The bi-modal tram guided by the magnetic guidance system has two car-bodies and three axles. Each axle of the vehicle has an independent suspension to lower the floor of the car and improve ride quality. The turning radius of the vehicle may increase as a consequence of the long wheel base. Therefore, the vehicle is equipped with the All-Wheel-Steering(AWS) system for safe driving on a curved road. Front and rear axles should be steered in opposite directions, which means a negative mode, to minimize the turning radius. On the other hand, they also should be steered in the same direction, which means a positive mode, for the stopping mode. Moreover, only the front axle is steered for stability of the vehicle upon high-speed driving. In summary, steering angles and directions of the each axle should be changed according to the driving environment and steering mode. This paper proposes an appropriate AWS control algorithm for stable driving of the bi-modal tram. Furthermore, a multi-body model of the vehicle is simulated to verify the suitability of the algorithm. This model can also analyze the different dynamic characteristics between 2WS and AWS.
In this paper a robust image processing method with modified Otsu algorithm to recognize the road lane for a real-time controlled autonomous vehicle is presented. The main objective of a proposed method is to drive an autonomous vehicle safely irrespective of road image qualities. For the steering of real-time controlled autonomous vehicle, a detection area is predefined by lane segment, with previously obtained frame data, and the edges are detected on the basis of a lane width. For stable as well as psudo-robust autonomous driving with "good", "shady" or even "bad" road profiles, the variable threshold with modified Otsu algorithm in the image histogram, is utilized to obtain a binary image from each frame. Also Hough transform is utilized to extract the lane segment. Whether the image is "good", "shady" or "bad", always robust and reliable edges are obtained from the algorithms applied in this paper in a real-time basis. For verifying the adaptability of the proposed algorithm, a miniature vehicle with a camera is constructed and tested with various road conditions. Also, various highway road images are analyzed with proposed algorithm to prove its usefulness.
This paper is concerned with experimental investigation of steering performance of a tracked vehicle on extremely soft soil. A tracked vehicle model with principal dimensions of 0.9 m(L)x0.75 m(B)x0.4 m(H) and weight of 167 kg was constructed with a pair of driving chain links, driven by two AC-servo motors. The tracks were configured with detachable grousers with variable span. A deep seabed was simulated by means of a bentonite-water mixture in a soil bin of 6.0 m(L)x3.7 m(B)x0.7 m(H). The turning radii of vehicle and driving torques of motors were measured with respect to experiment variables: steering ratio, driving speed, grouser chevron angle, grouser span, and grouser height. L8 orthogonal table is adopted for DOE (Design of experiment). The effects of experiment variables on steering performance are evaluated.
In the semi-autonomous vehicle, before reaching a fully autonomous driving stage, it is imperative for the system to issue a take-over request(TOR) that asks a driver to operate manually in a specific situation. The purpose of this study is to compare whether head-up display(HUD) is a better human-vehicle interaction than head-down display(HUD) in the event of TOR. Upon recognition of TOR in the experiment with a driving simulator, participants were prompted to switch over to manual driving after performing a secondart task, that is, playing a game, while in auto-driving mode. The results show that HUD is superior to HDD in 'ease of use' and 'satisfaction' although there is no significant difference in reaction time and subjective workload. Therefore, designing secondary tasks through HUD during autonomous driving situation improves the user experience of the TOR function. The implication of this study lies in the establishing an empirical case for setting up UX design guidelines for autonomous driving context.
In recent years, automated vehicles have garnered attention in the multidisciplinary research field, promising increased safety on the road and new opportunities for passengers. High-Definition (HD) maps have been in development for many years as they offer roadmaps with inch-perfect accuracy and high environmental fidelity, containing precise information about pedestrian crossings, traffic lights/signs, barriers, and more. Demonstrating autonomous driving requires verification of driving on actual roads, but this can be challenging, time-consuming, and costly. To overcome these obstacles, creating HD maps of real roads in a simulation and conducting virtual driving has become an alternative solution. However, existing HD maps using high-precision data are expensive and time-consuming to build, which limits their verification in various environments and on different roads. Thus, it is challenging to demonstrate autonomous driving on anything other than extremely limited roads and environments. In this paper, we propose a new and simple method for implementing HD maps that are more accessible for autonomous driving demonstrations. Our HD map combines the CARLA simulator and OpenStreetMap (OSM) data, which are both open-source, allowing for the creation of HD maps containing high-accuracy road information globally with minimal dependence. Our results show that our easily accessible HD map has an accuracy of 98.28% for longitudinal length on straight roads and 98.42% on curved roads. Moreover, the accuracy for the lateral direction for the road width represented 100% compared to the manual method reflected with the exact road data. The proposed method can contribute to the advancement of autonomous driving and enable its demonstration in diverse environments and on various roads.

Safety systems for road vehicles have been rapidly developed in recent years. Especially, the VDC(Vehicle dynamics Control) system is a new active safety system for road vehicles which controls its dynamic vehicle motion in emergency situations . In the case of configuring the VDC system by utilizing the ABS(Anti-lock Brake System), the role of a control logic which directly influences the vehicle motion is very important. In this study the performance of the VDC vehicle was compared to the performances of the CBS (Conventional Brake system )and ABS vehicle. For various driving conditions , the simulation of vehicle dynamics with known VDC control logics was performed. Analysis results showed the VDC vehicle could stably perform even on the road of low coefficient of friction. In addition it was shown that the basic control logic for the VDC system could outstandingly improve driving stability in the case of braking as well as constant speed cruising.

In this work, we analyze the relationship between the accumulated mileage of hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) and the data provided from vehicle parts. Data were collected while traveling over 70,000 Km in various paths. The data collected in seconds are aggregated for 10 minutes and characterized in terms of centrality, variability, normality, and so on. We examined whether the statistical properties of vehicle parts are different for each cumulative mileage interval of a hybrid car. When the cumulative mileage interval is categorized into =< 30,000, <= 50,000, and >50,000, the statistical properties are classified by the mileage interval as 82.3% accuracy. This indicates that if the data of the vehicle parts is collected by operating the hybrid vehicle for 10 minutes, the cumulative mileage interval of the vehicle can be estimated. This makes it possible to detect the abnormality of the vehicle part relative to the accumulated mileage. It can be used to detect abnormal aging of vehicle parts and to inform maintenance necessity.

Electric vehicles are taken a long time to charge and are restricted driving where charging infrastructure was not sufficiently constructed. The vehicle developed to solve these problems is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is possible to drive a certain distance by using electric motor and when the battery runs out, it operate the engine. Plug-in hybrid vehicle have a complicated structure and a lot of parts comparing a general vehicle because the electric parts and the internal combustion engine are installed together. Therefore, as the aging (mileage) of the plug-in hybrid vehicle, the influence which change of fuel consumption is expected to be larger than a general vehicle, but an experimental data are lacking. In this paper, we cumulate a mileage of the plug-in hybrid vehicle about 15,000 km and measured the fuel economy when the cumulated distance reached within 160 km, 6,500 km, 15,000 km respectively, by using domestic public test method. For measuring fuel economy of the vehicle, CD mode (driving distance on a single charge) which use only motor and the CS mode which operate motor and combustion engine were measured respectively. As a result, the fuel economy slightly increased at cumulated mileage of 6,500 km compared to the 160 km and the fuel economy of 15,000 km was similar to 160 km.

Necessities of a traffic means work a car in the modern society human to an usability of a life is enjoying. On the other hand, the damage by traffic accident increment the human quotient worked as we were in proportion to the vehicle which increased. Passing an examination moves necessarily on an obstacle to suddenly appear at the fronts if a car travels and the vehicles which stopped suddenly. Dynamic passing an examination about an obstacle turn on Vehicle Emergency Lamp to by hand when is unhurried, and can turn off, but to appear urgently dynamic passing an examination in time human is instinctive, but cannot inform an emergency to a back vehicle, and a rear-end collision occurs. A car we synthesize a speed of a vehicle, and this unit analyzes as we use GPS, and to drive runs Vehicle Emergency Lamp to automatic in the situations that shall turn on emergencies etc. If a speed of a vehicle continuously slows down in too high-speed driving or low-speed driving, or we are stopped, Vehicle Emergency Lamp is always turned on. It was built if we rise again as clearing itself from risk, and a speed of a vehicle judges, and we turn off Vehicle Emergency Lamp to automatic. It runs till rear-end collision sensor operates, and by hand reset does Vehicle Emergency Lamp a driving vehicle collides from behind to a back vehicle or when a driving vehicle was overthrown. It is shortened very much to the chain rear-end collision traffic accident that is a traffic accident of large size if we use this unit. And we did authentication through the experiment which a driver was helpful to unnecessary operation and a relaxed safe driving during drivings.
$A^*$ algorithm is a global path generation algorithm, and typically create a path using only the distance information. Therefore along the path, a moving vehicle is usually not be considered by driving characteristics. Deceleration at the corner is one of the driving characteristics of the vehicle. In this paper, considering this characteristic, a new evaluation function based path algorithm is proposed to decrease the number of driving path corner, in order to reduce the driving cost, such as driving time, fuel consumption and so on. Also the potential field method is applied for driving of UGV, which is robust against static and dynamic obstacle environment during following the generated path of the mobile robot under. The driving time and path following test was occurred by experiments based on a pseudo UGV, mobile robot in downscaled UGV's maximum and driving speed in corner. The experiment results were confirmed that the driving time by the proposed algorithm was decreased comparing with the results from $A^*$ algorithm.
