This paper describes a hybrid dynamic system(HDS) modeling method and result for the drivertrain of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(PHEV) which consists of a gasoline engine, an electric machine, and a continuous variable transmission (CVT) and proposes a drivetrain control system. The control system has an engine controller, a motor controller, a CVT controller and a supervisory controller for the coordination of all system. The controller keep the speed of engine wheel and the output torque within the optimal operation range based on the experimental data. We also developed a MATLAB/SIMULINK program for the performance simulation of PHEV drivetrain model and controllers and compared the simulation result with the experiment result in the recent literatures.
This paper proposes a boost/flux-weakening controller (BFWC) for wide speed operation range having engine and interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) for special equipment vehicle. The proposed BFWC exploits direct torque/flux control (DTFC) scheme based on space vector modulation method to control the constant DC voltage output within the entire speed operation range of engine. And, to improve the response characteristics of maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation and flux-weakening operation, the MTPA and flux-weakening feed-forward controllers are applied. To estimate feasibility and usefulness of the proposed controller, the simulation and experimental results are compared.
While driving, the low frequency interior noise below 200Hz causes the main component that irritates the auditory acoustic sense. But these passive control methods bring out increment in cost and weight of the vehicle and result in low efficiency. Recently, various ANC(Active Noise Control) methos to suppress the low frequency noise began to launch into application. In this study, we implemented the active noise control system for passenger vehicle to cancel the engine booming noise using DSP-based control unit, 4 micorphones, and 2 speakers. We used MEFX-LMS (Multiple Error Filtered X-Least Mean Square) algorithm since it can be easily implemented in real time. Also, MEFX-RLS algorithm was taken to enhance the suppression of the harmonic components of the engine booming noise inspite of its computational complexity. The performance of two adaptive algorithms were analyzed with experimental resutls.
A PAEM(Pneumatic Active Engine Mount) system has been developed to improve NVH performance of a SUV in idle state. Control objective to attenuate the vibration of a vehicle should be determined prior to the design of control algorithm. This study presents the correlation analysis of output variables of PAEM system by means of TPA(Transfer Path Analysis) using experimental data obtained by vehicle test. The analysis results show that the vibration of vertical direction is more serious than those of longitudinal and lateral direction of the vehicle, and that the correlation between the vibration of front seat rail and that of steer wheel is highest. In conclusion, the vibrations of front seat rail and steer wheel in vertical direction should be considered as the control objectives of the PAEM.
In this study, a test bed for vehicle longitudinal control is developed using a chassis dynamometer and real time 3-D graphics. The proposed test bed system consists of a chassis dynamometer on which test vehicle can run longitudinally, a video system that shows virtual driver view, and computers that control the test vehicle and realize the real time 3-D graphics. The purpose of the proposed system is to test vehicle longitudinal control and warning algorithms such as Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC), stop and go systems, and collision warning systems. For acceleration and deceleration situations which only need throttle movements, a vehicle longitudinal spacing control algorithm has been tested on the test bed. The spacing control algorithm has been designed based on sliding mode control and road grade estimation scheme which utilizes the vehicle engine torque map and gear shift information.
Modern vehicle has a lot of ECU(Electronic Control Unit) products to control many parts such as engine, transmission, brake, body and so on. ECU quality is one of important factors related to vehicle quality and driver's safety. Based on Bath-tub curve which presents failure rate during product lifetime, we designed and applied Accelerated Run-in Test into manufacturing line by simulating stress amount to ECU and developing the required software and efficient test equipment for mass production. This test makes ECU products stressed through electrical and thermal stresses under excessive driving condition, which induce potential initial failure of components in the ECU during production. The outcome until these days proved that Acceleration Run-in Test have reduced initial failure rates and increased quality of ECU products in the field outstandingly.
Advanced Vehicle Control Systems(AVCS) is one of the key elements in Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS). This paper considers the problem of longitudinal control in vehicle platoon on a straight lane of a highway. In a very simplified situation, longitudinal vehicle dynamics contains many nonlinear elements. The nonlinear characteristics are mainly composed of an engine, a torque converter, and a drag force. In this paper, sliding control, one of nonlinear control methods, is applied to longitudinal automated vehicle control for platooning. Output feedback linearization is also simulated for comparison with the sliding control. Simulations for comparative study for the adopted controllers such as sliding control and output feedback linearization are peformed under the same conditions. This Paper aims at clarifying the characteristics of sliding control and output feedback linearization.
This paper presents a novel design of a fuzzy control strategy (FCS) based on torque distribution for parallel hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). An empirical load-regulating vehicle operation strategy is developed on the basis of analysis of the components efficiency map data and the overall energy conversion efficiency. The aim of the strategy is to optimize the fuel economy and balance the battery state-of-charge (SOC), while satisfying the vehicle performance and drivability requirements. In order to accomplish this strategy, a fuzzy inference engine with a rule-base extracted from the empirical strategy is designed, which works as the kernel of a fuzzy torque distribution controller to determine the optimal distribution of the driver torque request between the engine and the motor. Simulation results reveal that compared with the conventional strategy which uses precise threshold parameters the proposed FCS improves fuel economy as well as maintains better battery SOC within its operation range.
Launch vehicle for injecting the satellite into its orbit is composed with propulsion system, guidance and navigation system, telemetry and so on. Among the others, the propulsion system is the most important part, because that is the key factor of failure of launch vehicle. Especially, the most of failures were occurred in time of engine startup. Therefore, the study of the conditions for stable engine startup is needed at the first step of development. The many researches were accomplished for mathematical modeling, stable startup engine and control of liquid propellant rocket engine. But the cavitation problem that can be occurred at an inlet of pump associated with propellant feeding system wasn't considered in these works. In this paper, propulsion system model was integrated with clustered engines and propellant feeding system for the simulations of engine startup. As the results of simulations, the requirements were deduced for the stable engine startup without the cavitation at an inlet of pump.
