  • This paper applies dynamic versions of shift share models to a simple regional employment model. It tests for the existence of a long run interregional employment equilibrium and then estimates the impulse response functions for each employment series to determine which shocks are temporary and which are permanent.

  • In this talk, I will discuss roles of pseudo vector and scalar potential in changing physical properties of graphene systems. First, graphene under small uniaxial strain is shown to be described by the generalized Weyl's Hamiltonian with inclusion of pseudo vector and scalar potential simultaneously [1]. Thus, strained graphene is predicted to exhibit velocity anisotropy as well as work function enhancement without any gap. Second, if homogeneous strains with different strengths are applied to each layer of bilayer graphene, transverse electric fields across the two layers can be generated without any external electronic sources, thereby opening an energy gap [2]. This phenomenon is made possible by generation of inequivalent pseudo scalar potentials in the two graphene layers. Third, when very tiny lateral interlayer shift occurs in bilayer graphene, the Fermi surfaces of the system are shown to undergo Lifshitz transition [3]. We will show that this unexpected hypersensitive electronic topological transition is caused by a unique interplay between the effective non-Abelian vector potential generated by sliding motions and Berry's phases associated with massless Dirac electrons.

  • Dragon Stream Cipher is proposed for software base implementation in the eSTREAM project. Now this stream cipher is selected as a phase 3 focus candidate. Dragon is a new stream cipher contructed using a single word based NIFSR(non-linear feed back shift register) and 128/256 key/IV(Initialization Vector). Dragon is the keystream generator that produce 64bits of keystream. In this paper, we present an implementation of Drag(m stream cipher algorithm in hardware. Finally, the implementation is on Altera FPGA device, EP3C35F672I and the timing simulation is done on Altera's Quartus II. A result of 111MHz maximum clock rate and 7.1Gbps is throughput is obtained from the implementation.

  • This paper shows the implementation and design of special processor for linearly shift knapsack public key cryptography system. We highten the density of existing knapsack vector and shift the vectors linearly in order to implement the structure of linearly shift knapsack system which has the stronger cryptosystem. As it needs the parallel processing at each path according to the characteristics of this system. we propose the pipelined parallel structure and implement this system into VLSL. Also we evaluate this system and compare with other systems. The processing speed of this system is 550kb/s when dimension is 100. It is possible to use this system at the place of requiring high speed security to enlarge the structure of it.

  • In this paper, the wavelet video coding using Low-Band-Shift(LBS) method and multiresolution motion estimation(MRME) is proposed. To overcome shift- variant property on wavelet coefficients, the LBS was proposed. LBS method previously has superior performance in terms of rate-distortion characteristic. However, this method needs more memory and computational complexity. Therefore to reduce computational complexity of video coding using LBS, we combine MRME with LBS. When mm is applied only, it has 7 times as much as existing method's motion vector because each subband has different motion vector using property of LBS, number of motion vector decreases. Proposed method decreases motion vector, and it decreases motion compensated Prediction error by detailed motion estimation. And then it shows better coding performance. Also this method reduces computational amount by smaller search area in higher resolution. The computational complexity of the proposed method is 12.1% of that of existing method at 3-level wavelet transform. The experimental results with the proposed method show about 0.2∼9.7% improvement of MAD performance in case of lossless coding, and 0.1∼2.0㏈ improvement of PSNR performance at 4he same bit rate in case of lossy coding.

  • The NMR shift arising from the electron angular momentum and the electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum interaction has been examined for a $3d_1$ system in a strong octahedral crystal field when the threefold axis is chosen as the quantization axis. To investigate the NMR shift in this situation, first, we have extended the evaluation of the hyperfine integrals to any pairs of 3d orbitals adopting a general method which is applicable to a general vector R, pointing in arbitrary direction in space. Secondly, a general expression using a nonmultipole technique is derived for the NMR shift resulting from the electron angular momentum and the electron spin dipolar-nuclear spin angular momentum interactions. From this expression all the multipolar terms are determined. ${\Delta}B/B$ for the $3d_1$ system in this case is compared with that for the 3d1 system when the z axis is chosen as the quantization axis. When we choose the threefold axis as the quantization axis, it is found that along the , and axes, ${\Delta}B/B$ values are significantly different from each other and along the , <-1-1-1>, <-11-1>, , <-1-11>, , and <-111> axes, ${\Delta}B/B$ values are however the same. We also find that the 1/R7 term contributes dominantly to the NMR shift for all values of R. When 1/$R^5$ term is included, there is good agreement between the exact solution and the multipolar terms when $R\; {\leqslant}\;0.35\;nm.$.

  • Moving objects in video data are main elements for video analysis and retrieval. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for tracking and segmenting moving objects in color image sequences that include complex camera motion such as zoom, pan and rotating. The Proposed algorithm is based on the Mean-shift color segmentation and stochastic region matching method. For segmenting moving objects, each sequence is divided into a set of similar color regions using Mean-shift color segmentation algorithm. Each segmented region is matched to the corresponding region in the subsequent frame. The motion vector of each matched region is then estimated and these motion vectors are summed to estimate global motion. Once motion vectors are estimated for all frame of video sequences, independently moving regions can be segmented by comparing their trajectories with that of global motion. Finally, segmented regions are merged into the independently moving object by comparing the similarities of trajectories, positions and emerging period. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of segmenting independently moving objects in the video sequences including complex camera motion.

  • A free sparse transmission method using X-band standard gain horn antenna is applied to measure the attenuation and phase shift of microwave signal through the wetted grain such as rough rice, brown rice and barley. The moisture content of grain varied from 11 to 25% based on its wetted condition. The dielectric constant and loss factor, which depend on the moisture content of the wetted grain are obtained from the measured attenuation and phase shift by vector network analyzer. The measured values of dielectric constants as a function of moisture density are compared with values of those obtained using the predicted model for estimating dielectric constants of grain.

  • *In this paper, we propose a real-time face tracking system using an adaptive face detector and a tracking algorithm. An image is divided into the regions of background and face candidate by a real-time updated skin color identifying system in order to accurately detect facial features. The facial characteristics are extracted using the five types of simple Haar-like features. The extracted features are reinterpreted by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and the interpreted principal components are processed by Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies into facial and non-facial areas. The movement of the face is traced by Kalman filter and Mean shift, which use the static information of the detected faces and the differences between previous and current frames. The proposed system identifies the initial skin color and updates it through a real-time color detecting system. A similar background color can be removed by updating the skin color. Also, the performance increases up to 20% when the background color is reduced in comparison to extracting features from the entire region. The increased detection rate and speed are acquired by the usage of Kalman filter and Mean shift.
