNTs, we perform molecular dynamic simulations of a simple unit cell model, incorporating four CNTs in the lower array layer coupled with a single moving CNT on the upper layer. The interaction with neighboring CNTs is modelled by long-range carbon bond order potential (LCBOP I). The model structure is optimized by energy minimization through the conjugate gradient method. A NVT ensemble is used for maintain a room temperature during simulation. The time integration is performed through the velocity-Verlet algorithm. A significant vibrational motion of CNTs is captured when penetration is not available, resulting in a specific vibration mode with a high frequency. Due to this vibrational behavior, the random behaviors of CNT motion for predicting the penetration are confirmed under the specific gap distances between CNTs. Thus, the probability of penetration is examined according to the gap distance between CNTs in the lower array and the aspect ratio of CNTs. The penetration is significantly affected by the vibration mode due to the van der Waals forces between CNTs.
This paper presents a ballistic limit velocity measurement using the support vector machine that classifies two classes, the partial penetration and the complete penetration, by generating a linear separating hyperplane that equally divides the classes. For the ballistic limit velocity measurement, the previous methods(MIL-STD-662F and NIJ-STD-0101.06) have required a large number of experiments that caused high cost and time. However, the proposed method is not only flexible, requiring 0.85 ~ 4.8 times fewer experiments but also reliable, providing less than 2 % difference in results compared to the previous methods. For its validation, live fire experiments were conducted using various thickness SS400 iron plates as a target and two different types of live bullets such as 5.56 mm M193 and 7.62 mm M80.
