  • Recently, the reduction of vehicle weight has been increasingly studied, in order to enhance the fuel efficiency of passenger cars. In particular, the seat frame is being studied actively, owing to considerations of driver safety from external impact damage. Therefore, this study focuses on high strength steel sheet (SPFC980)/polymer heterojunction hybrid materials, and their performance in regards to impact energy absorption. The ratio of impact energy absorption was observed to be relatively higher in the SPFC980/polymer hybrid materials under the impact load. This was found by calculating the equivalent flexural rigidity, which is the bending effect, according to the Castigliano theorem. An efficient wire-web structure was investigated through the simulation of different wire-web designs such as triangular, rectangular, octagonal, and hexagonal structures. The hexagonal wire-web structure was shown to have the least impact damage, according to the simulations. This study can be utilized for seat frame design for passengers' safety, owing to efficient impact absorption.

  • For the launch preparation of KSLV-I, gaseous nitrogen with various level of pressure and cryogenic liquid nitrogen are required. Nitrogen Supply System on launch complex has been developed to perform the production of high pressure gaseous nitrogen, the production of gaseous nitrogen with temperature of 273 ${\pm}$ 2K for protection purge of launch vehicle after loading of propellant and the supply of cryogenic liquid nitrogen for cooling of fuel (kerosene) and oxidizer (liquid oxygen). The operational instability of vaporizer mainly caused by its heat transfer characteristics which sensitively depends on the atmospheric conditions was removed by introducing parallel installation of two vaporizer and their switching operation. The developed Nitrogen Supply System carried out its function successfully in preparation of KSLV-I flight tests.

  • Environmental problems are issued throughout all over the world and which are needed the strength management. In case of the diesel cars are also being developing and studying continuously about various after-treatments device such as EGR, LNT, SCR, DPF and DOC etc. which are used for decreasing $NO_X$ and PM. The air temperature goes up to $39^{\circ}C$ in summer and goes down to $-20^{\circ}C$ in winter because of the location. These changing of the temperature can effect to the engine and harmful exhaust gas discharged and it seems to make the increase - decrease different. The result of the evaluate while changing between the test-mode and the air temperature, which expresses that WLTC-mode is 2.2 times and FTP_75 mode is 4.1~6 times increase to the comparison NEDC-mode of the current regulation. The exhaust characteristic of $NO_X$ by the changing temperature increases in the low temperature and 4.3 times in $14^{\circ}C$ and 21.3 times in $-7^{\circ}C$ with maximum when it compares to $23^{\circ}C$. The fuel efficiency of the different weight car and engine with same data is about 5.7 % in maximum.

  • The aim of this paper was to estimate efficiency using a directional distance function to compare performances of bus agencies to determine if they have made efforts to operate efficiently and reduce emissions and accidents since public transportation reforms 2004. Drivers, mechanics, staff, buses, and fuel were used as input data and vehicle-kilometers (a desirable output), accident costs, and emission costs (undesirable outputs) as output data during June 2005. As a result, the efficiency with undesirable outputs was lower than the efficiency without undesirable outputs. However, the number of efficient agencies was more in case of the consideration of undesirable outputs. The reason is that the number of agencies whose possibility to reduce undesirable outputs are less than the possibility to reduce inputs was increasing, while the efficiency deviation among agencies was larger in case of the consideration of undesirable outputs. Meanwhile, the increase of CNG buses and operating speed and the improvement of mechanical efficiency had positive influence on the efficiency.

  • Large scale fire tests were conducted to develop water mist nozzles as a component of fixed water- based fire fighting systems for Ro-Ro spaces and special category spaces. Fire scenarios for this system consist of two cases which are for cargo fire in a simulated truck and for passenger vehicle fire, and each case has 3 different tests according to the position between fixed water mist nozzles and fire source. Every experiment proceeded for 30 minutes and acceptance criteria were based on gas temperature, fuel package's damage and ignition of targets. This study primarily dealt with the experimental results of cargo fire and focused on fire suppression capability in accordance with discharge pressure, flow rate and flow characteristics like swirl and penetration of the developed water mist nozzles. It appeared that low pressure water mist nozzles with about 40 L/min were able to control fire occurred in Ro-Ro spaces.

  • People's interest in the environmental problems of the Earth is growing as they come to the modern world, and research is being actively conducted on how to protect the environment. As a result, the automobile industry, one of the causes of environmental pollution, is also affected. Therefore, research is being conducted to improve the fuel economy and light weight of cars, development of pollution-free cars such as electric cars, and aluminium materials that are lighter than ordinary steel sheets and easier to recycle are gaining attention. In this experiment, the material was formed to form a form of aluminium and the material reduction rate of the side wall of the foam was tested according to the amount of side wall. The material used in the experiment was A3003-O, which is less plastic than normal steel plates, but has excellent corrosion resistance, plasticity and weldability compared to aluminium materials, but has poor tensile strength. For tensile testing, a certain array of Forming Shapes was molded and the height of the Forming was set to 5mm, and the height of the Forming was 4.7mm, indicating that the difference between the first 5mm Forming and the height was not large. In addition, the material reduction rate was tested by giving 15, 0, and -0.15 teas, respectively, and was found to be valuable as a product only for -0.15.

  • Recently, due to various environmental problems such as global warming, increases of international oil prices, exhaustion of resource, a paradigm of world automobile market is rapidly changing from conventional vehicles using internal combustion engine to eco-friendly vehicles using electric power such as EV, HEV, PHEV and FCEV. Generally, in order to measure fuel consumption and pollutant emissions of cars, chassis dynamometer tests are performed on various driving cycles before actual driving test. There are many driving cycles for performance evaluation of conventional vehicles. However, there is a lack of researches on driving cycle for EV. In this study, the urban driving cycle for performance evaluation of electric vehicles was developed. This study is composed of two parts. In the part 1, the urban driving cycle 'GUDC-EV(Gwacheon-city Urban Driving Cycle for Electric Vehicles)' was developed by using driving data, which were obtained through actual driving experiment, and statistic analysis with chronological table. In this paper part 2, in order to verify the developed driving cycle GUDC-EV, virtual EV platforms were configured and simulations were performed with actual driving data using In addition, simulation results were compared with existing driving cycles such as FTP-72, NEDC and Japan 10-15.

  • NOx, PN and CO emissions from diesel trucks make up a significant portion of domestic air pollutant emissions. Therefore, test vehicles with various emission standards and driving modes were selected to evaluate the emission characteristics of regulated pollutants (NOx, PN, CO) in medium-duty trucks. As a result of test, all test vehicles were satisfied with Euro 5 or 6 regulation. NOx emissions of Euro 6 vehicles with after-treatment of LNT + DPF were lower than those of Euro 5 vehicles with DPF. In WLTC mode, all vehicles have high NOx emissions at section of extra high speeds, which are determined by increased fuel consumption and high combustion temperatures. CO and PN emissions from all vehicles were found to be low at section of low speeds. Also, The NO2/NOx ratio was analyzed at 7-23% in each mode, and the NO2/NOx ratio increased as the average vehicle speed increased. In NIER 9 mode, the CO, HC, and PN emissions were higher under cold conditions of engine than hot conditions of engine. In addition, vehicles with after-treatment system of LNT have similar NOx emissions level in this study.
