  • For the reduction of fuel consumption of high speed, the aerodynamic drag must be reduced. In early vehicle design process, it is very important to have information about aerodynamic characteristics of design models. In this phase CFD methods are usually used to predict the aerodynamic forces. But commercial programs using turbulence models cannot give a good agreement with experimental result and have also problems with convergence. PowerFLOW employs a new technology called DIGITAL PHYSICS, which provides a different approach to simulating fluids. DIGITAL PHYSICS uses a lattice-based approach (extended from lattice-gas and lattice-Boltzmann methods) where time, space and velocity are discrete. This discrete system represents the Wavier-Stokes continuum behavior without the numerical instability Issues of traditional CFD solvers, such as convergence. In this paper, aerodynamic performance of vehicles are simulated using PowerFLOW by Exa and results are compared with experimental wind tunnel data.

  • EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is an effective strategy to control nitrogen oxides emissions from diesel engine. The EGR reduces $NO_x$ through lowering the oxygen concentration in the combustion chamber as well as through heat absorption. However, application of EGR system is difficult because of the penalty in fuel consumption and the increase in particulate matter. The engine used for the experimental was a 3-cylinder 0.8-liter turbo-charged light duty diesel engine with an electronic EGR valve. In this study, experiments were performed at variable vehicle speeds and loads on the chassis dynamometer. To evaluate the exhaust emissions with the EGR system testing was performed using cvs-75 mode test procedure. Results of the cvs-75 mode test achieve sufficiently to meet EURO3 standards.

  • Future-oriented train design should be able to provide highly refined traffic culture and public transportation service by achieving 'higher value addition, sensitization, and humanization' and then securing safety, convenience, and amenity. Therefore, design of FRT, as a means of environment-friendly public transportation, should have new concepts achieving harmony between design and technology. Consequently, when designing interior of trains for public transportation, it should aim for user-centered strategies. This approach is essentially applied to vehicle design and inducement to new concepts by design aesthetics and their verification become requirements for train Interior design, which should be equipped with sensitivity and functional images. Accordingly, a study on the correlation between constituents in order to implement design is essential to design planning and realization of strategies.

  • Transmission is one of the important pars to transmit power from engine to wheels. Mass reduction gears can make the engine power requirement reduce, and can make dynamic performance and fuel efficiency of vehicle improve. Transmission gears are modified for mass reduction without changing their tooth shapes, face widths, and modules by using shape optimization and re-check process. Also structural stability is verified by FEA.

  • This paper is concerned with the weight reduction of front side member of a vehicle considering the application of high strength steel sheet. The influence of steel sheet grade and thickness on the energy absorption, impact load and deformed shape of front side member is investigated by using reverse engineering and FE-analysis. The reverse engineering is applied to obtain 3D model of front side member from B.I.W for the FE simulation. FE analysis is carried out with commercial crash analysis SW PAM-CRASH. The crashworthiness of front side member is considerably improved with steel sheet strength and thickness increase. From the result of this study the weight reduction in automotive parts for the improvement of the fuel efficiency can be easily achieved with replacing high strength steel without deterioration of crashworthiness.

  • 본 논문에서는 전기자동차 충전 시 예상되는 선로 과부하 문제와 전압강하 문제를 해결하기 위해 연료전지를 이용한 충전 Aggregator 알고리즘을 제안한다. 충전Aggregator 알고리즘은 충전부하 투입 알고리즘과 충전부하 제거 알고리즘으로 구성되어 있다. 충전부하 투입 알고리즘은 충전부하 투입 전 선로전력과 전압강하를 예측하여 예측 된 값들이 허용범위를 초과하지 않을 경우 충전을 시작하는 알고리즘 이고 충전부하 제거 알고리즘은 전기자동차 충전 중 일반부하의 증가로 문제 발생 시 충전부하를 제거하는 알고리즘이다. 제안된 알고리즘은 PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용해서 연료전지가 연계된 특정지역의 배전계통을 모델링하여 검증하였다.

On determining the flyability of airplane rectilinear trajectories at constant velocity

  • This work is concerned with the motion of propeller driven airplanes, flying at constant velocity on ascending or descending rectilinear trajectories. Its purpose is to provide important features of rectilinear flights that are required for airplane trajectory planning but that cannot be found already published. It presents a method for calculating the amount of fuel used, the restrictions on the trajectory parameters, as inclination and speed, which result from the load factor, the lift coefficient, the positivity and upper boundedness of the power available. It presents a complete discussion of both ascending and descending flights, including gliding. Some original remarks are made about the parameters of gliding. It shows how to construct tables of parameters allowing to identify rapidly flyable trajectories. Sample calculations are shown for the Cessna 182 and a Silver Fox like unmanned aerial vehicle.

  • In the present study, the diffusion process of hydrogen leaking from a FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) in an underground parking lot was analyzed by numerical simulations in order to assess the risk of a leakage accident. The temporal and spatial changes of the hydrogen concentration as well as the flammable region in the parking lot were predicted numerically. The effects of the leakage flow rate and an additional ventilation fan were investigated to evaluate the ventilation performance in the parking lot to relieve the accumulation of the leaked hydrogen gas. The present numerical analysis can provide useful information such as the distribution of the leaked hydrogen concentration for safety of various hydrogen applications.

  • 경유엔진은 가솔린엔진에 비해 연소특성상 연료소비효율이 우수하여 온실가스인 $CO_2$ 배출이 적은 반면 대기 및 인체위해성이 높은 NOx와 입자상물질(PM)의 배출이 많아 대기저감을 위한 연료의 고압분사, 전자제어식 EGR기술등 엔진개량기술과 매연여과장치, De-NOx등 후처리기술 그리고 대체연료사용 기술등 다양한 저감대책이 전세계적으로 강구되고 있다. 특히 경유엔진에서 배출되는 오염물질로 인한 대기오염영향은 점차 증가하고 있어 대체연료사용 및 배출허용기준강화둥 우리 실정에 적합한 효율적인 대기저감대책이 강구되어야 할 것이다.
