Recently, many automotive companies tend to apply an air quality system (AQS), which prevents polluted air such as smoke or dust by controlling air intake actuator of vehicle, to satisfy the consumer's need for agreeable in-vehicle environment. However, performance of the traditional AQS is not satisfactory because a polluted air may enter into the inside of vehicle through the breaks of windows. Especially, the commercial vehicles such as bus or truck need to be prevented polluted air from the breaks of vehicle. Hence, as an alternative to the traditional AQS, this paper presents the architecture of smart AQS for commercial vehicle and implementation of the smart AQS. Also, the performance of the suggested system is evaluated through an experimental testbed.

SD (Smart Door) is a human friendly power-assisted door system initially targeted for passenger car doors. The Smart Door offers comfort and safety to passengers or/and drivers by supplying additional power. Amount of power supplied by the Smart Door system is depend on the environment where the automotive is situated. It realizes comfort, for example, when the force applied by the passenger to the door is expected to be abnormal, the SD system tries to compensate passenger's effort by supplying additional force. In this study, to enhance the ease of opening and closing the doors of the passenger vehicle, a Smart Door with a power assist mechanism consisting of a motor was developed and analysed. A power assist mechanism mounted within the vehicle's door is designed and modeled for simulation purpose. The required force necessary to control the designed mechanism during the vehicle's roll, pitch and the opening angle of the door has been considered. To this end, we propose a power-assisting control strategy called "gravity cancellation". The system is analysed by numerical simulation with the gravity cancellation control algorithm.

Currently, registered number of imported vehicles is increasing rapidly over the years. Accordingly, environment improvements of vehicle maintenance company for maintenance of luxury vehicle such as imported vehicle are continuously being made. In this paper, we propose a key frame extraction method based on HSV color model for smart vehicle management system implementation to offer for customer reliability of maintenance vehicle. After automatically recognize the license plates of the vehicle using vehicle license plate recognition system when the vehicle come in the car center, we check the repair history and request of the vehicle based on it. We implement mobile services which provide extracted key frame images to the user after extract key frames from vehicle repair video. In addition, we verify the superiority of key frame extraction method by applying a smart vehicle management system. Finally, we convert the RGB color to HSV color to improve the performance of proposed key frame extraction scheme. As a result, we confirmed that our scheme is more excellence about 30% in terms of recall than RGB color model from the performance evaluations.

Modern roundabouts referred to as relatively safer and more efficient traffic facility than the signalized intersections have been recently deployed and operated and accordingly more research efforts to improve its safety and efficiency have been made so far. This paper introduces a new traffic information system named as Smart Roundabout coupled with Connected Vehicle technique like Vehicle-to-Roadside communication, which has not been attempted before and evaluates its performance with a microscopic simulation model, VISSIM. The proposed system functions to collect driving information of circulating vehicles in the roundabout such as location, speed, critical headway, etc. and help approaching vehicles decide whether to enter the roundabout with an on-board equipment instrumented in the individual vehicle on the basis of calculated gap acceptance of interest. This new system is expected to secure more safety and increase the capacity of the modern roundabout.

The smart air condition system is superior to conventional air condition system in the aspect of control accuracy, environmental preservation and it is foundation for intelligent vehicle such as electric vehicle, fuel cell vehicle. In this paper, failure analyses of smart air condition system will be performed and then sensor fusion technique will be proposed for fail safety of smart air condition system. A sensor fusion logic of air condition system by using CO sensor, $CO_2$ sensor and VOC, $NO_x$ sensor will be developed and simulated by fault injection simulation. The fusion technology of smart air condition system is generated in an experiment and a performance analysis is conducted with fusion algorithms. The proposed algorithm adds the error characteristic of each sensor as a conditional probability value, and ensures greater accuracy by performing the track fusion with the sensors with the most reliable performance.
In recent years, the increasing interest in health-care requires the industrial products to be well-designed ergonomically. In the commercial vehicle industry, several researchers have demonstrated the driver's posture has great effect on the orthopedic desease such as fatigue, back pain, scoliosis, and so on. However, the existing sensor systems developed for measuring the driver posture in real time have suffered from inaccuracy and low reliability issues. Here, we suggest our smart vehicle seat system capable of real-time driver posture monitoring by using the air bag sensor package with high sensitivity and reliability. The ergonomic numerical model which can evaluate a driver's posture has been developed on the basis of the human body segmentation method followed by simulation-based validation. Our experimental analysis of obtained pressure distribution of a vehicle seat under the different driver's postures revealed our smart vehicle system successfully achieved the driver's real-time posture data in great agreement with our numerical model.

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a powered aerial vehicle that does not carry a human operator, uses aerodynamic forces to provide vehicle lift, can fly autonomously or be piloted remotely, can be expendable or recoverable, and can carry a lethal or non-lethal payload. An UAV is very important weapon system and is currently being employed in many military missions (surveillance, reconnaissance, communication relay, targeting, strike, etc.) in the war. To accomplish UAV's missions, guarantee of survivability should be preceded. The main objective of this study is a local path planning to maximize survivability for UAV on the battlefield of dynamic threats (obstacles, surface-to-air missiles, radar etc.). A local path planning is capable of producing a new path in response to environmental changes. This study suggests a $Smart$$A^*$ (Smart A-star) algorithm for local path planning. The local path planned by $Smart$$A^*$ algorithm is compared with the results of existing algorithms ($A^*$$Replanner$, $D^*$) and evaluated performance of $Smart$$A^*$ algorithm. The result of suggested algorithm gives the better solutions when compared with existing algorithms.
Ubiquitous computing is a novel paradigm that is rapidly gaining in the scenario of wireless communications and telecommunications for realizing smart world. As rapid development of sensor technology, smart sensor system becomes more popular in automobile or vehicle. In this study, a new vehicle detection mechanism in real-time for blind spot area is proposed based on imaging sensors. To determine the position of other vehicles on the road is important for operation of driver assistance systems (DASs) to increase driving safety. As the result, blind spot detection of vehicles is addressed using an automobile detection algorithm for blind spots. The proposed vehicle verification utilizes the height and angle of a rear-looking vehicle mounted camera. Candidate vehicle information is extracted using adaptive shadow detection based on brightness values of an image of a vehicle area. The vehicle is verified using a training set with Haar-like features of candidate vehicles. Using these processes, moving vehicles can be detected in blind spots. The detection ratio of true vehicles was 91.1% in blind spots based on various experimental results.
