An important goal of computational wind engineering is to impact the design process with simulations of flow around buildings and bridges. One challenging aspect of this goal is to solve the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations accurately. For the unsteady computations, an adaptive finite element technique may reduce the computer time and storage. The preliminary application of a p-version as well as an h-version adaptive technique to computational wind engineering has been reported in previous paper. The details on the implementation of p-adaptive technique will be discussed in this paper. In this technique, two posteriori error estimations, which are based on the velocity and vorticity, are first presented. Then, the polynomial order of the interpolation function is increased continuously element by element until the estimated error is less than the accepted. The second through sixth orders of hierarchical functions are used as the interpolation polynomials. Unequal order interpolations are used for velocity and pressure. Using the flow around a circular cylinder with Reynolds number of 1000 the two error estimators are compared. The result show that the estimated error based on the velocity is lower than that based on the vorticity.
In order to discuss the availability of the hydrostatic guideway driven by the coreless linear motor to ultra precision machine tools, a prototype of guideway is designed and tested in this research. A coreless linear DC motor with the continuous force of 156 N and a laser scale with the resulution of 10 nm are used as the feeding system. The experiments are performed on the static stiffness. motion accuracy, positioning accuracy. microstep response and variation of velocity. The guideway has the infinite axial stiffness within 50 N of applied load, and has 0.08 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of linear motion error and 0.1 arcsec of angular motion error. It also has 0.21 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of positioning error and 0.09 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of repeatability, and it shows the stable response against the 10 nm resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 5%. From these results, it is confirmed that the hydrostatic guideway driven by the coreless linear motor is very useful for the ultra precision machine tools.
In this paper, a longitudinal control of the lead vehicle for a platoon in IVHS Regulation Layer is proposed. The backstepping method has been used for the controller design. This method has an advantage in that its stability need not be proven since the controller is designed based on the Lyapunov Function. The control object is that the lead vehicle tracks a reference velocity and maintains a safe distance between the inter-platoons while the followers are keeping the speed of the lead vehicle of a platoon. The coordinate of system is transformed to a new coordinate system for its convenience to design controller. The new coordinate system is composed of error and new error variable. The error is the difference between the safe distance and the actual distance of inter-platoons. A new error variable is the difference between the velocity of vehicle and the estimated state of a system operated by the virtual input. The Lyapunov function is obtained based on the variables of new coordinate system. In the computer simulation, several cases have been studied such as when the lead vehicle is tracking the optimal speed. or a lead vehicle of the following platoon tracks the velocity of the previous platoon while maintaining a safe distance. Also a nonlinear engine time constant case has been investigated. All the simulation results show that the designed controller satisfies the control object sufficiently.

Misalignment can be an important problem in the integration of GPS/INS. Observability analysis of the alignment errors in the integration of low-grade inertial sensors and multi-antenna GPS is presented in this paper. A control-theoretic approach is adopted to study the observability of time-varying error dynamics models. The relationship between vehicle motions and the observability of the errors in the lever arm and relative attitude between GPS antenna array and IMU is given. It is shown that alignment errors can be made observable through maneuvering. The change of acceleration makes the components of the relative attitude error that are orthogonal to the direction of the acceleration change observable. The change of angular velocity makes the components of the lever arm error that are orthogonal to the direction of the angular velocity observable. The motion of constant angular velocity has no influence on the estimation of the lever arm.

This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy for a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system, which contains the rotor position error information. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error at zero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gain of the rotor position tracking controller has a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. Then, at zero speed, the rotor position and velocity have sluggish dynamics because the varying gains are very low in this region. In order to boost the bandwidth of the PI controller during zero speed, the loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The PI tuning formulas are also derived by analyzing this control system by frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.
In the paper, we suggest bettered EHMECS(Enhanced Hybrid Multi Electrical Cupping System) to regulate automatically vacuum pressure using many cupping cup at once. We controlled accurately the pressure using S-PI control technique in pump motor to input the air inside cupping cup. S-PI control compared constant velocity, load and velocity variance between existing PI and FLC(Fuzzy Logic Control). The stabilization time of suggested S-PI control improve 20% of existing PI and 8% of FLC. The error constant of normal condition improved 71% of existing PI and 62% of FLC in steady speed and 80% of existing PI and 67% of FLC in load change. Also the error constant about velocity variance improve 45% of PI control. It is prove the suggested S-PI control technique. When use long time vacuum pressure of cupping cup regulated the suggested S-PI control technique, can loosen knotted muscles.
This paper analyzes the characteristics of pre-sliding friction of an X-Y table of CNC machining center at velocity reversal, and presents a simple and effective method of friction compensation based on this characteristics. At velocity reversal, a large position tracking error occurs because of the discontinuous change of friction. The relationship between the occurrence time of maximum position tracking error and the acceleration at zero velocity is analyzed by using the spring-like friction model. Furthermore, the experimental observation verifies this relation. From this, the state transition tine from pre-sliding regime into sliding regime can be predicted. Using the predicted transition time, the friction can be effectively compensated and table experimental results show its effectiveness.
In this paper, we design the signal processing unit to effectively support the proposed algorithm for an automotive Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave(FMCW) radar. In the proposed method, we can obtain the distance and velocity with improved error depending on each range(long, middle, and short) of the target. Since a high computational capacity is required to obtain more accurate distance and velocity for target in near range, the proposed signal processing unit employs the time de-interleaving and the frequency interpolation method to overcome the limitation. Moreover, for real-time signal processing, the parallel architecture is used to extract simultaneously the distance and velocity in each range.
The velocity trajectory profile of trolley is designed to minimize both swinging while transportation of load and the stop position error at the final stop position. This profile is designed to be automatically programmed by the digital control algorithm when the length of chain and the desired travel distance are given as a priori. Also, to minimize both swinging and the stop position error the anti-swing controller which improves poor damping characteristics of the crane and the stop position controller are employed. The experimentalresults of sequential adaptation of the velocity trajectory profile and these two controllers show that this control scheme has excellent control performance as compared with that of the uncontrolled crane system.
In this study, the Chiu-2D velocity-flow rate distribution based on theoretical background of the entropy probability method was applied to actual ADCP measurement data of Gangjung Stream in Jeju from July 2011 to June 2015 to predict the parameter that take part in velocity distribution of the stream. In addition, surface velocity measured by SIV (Surface Image Velocimeter) was applied to the predicted parameter to calculate discharge. Calculated discharge was compared with observed discharge of ADCP observed during the same time to analyze propriety and applicability of depth of water velocity average conversion factor. To check applicability of the predicted stream parameter, surface velocity and discharge were calculated using SIV and compared with velocity and flow based on ADCP. Discharge calculated by applying velocity factor of SIV to the Chiu-2D velocity-flow rate distribution and discharge based on depth of water velocity average conversion factor of 0.85 were $0.7171m^3/sec$ and $0.5758m^3/sec$, respectively. Their error rates compared to average ADCP discharge of $0.6664m^3/sec$ were respectively 7.63% and 13.64%. Discharge based on the Chiu-2D velocity-flow distribution showed lower error rate compared to discharge based on depth of water velocity average conversion factor of 0.85.
