In this paper, we present the development of P-SURO II hybrid AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) which can be operated in both of AUV and ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) modes. In its AUV mode, the vehicle is supposed to carry out some of underwater missions which are difficult to be achieved in ROV mode due to the tether cable. To accomplish its missions such as inspection and maintenance of complex underwater structures in AUV mode, the vehicle is required to have high level of autonomy including environmental recognition, obstacle avoidance, autonomous navigation, and so on. In addition to its systematic development issues, some of algorithmic issues are also discussed in this paper. Various experimental studies are also presented to demonstrate these developed autonomy algorithms.

Recently wireless intra-vehicle communication has received a great interest from the automotive industry and ultra wideband (UWB) technology is considered as one of the potential candidate for this system. Many research works have been done on the measurement and modeling of intra-vehicle communication channel. However, very little work has been reported for the performance analysis of various PHY layer methods under the intra-vehicle communication environment. This paper is to study IEEE 802.15.4a standard in intra-vehicle channel and to evaluate its performance. Channel model in chassis and engine compartment is considered for evaluation. Through simulation BER performance of system with different receiver structures is analyzed.

The present research study utilizes a multi-objective optimization method for Pareto optimization of an eight-degree of freedom full vehicle vibration model, adopting a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II). In this research, a full set of ride comfort as well as ride safety parameters are considered as objective functions. These objective functions are divided in to two groups (ride comfort group and ride safety group) where the ones in one group are in conflict with those in the other. Also, in this research, a special optimizing technique and combinational method consisting of weighted sum method and Pareto optimization are applied to transform Pareto double-objective optimization to Pareto full-objective optimization which can simultaneously minimize all objectives. Using this technique, the full set of ride parameters of three dimensional vehicle model are minimizing simultaneously. In derived Pareto front, unique trade-off design points can selected which are non-dominated solutions of optimizing the weighted sum comfort parameters versus weighted sum safety parameters. The comparison of the obtained results with those reported in the literature, demonstrates the distinction and comprehensiveness of the results arrived in the present study.

Fluid-conveying tubes are widely used to transport oil and natural gas in industries. As an advanced composite material, functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) have great potential to empower the industry. However, nonlinear free vibration of the FG-CNTRC fluid-conveying pipe has not been attempted in thermal environment. In this paper, the nonlinear free vibration characteristic of functionally graded nanocomposite fluid-conveying pipe reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in thermal environment is investigated. The SWCNTs gradient distributed in the thickness direction of the pipe forms different reinforcement patterns. The material properties of the FG-CNTRC are estimated by rule of mixture. A higher-order shear deformation theory and Hamilton's variational principle are employed to derive the motion equations incorporating the thermal and fluid effects. A two-step perturbation method is implemented to obtain the closed-form asymptotic solutions for these nonlinear partial differential equations. The nonlinear frequencies under several reinforcement patterns are presented and discussed. We conduct a series of studies aimed at revealing the effects of the flow velocity, the environment temperature, the inner-outer diameter ratio, and the carbon nanotube volume fraction on the nature frequency.

Most of mechanical structures are combined of substructures such as beams and/or plates. There are few systems with unibody structures but are many systems with united body structures. Generally the dynamic a nalysis of whole structures is performed under alternation load. In the structure design, the analysis of each bolted joint is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the analysis method of contact stress distribution factor in the bolted joint with variable fastening torque on joints in the structure. At first, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt jointed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a contact stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promisiong implications for safer design with index of contact stress distribution factor and has merits for cost-down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.

Generally the dynamic analysis of whole structures is perform ed under alternating load. However, the analysis of each joint area is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the results of analysis of concentration stress in bolt jointed structure with variable preload. At frist, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt joint ed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a concentration stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promising implications for safer design with fatigue quality index of stress concentration factor and has merit for cost down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.
In this study, the new three-dimensional finite element analysis model of guideway structures considering ultra high-speed magnetic levitation train-bridge interaction, in which the various improved finite elements are used to model structural members, is proposed. The box-type bridge deck of guideway structures is modeled by Nonconforming Flat Shell finite elements with six DOF (degrees of freedom). The sidewalls on a bridge deck are idealized by using beam finite elements and spring connecting elements. The vehicle model devised for an ultra high-speed Maglev train is employed, which is composed of rigid bodies with concentrated mass. The characteristics of levitation and guidance force, which exist between the super-conducting magnet and guideway, are modeled with the equivalent spring model. By Lagrange's equations of motion, the equations of motion of Maglev train are formulated. Finally, by deriving the equations of the force acting on the guideway considering Maglev train-bridge interaction, the complete system matrices of Maglev train-guideway structure system are composed.

The trust issue on the safety of autonomous vehicle is a very important in regard to the demand generation of relevant industries. To secure the trust, The study of legal liability issue should be prior to an accident of the autonomous vehicle. In civil law, it is possible to make the automobile manufacturer take legal responsibility with the "Product Liability Act". Whereas, in criminal law, it is difficult to make him take legal responsibility since the criminal law holds the actor responsible. To solve these problems, this article proposes the establishment of the "Special Act on Autonomous Vehicle". Also, there is a demand for building infra structures and system to operate the (fully) self-propelled vehicle and establishing "certification" systems.
An accurate identification of the aerodynamic characteristics of vehicles and the bridge is the premise for the coupled vibration analysis of a wind-vehicle-bridge system. At present, the interaction of aerodynamic forces between the road vehicles and bridge is ignored in most previous studies. In the present study, an experimental setup was developed to measure the aerodynamic characteristics of vehicles and the bridge for different cases in a wind tunnel considering the aerodynamic interference. The influence of the wind turbulence, the wind speed, the vehicle interference, and the vehicle position on the aerodynamic coefficients of vehicles, and the influence of vehicles on the static coefficients of the bridge were investigated, based on the experimental results. The variations in the aerodynamic characteristics of vehicles and the bridge were studied and the measured results were validated according to the results of surface pressure measurements on the vehicle and the bridge. The measured results were further validated by comparing the measured results with values derived numerically. The measured results showed that the wind turbulence, the vehicle interference, and the vehicle position significantly affected the aerodynamic coefficients of vehicles. However, the influence of the wind speed on the aerodynamic coefficients of the studied vehicle is small. The static coefficients of the bridge were also significantly influenced by the presence of vehicles.
Automotive battery system consists of various components such as battery cells, mechanical structures, cooling system, and control system. Recently, various computational technologies are required to develop an automotive battery system. Physics-based cell modeling is used for designing a new battery cell by conducting optimization of material selection and composition in electrodes. Structural analysis plays an important role in designing a protective system of battery system from mechanical shock and vibration. Thermal modeling is used in development of thermal management system to maintain the temperature of battery cells in safe range. Finally, vehicle simulation is conducted to validate the performance of electric vehicle with the developed battery system.
