The strategy presented in this paper is based on modifying the past patterens and adjusting the content of the driving patterns by a new algorithm. Learning happens during the driving procedure of a mobile vehicle. The purpose of this paper is to solve the problem how to realize the hardware neurocomputer by back propagation (BP) neural network learning on-line.

Eco-driving technique for electric vehicles (EVs) is investigated in this paper. Many findings on EVs have been reported; however, they did not deal with eco-driving from the viewpoint of theoretical study. The authors have developed an energy-saving driving technique - the so-called "eco-driving" technique based on dynamic programming (DP). Optimal speed profile of an EV, which minimizes the amount of total energy consumption, was determined under fixed origin and destination, running time, and track conditions. DP algorithm can deal with such complicated conditions and can also derive the optimal solution. Using the proposed method, simulations were run for some cases. In particular, the author ran simulations for the case of a gradient road with a traffic signal. The optimization model was solved with MATLAB.
The aim of this study was to evaluate driving performance of normal subjects for controlling the steering wheel by using foot operated steering devices in the driving simulator. Many people with complete bilateral loss or loss of use of upper limbs but with normal lower limbs are frequently left without use and/ or control of their hands, arms, or the upper extremities of their bodies. As a result, persons disabled in this manner have problems in operation an automobile because they cannot grasp and manipulate a conventional steering wheel. Therefore, if foot operated steering devices are used for controlling the vehicle on in people with disabilities, the disabled people could improve their community mobility by driving a car safely. Ten normal subjects were involved in this research to evaluate steering performance by using three types of steering devices(conventional steering wheel, pedal type foot steering, circular type foot steering) in driving simulator. STISim Drive 3 program was used for testing the driving performance in two road scenarios: straight road and curved road at low and high speed of vehicle (40 km/h and 80 km/h). This study used two-way ANOVA to compare the influences of two factors(type of foot steering device and road scenario) in the three dependent variables of steering performance(standard deviation of lateral position, the lateral position of vehicle and the number of line crossing). The average values of the three dependent variables(standard deviation of lateral position, lateral position and the number of line crossing) of driving performance were significantly smaller for conventional steering wheel or pedal type foot steering than circular type foot steering.
A military vehicle is driven at different usage modes with the army application and servicing conditions. For practical durability validation, DT(Development Test) on a new military vehicle should be run up to the durability target kilometers on test courses in the specified proving ground. Driving velocities with test courses at the endurance mode of DT are established definitely. However, OT(Operational Test) and initial endurance test of production car can't be performed only in the DT courses due to the development period limit. Therefore, this paper focuses on the method to analyze the relative road damages between the endurance test in DT and other endurance test. Road load acquisition tests on KLTV(Korean Light Tactical Vehicle) were implemented at 15 driving modes in off-road and cross-country courses of two tests. Wheel accelerations were processed through band-pass filter, and then the main frequency and maximum power of the signals were computed by PSD analysis. Finally, using the proving ground optimization based on RDS(Relative Damage Spectrum) characterization, the damage factors between off-roads of test courses were determined.
This paper presents design and control of a quarter-vehicle magneto-rheological (MR) suspension system for ECS (electronic control suspension). In order to achieve this goal, MR shock absorber is designed and manufactured based on the optimized damping force levels and mechanical dimensions required for a commercial mid-sized passenger vehicle. After experimentally evaluating dynamic characteristics of the manufactured MR shock absorber, the quarter-vehicle MR suspension system consisting of sprung mass, spring, tire and the MR shock absorber is constructed in order to investigate the ride comfort and driving stability. After deriving the equations of the motion for the proposed quarter-vehicle MR suspension system, the skyhook controller is then implemented for the realization of quarter-vehicle MR suspension system. In order to present control performance of MR shock absorber for ECS, ride comfort and driving stability characteristics such as vertical acceleration of sprung mass and tire deflection are experimentally evaluated under various road conditions and presented in both time and frequency domain.
Real-Time Traversability should be analyzed from the equiped sensors' data in real time for autonomous outdoor navigation. However, it is difficult to find out such traversability that considers the terrain roughness and the vehicle dynamics especially in case of skid type vehicle. The traversability based on real time dynamic analysis was proposed to solve such problem but in navigation with strait driving path. To adapt the method into the navigation with curved driving path, a path following controller should be incorporated into the dynamic model even though it cause the real time problem. In this paper, a dynamic model is proposed to solve the real time problem in the traversability analysis based on real time dynamic simualtion. The dynamic model contains the control dummy which is connected to the vehicle body with a universal joint to follow the curved path without controller. Simulation and experimental results on $6{\times}6$ articulated unmanned ground vehicle demonstrate the method's effectiveness and applicability into the traversability analysis on terrain with bumps.
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP), a system that improves vehicle safety, also known as YMC (Yaw Motion Controller) or VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control), is a system that operates in unstable or sudden driving and braking situations. Developing conditions such as unstable or sudden driving and braking situations in a vehicle are very dangerous unless you are an experienced professional driver. Additionally, many repetitive tests are required to collect reliable data, and there are many variables to consider such as changes in the weather, road surface, and tire condition. To overcome this problem, in this paper, hardware and control software such as the ESP controller, vehicle engine, ABS, and TCS module, composed of three control zones, are modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK, and the vehicle, climate, and road surface. Various environmental variables such as the driving course were modeled and studied for the real-time ESP real-time simulator that can be repeatedly tested under the same conditions.
A fuel injection system which is operated with a real vehicle driving simulation was developed as an alternative to a vehicle test for the fuel injectors. The sensor signals that are supplied to the ECU were measured and recorded as a data file for a vehicle driven in FTP-75 mode in a chassis dynamometer. The imperative sensor signals of the throttle position, vehicle speed, engine speed, crank position, cam position, intake air flow, and cooling water and intake air temperature were reconstructed using FPGA DAQ boards and a PXI computer. The scanning results showed good agreement with the input signals that were reconstructed. The ECU HILS system operated successfully to drive six fuel injectors, which injected fuel in the same pattern as if they were mounted in the vehicle driven in FTP-75 mode. Also, the fuel injection system developed in this research shows the possibility of application in evaluating the characteristics of fuel injection rate for injectors according to properties of injected fuel with the real driving mode of vehicles.
This paper presents the development of laser scanner based static obstacle detection algorithm for vehicle localization on lane lost section. On urban autonomous driving, vehicle localization is based on lane information, GPS and digital map is required to ensure. However, in actual urban roads, the lane data may not come in due to traffic jams, intersections, weather conditions, faint lanes and so on. For lane lost section, lane based localization is limited or impossible. The proposed algorithm is designed to determine the lane existence by using reliability of front vision data and can be utilized on lane lost section. For the localization, the laser scanner is used to distinguish the static object through estimation and fusion process based on the speed information on radar data. Then, the laser scanner data are clustered to determine if the object is a static obstacle such as a fence, pole, curb and traffic light. The road boundary is extracted and localization is performed to determine the location of the ego vehicle by comparing with digital map by detection algorithm. It is shown that the localization using the proposed algorithm can contribute effectively to safe autonomous driving.
This paper suggests an algorithm for detecting fault of longitudinal controller in autonomous vehicles. Guaranteeing safety in fault situation is essential because electronic devices in vehicle are dependent each other. Several methods like alarm to driver, ceding control to driver, and emergency stop are considered to cope with fault. This research investigates the fault monitoring process in fail-safe system, for controller which is responsible for accelerating and decelerating control in vehicle. Residual is computed using desired acceleration control command and actual acceleration, and detection of its abnormal increase leads to the decision that system has fault. Before computing residual for controller, health monitoring process of acceleration signal is performed using hardware and analytic redundancy. In fault monitoring process for controller, a process model which is fitted using driving data is considered to improve the performance. This algorithm is simulated via MATLAB tool to verify performance.
