  • Instantaneous velocity distribution within coaxial circular pipe for measurement velocity of high speed is acquired simultaneously by applying the 2-dimensional PTV system consisting of a pulse generator(AOM:Acousto-Optical Modulator), a continuous-output laser and a PC image grabber together with experimental apparatus. The basic mechanism of AOM and vector identification method and performance-related image processing techniques are discussed. Representative measuring regions $90{\times}90$mm are selected and instantaneous vectors are represented and fully developed turbulent flow of maximum velocity up to about 1.0 m/sec is obtained.

  • The dynamic particle image velocimetry (PIV) is consisted of a high frequency pulse laser, high speed cameras and a timing controller. The three velocity components of flow downstream of an axial flow fan for PC cooling system are measured using the dynamic PIV system. An Axial flow fan has seven blades of 72 mm in diameter. The rotating speed is 1800 rpm. The downstream flow is visualized by smoke particles of about $0.3-1\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. The three-dimensional instantaneous velocity fields are measured at three downstream planes. The swirl velocity component was diffused downstream and the change in time-mean vorticity distribution downstream was also discussed. The spatio-temporal change in axial velocity component with the blades passing is recognized by the instantaneous vector maps. And the dynamic behavior of vorticity moving with the rotating blades is discussed using the unsteady vorticity maps.

  • In the chemical, mineral and electronics industries, mechanically stirred tanks are widely used for complex liquid and particle mixing processes. In order to understand the complex phenomena that occur in such tanks, it is necessary to investigate flow field in the vessel. Most difficulty on the numerical analysis of stirred tank flow field focused particularly on free surface analysis. In order to decrease the dead zone and improve the flow efficiency of a system with free surface, this paper presents a new method that overcomes free surface effects by properly combining the benefits of using experiment and 3-D CFD. This method is applied to study the mixing flow in an agitated tank. From the results of experimental studies using the PIV (particle image velocimetry) system, the distribution of mixing flow including free surface are obtained. And these values that are expressed as a velocity vector field have been patched for simulating the free surface. The results of velocity distribution obtained by 3-D CFD are compared with those of experimental results. The experimental data and the simulation results are in good agreement.

  • The present study formulates the theory of spontaneously emitted electromagnetic fluctuations in magnetized plasmas containing particles with an anisotropic suparthermal (bi-Kappa) velocity distribution function. The formalism is general applying for an arbitrary wave vector orientation and wave polarization, and for any wave-frequency range. As specific applications, the high-frequency electromagnetic fluctuations emitted in the upper-hybrid and multiple harmonic electron cyclotron frequency range are evaluated. The fluctuations for low-frequency are also applied, which include the kinetic $Alfv\acute{e}n$, fast magnetosonic/whistler, kinetic slow mode, ion Bernstein cyclotron modes, and higher-order modes. The model predictions are confirmed by a comparison with particle-in-cell simulations. The study describes how energetic particles described by kappa velocity distribution functions influence the spectrum of high and low frequency fluctuations in magnetized plasmas. The new formalism provides quantitative analysis of naturally occurring electromagnetic fluctuations, and contribute to an understanding of the electromagnetic fluctuations observed in space plasmas, where kappa-distributed particles are ubiquitous.

  • In this study, MODFLOW model is used to analyze the groundwater flow system of Seoguipo area in Cheju island, The final parameters of permeability coefficient and storage coefficient of target area can be obtained by trial and error method using the measured data of pumping rate as initial values. And it is found that the applicability for groundwater flow system is reflected well from the simulation result of the model. Seoguipo area spring water is thought to appear by relatively stable groundwater recharge below EL. 400m according to head distribution through the analysis of observed data considering topographic and geological characteristics, Lee's study(996), and the simulation result. Also it is known that point II, III, and VI show relatively large velocity vectors, and groundwater flows through the movement path which is distributed in various directions of I, II, III, IV, V, VI, and VIl form the result of velocity vector analysis using head distribution result values to analyze the groundwater flow path under unsteady flow condition.dition.

  • This study conducted CFD analysis on the mean velocity vector of distribution of the ejector driven pipe while changing the inlet velocity to 1 m/s at the diameter ratio of diffuser of 1:3, 1:2.25, 1:1.8 with the end position of driven pipe at 1, 1.253, 1.333, 1.467 respectively, which used $k-{\varepsilon}$/High Reynolds Number for the turbulence model, SIMPLE method for the analysis algorithm, and PIV experiment to verify the CFD analysis. As a result of the CFD analysis the optimum diameter ratio of ejector driven pipe was 1:3, the optimum end position of driven pipe was 1.333 for the diameter ratio of 1:3, 1:2.25, 1:1.8 and the PIV experiment obtained the same result as the CFD analysis. Therefore, the numerical analysis of the flow characteristics of ejector can be used for the optimum design implementation on ejector system.

  • The flow characteristic in the wake around a circular cylinder with tripping wires, which was set in constant distance, was experimentally investigated in the uniform flow, Re=2.92$\times10^4$. The measurement of velocity vector and pressure distribution are carried out various angles of tripping wires in the range of $50^(\circ)$ to $80^(\circ)$ with $10^(\circ)$ interval. The results show that velocity profiles and pressure distributions are different with angles of tripping wires. The drag of the circular cylinder was decreased about 60% maximum when tripping wires' angle was $50^(\circ)$. The lowest reduction of the velocity and wake width was occurred by coanda effect when the angle was $60^(\circ)$, and the vortex shedding periodicity become rare at the same time.

  • The present experimental study is aimed to investigate the flow characteristics of the high-speed flow field within hot-water pump by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). As multi-point simultaneous velocity acquisition, 2-D PIV system based upon the two-frame gray-level cross correlation method is adopted using PC frame-grabber and simple video system. Gated image intensifier CCD Camera to cope with illumination problem is arranged for accurate PIV measurement of high-speed complex flow. The velocity vector distribution, velocity profile, and kinetic energy are represented quantitatively at the full-scale region for the deeper understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics in a pump.

  • A scanning stereo-PIV system was developed to measure the three-dimensional distribution of three-component velocity in a turbulent round jet. A laser light beam produced by a high repetition rate YLF pulse laser was expanded vertically by a cylindrical lens to form a laser light sheet. The light sheet is scanned in a direction normal to the sheet by a flat mirror mounted on an optical scanner, which is controlled by a programmable scanner controller. Two high-speed mega-pixel resolution C-MOS cameras captured the particle images illuminated by the light sheet, and stereoscopic PIV method was adopted to acquire the 3D-3C-velocity distribution of turbulent round jet in an octagonal tank filled with water. The jet Reynolds number was set at Re=1000 and the streamwise location of the measurement was fixed at approximately x = 40D. Time evolution of three-dimensional vortical structure, which is identified by vorticity, is visualized. It revealed that the existence of a group of hairpin-like vortex structures was quite evident around the rim of the shear layer of the jet. Turbulence statistics shows good agreement with the previous data, and divergence of a filtered (unfiltered) velocity vector field was $7\%\;(22\%)$ of root-me an-squared vorticity value.
