수소충전소용 프리쿨러를 위한 수소가스 냉각에 관한 연구 (Study on Cooling of Hydrogen Gas for the Pre-Cooler in the Hydrogen Refueling Station)

  • In the hydrogen refueling station (HRS), it is need the pre-cooling system (PCS) to limit the inside temperature ($85^{\circ}C$) of the onboard thank (700 bar) and to charge the hydrogen at short time (within 3 minutes) to fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). From those safety reasons, the temperature of hydrogen gas must be controled $-33^{\circ}C$ to $-40^{\circ}C$ in PCS. The cooling test of the gaseous ($N_2$, He, $H_2$) was carried out using heat exchanger (pre-cooler) by indirect cooling and direct cooling method. It was confirmed that the temperature of hydrogen gas had below $-40^{\circ}C$ at below $-75^{\circ}C$ of chiller temperature in direct cooling.

OPTIMIZATION ON VEHICLE FUEL CONSUMPTION IN A HIGWAY BUS USING VEHICLE SIMULATION

  • This paper presents a numerical approach to optimizing vehicle fuel economy in a higway bus. The method described is based on using a commercial software vehicle simulation to identify the relative efficiency of each of the vehicle systems, such as the engine hardware, engine software calibration, transmission, cooling system and ancillary drives. The simulation-based approach offers a detailed understanding of which vehicle systems are underperforming and by how much the vehicle fuel economy can be improved if those systems are brought up to best-in-class performance. In this way, the optimum vehicle fuel economy can be provided to the vehicle customer. A further benefit is that the simulation requires only a minimum number of vehicle testing for initial validation, with all subsequent field test cycles performed in software, thereby reducing development time and cost for the manufacturer.

  • Automotive battery system consists of various components such as battery cells, mechanical structures, cooling system, and control system. Recently, various computational technologies are required to develop an automotive battery system. Physics-based cell modeling is used for designing a new battery cell by conducting optimization of material selection and composition in electrodes. Structural analysis plays an important role in designing a protective system of battery system from mechanical shock and vibration. Thermal modeling is used in development of thermal management system to maintain the temperature of battery cells in safe range. Finally, vehicle simulation is conducted to validate the performance of electric vehicle with the developed battery system.

An Experimental Study on Improved Fuel Economy and Lower Exhaust Emissions of New Automotive Engine adopting Split Cooling System

  • This paper presents a split cooling system for a new inline 4-cylinder automotive engine. The split cooling system circulates coolant to the cylinder head and cylinder block separately. The coolant flow in the cylinder block is controlled by a $2^{nd}$ Thermostat installed at the outlet of cylinder block. The $2^{nd}$ thermostat closes when the coolant temperature is low. And this makes the coolant flow in cylinder block nearly stagnant, thereby reducing the coolant-side heat transfer coefficient and raising cylinder bore temperature. The $2^{nd}$ thermostat starts to open when the coolant temperature reaches a specified temperature. The test results on engine dynamometer show improved fuel economy and lower exhaust emission which result from the decrease in friction works and cooling loss. Also, several vehicle tests, with application of the new engine have been performed. Fuel economy improvement of 0.5{\sim}2.0%$ yields from different test modes and details are discussed in this paper.

  • 케로신과 액체 산소를 추진제로 하며, 10톤을 설계 추력으로 하는 우주 발사체의 2단용 액 체로켓엔진의 재생 냉각 특성 에 대한 해석적 연구를 수행하였다. 또한 보조적인 냉각 방법으로서 노즐 확장부에는 대기로의 복사 방열에 의한 냉각을 적용하였다. 본 연구를 통해, 케로신을 연료로 하는 10톤 추력의 2단용 액체로켓 엔진에서 재생 냉각과 복사 냉각에 의한 냉각 기구만으로는 냉각 방법으로 적합하지는 않다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 새로운 냉각 방법으로서 막냉각 기법이 도입되었으며, 액체로켓엔진의 열적 불안정성을 제거하는데 효과적인 냉각방법임을 알 수 있었다.

  • A lot of conventional automotive components driven by mechanical power source are being replated with electrical ones to comply with the demands of market and customer, therefore the amount of electric energy used in a vehicle will be increased continuously. The increment of electric power demand causes interest on new higher power system such as 42V Power Net, and furthermore necessity for development of energy storage device is highlighted recently. This paper presents the design of the BLDC motor drive for Cooling Fan in 42V automotive system. Test results confirmed the feasibility of the proposed motor drive system design.

2.3 kW급 전기자동차 배터리팩용 냉각 장치의 열전달 특성에 관한 해석적 연구 (Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer Characteristics of Cooling System for 2.3 kW EV Battery Pack)

  • The improvement in the battery performance and life using a battery thermal management system directly affects the improvement in the performance, life, and energy efficiency of electric vehicles. Therefore, this study numerically analyzed the heat exchange processes between the coolant inside the cooling plate channel and the heat generated by the battery. The cooling performance was analyzed based on the average temperature, temperature uniformity, and the maximum and minimum temperature differences of the battery. A performance difference existed depending on the coolant inlet temperature but showed the same tendency of cooling performance according to the shape of each plate's channel. Type 1 showed the best results in terms of battery temperature uniformity, which is the most important measure of battery performance; Type 2 showed the best results in terms of the average temperature of the battery; and Type 3 showed the best results in terms of the maximum and minimum temperature differences of the battery compared with that of the other cooling plates.

  • 극초음속 비행체용 능동냉각시스템의 전체적인 운용 성능을 결정하는 주요 요소는 크게 탄화수소흡열연료, 재생냉각 채널, 시스템 소재 및 구조로 구분되며, 그 중에서도 효율적인 재생냉각시스템 개발을 위한 일련의 연구는 탄화수소 항공유의 흡열반응 성능 향상으로부터 시작된다. 따라서 이전 연구에서는 탄화수소 항공유 자체의 흡열분해 특성에 대한 광범위한 연구 동향을 정리하였으며, 본 연구에서는 그에 대한 후속 연구로서 효과적인 흡열분해 특성 개선 및 성능 향상 방안으로 다양하게 시도되고 있는 촉매 분해와 수증기 개질 연구들에 대한 세부기술 분석을 수행하였다.

EV 상용차용 히트펌프 시스템 냉방 운전 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Performance Characteristics of Heat Pump System on Cooling Mode for Light-duty Commercial Electric Vehicles)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 EV 경상용차에 적용되는 히트펌프 시스템에 대한 냉방 성능 특성을 실험적으로 분석하는 것이다. EV 경상용차가 운전되는 냉방 운전조건인 외기온도 35 ℃, 내기온도 25 ℃ 상황에서, 히트펌프 시스템의 냉방 특성을 분석하고자, 냉각수의 온도조건, 전동식 압축기 회전수 조건 변화에 대해서, 실험을 진행하였고, 그 결과를 분석하였다. 전동식 압축기 회전수가 증가할수록 냉방 성능이 평균 8.0 %가 증가하였고, 전동식 압축기 소비전력은 27 %가 증가하여서, 시스템 효율은 16.4 %가 감소하는 결과를 보여주고 있다. 전자장비 냉각을 위한 냉각수의 폐열을 활용하기 위하여서, 냉매랑 냉각수가 열교환 하는 칠러를 본 시스템에 적용하였다. 칠러에 적용되는 냉각수의 온도를 35 ℃에서 55℃로 변화시켰을 때, 응축 열원의 증가로 인하여서, 시스템 효율이 평균적으로 18.2 %가 떨어지는 결과를 보여주고 있다. 냉각수 유량 변화 측면에서, 운전 조건을 변화시켰지만, 냉방 성능에는 큰 변화를 보이고 있지 않았다. 향후, 냉각수 폐열을 사용하여서, 히트펌프 시스템에 대한 난방 성능 향상을 위한 연구가 필요한 상황에서, 관련 연구에 추가 할 예정이다.
