55 zooplankton taxa including 35 copepoda were observed in the Uldolmok waterway during the sampling period from August 2003 to April 2004. Neritic species showed the seasonal species fluctuation, and oceanic warm-water species occurred throughout the year. The number of taxa tended to increase at the flood tide from low tide to high tide, and to decrease at the ebb tide from high tide to low tide. Therefore, species composition of zooplankton in the Uldolmok waterway seemed to be affected by the inflow of oceanic waters with oceanic species all the year round. Total abundance of zooplankton ranged from 104 (February 2004) to 2,717 indiv. $m^{-3}$ (August 2003). According to the tidal cycle, the change of total abundance was more irregular and variable in November 2003 and February 2004 than August 2003 and April 2004. In August 2003 and April 2004, total abundance was low at the strong tide, and was high at low and high tide when tidal current was weak. Average abundances of dominant species such as Paracalanus indicus, Cirripedia nauplii and Acartia hongi were on the order of twice higher at ebb tide than flood tide. However, their abundances were also subject to wide fluctuation within flood tide and ebb tide. The changes of environmental parameters such as water temperature, salinity and chlorophyll-a concentration were negligible along the tidal periods in the Uldolmok waterway. Therefore, the advection, transfer and loss of zooplankton population derived from strong tidal current and eddy formed by the local difference of tidal velocity lead temporal variation of zooplankton community more complex and variable in the Uldolmok waterway.
The characteristics of Doppler shifts in a quiet region of the Sun are investigated by comparing between the $H{\alpha}$ line and the Caii infrared line at 854.2 nm. A small area of $16^{\prime\prime}{\times}40^{\prime\prime}$ was observed for about half an hour with the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) of the 1.6 meter New Solar Telescope (NST) at Big Bear Solar Observatory. The observed area contains a network region and an internetwork region, and identified in the network region are $H{\alpha}$ fibrils, Caii fibrils and bright points. We infer the Doppler velocity from each line profile at a point with the lambdameter method as a function of half wavelength separation ${\Delta}{\lambda}$. It is confirmed that the bisector of the spatially-averaged Caii line profile has an inverse C-shape of with a significant peak redshift of +1.8 km/s. In contrast, the bisector of the spatially-averaged $H{\alpha}$ line profile has a different shape; it is almost vertically straight or, if not, has a C-shape with a small peak blueshift of -0.5 km/s. In both the lines, the bisectors of bright network points are much different from those of other features in that they are significantly redshifted not only at the line centers, but also at the wings. We also find that the spatio-temporal fluctuation of Doppler shift inferred from the Caii line is correlated with those of the $H{\alpha}$ line. The strongest correlation occurs in the internework region, and when the inner wings rather than the line centers are used to determine Doppler shift. In this region, the RMS value of Doppler shift fluctuation is the largest at the line center, and monotonically decreases with ${\Delta}{\lambda}$. We discuss the physical implications of our results on the formation of the $H{\alpha}$ line and Caii 854.2 nm line in the quiet region chromosphere.
Variabilities in the solar wind cause disturbances throughout the heliosphere on all temporal and spatial scales, which leads to changeable space weather. As a view of space weather forecasting, in particular, it is important to know direct and indirect causes modulating the space environment near the Earth in advance. Recently, there are discussions on a role of the interaction of the solar wind with Mercury in affecting the solar wind velocity in the Earth's neighborhood during its inferior conjunctions. In this study we investigate a question of whether other parameters describing the space environment near the Earth are modulated by the inner planets' wake, by examining whether the interplanetary magnetic field and the proton density in the solar wind observed by the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) spacecraft, and the geomagnetic field via the Dst index and Auroral Electrojet index (AE index) are dependent upon the relative position of the inner planets. We find there are indeed apparent variations. For example, the mean variations of the geomagnetic fields measured in the Earth's neighborhood apparently have varied with a timescale of about 10 to 25 days. Those variations in the parameters we have studied, however, turn out to be a part of random fluctuations and have nothing to do with the relative position of inner planets. Moreover, it is found that variations of the proton density in the solar wind, the Dst index, and the AE index are distributed with the Gaussian distribution. Finally, we point out that some of properties in the behavior of the random fluctuation are to be studied.
Previous long-term measurements of the Uldolmok tidal current power plant showed that the structure's natural frequencies fluctuate with a constant cycle-i.e., twice a day with changes in tidal height and tidal current velocity. This study aims to improve structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques for offshore structures under a harsh tidal environment like the Uldolmok Strait. In this study, lab-scale experiments on a simplified offshore structure as a lab-scale test structure were conducted in a circulating water channel to thoroughly investigate the causes of fluctuation of the natural frequencies and to validate the displacement estimation method using multimetric data fusion. To this end, the numerical study was additionally carried out on the simplified offshore structure with damage scenarios, and the corresponding change in the natural frequency was analyzed to support the experimental results. In conclusion, (1) the damage that occurred at the foundation resulted in a more significant change in natural frequencies compared with the effect of added mass; moreover, the structural system became nonlinear when the damage was severe; (2) the proposed damage index was able to indicate an approximate level of damage and the nonlinearity of the lab-scale test structure; (3) displacement estimation using data fusion was valid compared with the reference displacement using the vision-based method.
A computational study of a thermal striping in the upper plenum of PGSFR(Prototype Generation-IV Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor) being developed at the KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) is presented. The LES(Large Eddy Simulation) approach is employed for the simulation of thermal striping in the upper plenum of the PGSFR. The LES is performed using the WALE (Wall-Adapting Local Eddy-viscosity) model. More than 19.7 million unstructured elements are generated in upper plenum region of the PGSFR using the CFX-Mesh commercial code. The time-averaged velocity components and temperature field in the complicated upper plenum of the PGSFR are presented. The time history of temperature fluctuation at the eight locations of solid walls of UIS(Upper Internal Structure) and IHX(Intermediate Heat eXchanger) are additionally stored. It has been confirmed that the most vulnerable regions to thermal striping are the first plate of UIS. From the temporal variation of temperature at the solid walls, it was possible to find the locations where the thermal stress is large and need to assess whether the solid structures can endure the thermal stress during the reactor life time.

A numerical study is made on the ice-formation for a laminar flow in a curved channel. When the water flows through the curved channel with the walls specified below the freezing temperature, the ice layer has been formed on the curved surface, different from that of a straight channel. The fluctuation of ice layer has been predicted, considering the variation of velocity and temperature near the curved portion of channel. The study also takes into account the interaction existing between the laminar flow and the curved channel. In the solution strategy, the present study is substantially different from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. The results from this study have been mainly presented, focusing on the variation of ice layer close to the curved portion. Numerical results have been obtained parametrically by varying the curved angle and the radius of curvature of channel, in addition to the variation of Reynolds numbers and wall temperatures of channel. The results show that the curved shape of channel has the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer. The wave of ice layer thickness appears in the vicinity of curved portion. This behavior of ice layer has been amplified as is the increasing of curved angle and the radius of curvature of channel. In addition, the ice layer becomes thin as Reynolds numbers in increasing. And also, as the wall temperature of channel increases, the width of channel becomes to be shrunk due to the growth of ice layers in the upper and lower wall of channel.

Premixed flame is better than diffusion flame to accomplish a high loading combustion. Since the turbulent characteristics of unburned mixture has a great influence on the flame structure, it is general that many researchers realize a high loading combustion with strengthening turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. Because turbulent premixed flame reacts efficiently on the condition of distributed reaction region, we made high turbulent premixed flame in the doubled impingement field. We investigated turbulent characteristics of unburned mixture with increasing shear force and visualized flames with direct and Schlieren photographs. And the combustion characteristics of flame was elucidated by instantaneous temperature measurement with a thermocouple, by ion currents with a micro electrostatic probe, by radical luminescence intensity and local equivalence ratio. Extremely strong turbulent of small scale is generated by impingement of mixture, and turbulent intensity of unburned mixture increased with the mean velocity. As a result of direct photographs, visible region of flame became longer due to increasing central direction flux. But as strengthed turbulent intensity, visible region of flame turned to shorter and reaction occurred efficiently. As strengthened turbulent intensity of mixture with increasing flux of central direction, maximum fluctuating temperature region moved to radial direction and fluctuation of temperature became lower. The reason is influx of central direction which caused flame zone to move toward radial direction, to maintain flame zone stable and to make flame scale smaller.

The traditional cuff-based method for BP(Blood Pressure) measurement is not suitable for continuous real-time BP measurement techniques. For this reason, the previous studies estimated various blood pressures by fusion with the electrocardiography (ECG) and photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor signals. However, conventional techniques based on PPG bio-sensing measurement face many challenging issues such as noisy supply fluctuation, small pulsation, and drifting non-pulsatile. This paper proposed a novel BP estimation methods using PPG and ECG sensors, which can be derived from the relationship between PPG and ECG using PTT(Pulse Transit Time) and PWV(Pulse Wave Velocity). Unlike conventional height ratio features, which are extracted on the basis of the peaks in the PPG and ECG waveform. The proposed method can be reliably obtained even if there are missing peaks among the sensed PPG signal. The increased reliability comes from periodical estimation of the peak-to-peak interval time using ECG and PPG. After 250,000 times trials of the blood pressure measurement, the proposed estimation technique was verified with the accuracy of ±28.5% error, compared to a commercialized BP device.
The changes on community structures of benthic macroinvertebrates, relevance to the environment and interrelationship between benthos were studied over two years in stream with large environmental disturbance, which caused by localized heavy rain during Typhoon Chaba in October 2016. As a result, the number of species and individuals were increased after localized heavy rain, especially numbers of individuals of Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera were greatly increased. On the contrary, those of Semisulcospira libertina and Semisulcospira forticosta of Mesogastropoda were greatly decreased. Dominant species was Baetis fuscatus of Ephemeroptera, numbers of species and individuals of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera(EPT group) were dramatically increased from 26 species, 110 individuals to 32 species, 365 individuals respectively. This suggests that the change of river bed and flow velocity due to heavy rain provided a suitable environment for the EPT group that preferred the rift of a stream. In the functional feeding group, only gathering collectors and filtering collectors were identified in autumn of 2017 because some functional groups preferentially adapted to the changed environment. The interspecific competition and environmental condition were the worst in autumn after heavy rain due to the increase individuals of some species. The ecological score of benthic macroinvertebrate community(ESB) was higher after the heavy rain than before. Results of the Group Pollution Index(GPI), Korean Saprobic Index(KSI) and Benthic Macroinvertebrate Index(BMI) were similar to those before and after heavy rainfall. Therefore, ESB was the most discriminating method for estimating the biological water quality in this study. Some species that are sensitive to water quality changes still appear or increase individuals in the area under investigation after the heavy rain. On the other hand, the individuals of some pollutant species decreased. This is thought to be because the habitat fluctuation caused by heavy rainfall has improved the water environment.

The effects of swirl chamber's diameter and length on injector's dynamic characteristics were investigated through an experimental study. A mechanical pulsator was installed in front of the manifold of a swirl injector which produces pressure oscillations in the feed line. Pressure in the manifold, liquid film thickness in the orifice and the pressure in the orifice were measured in order to understand the dynamic characteristic of the simplex swirl injector with varying geometry. A direct pressure measuring method (DPMM) was used to calculate the axial velocity of the propellant in the orifice and the mass flow rate through the orifice. These measured and calculated values were analyzed to observe the amplitude and phase differences between the input value in the manifold and the output values in the orifice. As a result, a phase-amplitude diagram was obtained which exhibits the injector's response to certain pressure fluctuation inputs. The mass flow rate was calculated by the DPMM and measured directly through the actual injection. The effect of mean manifold pressure change was insignificant with the frequency range of manifold pressure oscillation used in this experiment. Mass flow rate was measured with the variation of injector's geometries and amplitude of the mass flow rate was observed with geometry and pulsation frequency variation. It was confirmed that the swirl chamber diameter and length affect an injector's dynamic characteristics. Furthermore, the direction of geometry change for achieving dynamic stability in the injector was suggested.
