Estimation of accurate blood volume flow in ultrasound Doppler blood flow spectrograms is extremely important for clinical diagnostic purposes. Blood volume flow measurements require the assessment of both the velocity distribution and the cross-sectional area of the vessel. Unfortunately, the existing volume flow estimation algorithms by ultrasound lack the velocity space distribution information in cross-sections of a vessel and have the problems of low accuracy and poor stability. In this paper, a new robust ultrasound volume flow estimation method based on multigate (RMG) is proposed and the multigate technology provides detail information on the local velocity distribution. In this method, an accurate double iterative flow velocity estimation algorithm (DIV) is used to estimate the mean velocity and it has been tested on in vivo data from carotid. The results from experiments indicate a mean standard deviation of less than 6% in flow velocities when estimated for a range of SNR levels. The RMG method is validated in a custom-designed experimental setup, Doppler phantom and imitation blood flow control system. In vitro experimental results show that the mean error of the RMG algorithm is 4.81%. Low errors in blood volume flow estimation make the prospect of using the RMG algorithm for real-time blood volume flow estimation possible.
Simple spanwise distribution models of deviation angle and pressure loss coefficient due to the tip leakage flow are formulated for use in association with the streamline curvature method as a flow analysis. Combining these new models with the previous deviation and loss models due to secondary flow, a robust streamline curvature method is established for flow analysis of single-stage, subsonic axial turbines with wide ranges of turning angle, aspect ratio and blading type. At the exit from rotor rows, the flow variables are mixed radially according to a spanwise transport equation. The proposed streamline curvature method is tested against a forced vortex type turbine as well as a free vortex type one. The results show that the spanwise variations of flow angle, axial velocity and loss coefficients at rotor exit are predicted with good accuracy, being comparable to a steady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. This simple and fast flow analysis is found to be very useful for the turbine design at the initial design phase.
In order to effectively protect a penetrator, the conically shaped protector was proposed and the protection capability was investigated. The collision and penetration of the penetrator with the protector were analyzed using dynamic finite element analysis. The post impact behaviors of the penetrator, i.e., flying velocity and the change of attitude angle, were monitored to investigate the protection capability. The flying velocity and the attitude angle are used to investigate the deviation and the penetration power respectively. The effect of rotation speed of the protector and the collision position on the protection capability is investigated in the viewpoint of deviation and attitude angle when penetrator colliding with our tank.
In this paper, the location measurement method for the reliable location data using ultrasonic sensors is proposed for the dimming control of the LED flat lamp. The measurement errors depending on the reflection angle of the object have to be considered to obtain the reliable location data in the ultrasonic sensors. In the experiment, the cause of the measurement errors depending on reflection angle is analyzed and velocity change of ultrasonic wave depending on reflection angle is measured. And the location measurement method depending on velocity change of ultrasonic wave is proposed. From the results, the average absolute deviation of the x-coordinates was 1.47cm when the location measurement method was considered, and it was closer to the true values than the average absolute deviation of the x-coordinates which was 5.89cm without regard to the reflection angle.
This study was conducted to improve the flow uniformity inside the chip tester through changing the flow path formation according to the inlet and outlet position of chamber. The internal flow and velocity distributions of the modified chamber models (Cases 1-3) were compared with the reference chamber model through three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with k-ε turbulence model. The modified chamber models showed the superior flow uniformity characteristics compared to the reference chamber model. To investigate the flow uniformity in the chip tester, the standard deviation of the velocity was defined and compared. Through the internal flow analysis and assesment of the standard deviation, Case 2 among the test cases including the reference model showed the best flow uniformity generally.
Shape of the pulse waveform is affected by the visco-elasticity characteristics of the arterial wall and the reflection waves generated at the bifurcations of arterial branches. This study was designed to improve the accuracy for the extraction of pulse wave features, then proved the superiority of the developed algorithm by clinical evaluation. Upstroke point of the pulse wave was used as an extraction feature since it is minimally affected by the waveform variation. R-peak of the ECG was used as a reference to decide the minimum level, then intersection of the least squares of regression line was used as an upstroke point. Developed algorithm was compared with the existing minimum value detection algorithm and tangent-intersection algorithm using data obtained from 102 subjects. Developed algorithm showed the least standard deviation of $0.29{\sim}0.44\;m/s$ compared with that of the existing algorithms, $0.91{\sim}3.66\;m/s$. Moreover, the rate of standard deviation of more than 1.00m/s for the PWV values reduced with the range of $29.0{\sim}42.4%$, which proved the superiority of the newly developed algorithm.
This study investigated the embedded depth of guardrail posts through 3-D soil material model and carried out evaluation of the dynamic performance of guard rail. In order to calculate for embedded depth of sloping ground, displacement of guardrail posts is analyzed according to the embedded depth of experiment variables. Through the static test of guardrail posts, the maximum deflection was found to decrease the interval. By performing the dynamic test using the Bogie Car, that is confirmed the elastic modulus of the soil occuring the maximum deflection. Guardrail posts is considered to need for further reinforcement in the larger slope than the plains. This study researched about maximum displacement and deviation velocity through dynamic performance of guardrail system and conducted analysis about protection performance evaluation of passenger.
The tension of warp from trawler and sea-floor contact can generate tilt and wake turbulence around otter boards. Preliminary measurements of otter board tilt and 3-D flow velocity during bottom trawl operations were taken using a vector instrument to investigate the effects of wake turbulence at the trailing edge of the otter board. Tilt data (i.e., yaw, pitch, and roll) at 1 Hz and flow data (velocities in the towing, lateral, and vertical directions) at 16 Hz were analyzed to determine their periods and amplitudes using global wavelet and peak event analyses. The mean period (${\pm}standard$ deviation) of the tilt from the peak event analysis ($5{\pm}2s$) was longer or double than that of flow velocity ($3{\pm}2s$). The two periods also had a significant linear relationship. The turbulence rate of flow was 30-50% at the trailing edge and was closely related to roll deviation. The frequency of phase difference ratios (i.e., peak time differences between tilts and flow periods) was significantly different from random occurrence in two trials, possibly due to side tidal effects. However, in the other trials, flow peaks were random, as shown by the even peak times between tilts and flows. Future studies should focus on reducing tilt variation, wake turbulence, and bottom contact to stabilize otter board motion.
The pressure fluctuations in a gas-solid fluidized bed has been analysed using s statistical method interpreting fluidized 냥d behavior. The performing statistical a analysis of the pressure fluctuations in a fluidized bed of 6.7cm-ID. using uniform p particle size of 115 to $1015{\mu}m$ in diameter. The fluidized gas used air(velocity 0.1~1.2m/sec) at settled bed height to diameter ratios which is LlD=l.O. Then, the pressure fluctuations measured by DPT(differantial pressure transducer). The measuring characteristic values of pressure fluctuation were the mean value and standard value, and also, it has been found that the standard deviation of the pressure fluctuations can be effectively used to predict minimum fluidizing velocity and to explain the fluidized phenomena.
The effects of air velocity and excess air on combustion characteristics were studied in a fluidized bed combustor. The domestic low-grade anthracite coal with heating value of 2010 kcal/kg and the imported bituminous coal from Australia with heating value of 6520 kcal/kg were used as coal samples. The combustion characteristics of mixed fuels in a fluidized bed combustor could be interpreted by pressure fluctuation properties, ash distribution and gas emission. The properties of the pressure fluctuations, such as the standard deviation, cross-correlation function, dominant frequency and the power spectral density function, were obtained from the statistical analysis. From this study, the combustion region increased with increasing air velocity but decreased with excess air due to combustion characteristics of anthracite and bituminous coal.
